At the request of LEGO's lawyers, all the 2016 images we posted yesterday have been removed.

Sorry!

Too late, already looked!
:-)

By in United States,

So if my site is not affiliated with LEGO must they be removed?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I understand why they need to remove images for licensed products, but what's the secrecy for things like City or Creator?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Pre production versions maybe ?

Gravatar
By in United States,

LEGO sure does get butthurt about leaked images. I'm pretty sure the target audience doesn't see or care about leaks, anyway.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What's the idea behind it all? Most downloaded the sets they were interested in anyway! LEGO likes to make a big deal of it. Why have professionally done photos that can be had if one knows where to go to find them? BUT I am EXTREMELY PROUD of you HUW for doing right by BRICKSET! (y)

Gravatar
By in United States,

But my brain still has the images :0

For those wondering what the harm is in leaked images, the answer is simple - keep your plans out of competitors' hands. TLG don't want the likes of M*** B**** etc seeing what they've got up their sleeves next year, as that gives those companies more time to come up with similar products in the hope of wrestling some sales away from Lego.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Well I have all the pictures saved in my iPad. So I really dont care, lol.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This happens so often, it almost seems as if the leaks are intentional in order to create buzz.

No worries, just grabbed some copies from my cache.

So after a year where multiple sets were recalled because of quality control issues (and yesterday, I bought only my second ever set with a piece missing) ... one of which is still ongoing, going by the Brickset article on WALL*E ...

... but no, it's photos posted early of products that they'll be releasing in a month anyway, *that's* what Lego gets upset about and takes definitive, firm action on.

Right.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^^2016 is only a month away? Uh oh.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Given a lot of the Star Wars sets had minifigs standing on discs i would say they were pre-production images for testing with Disney etc. hence the request to remove.
If i was LEGO i would be looking at my IT system and release if these images are so easy to obtain.

By in United States,

You should've told the LEGO lawyers that there wasn't much worth seeing to begin with....

Gravatar
By in United States,

^

Got 'em

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Absolutely right about the images falling into competitors or counterfeiters hands. Apple is anal over their products leaking before launch.

Gravatar

"0 likes" hahaha

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hah.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I understand the need to keep these things a secret, but it sure is a pain. Oh well, I figured this would happen and saved the pics of sets I want!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I see no point in removing the images if they've been online for a while and everyone's seen them. The damage has been done, so pulling down the pictures accomplishes nothing. What LEGO should do is be more careful about leaking new sets.

I wonder how long until TLG has a breach in their IT, considering how inept their security appears to be. This might be a good reminder to ensure that you aren't sharing passwords with any site associated with LEGO ID.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Honestly one, October is technically the overpasses timeline for 2016's to come things in not just LEGO but other things. Two, I rather go ahead and know what is to come cause that way I can plan next years sets I want to get, especially the Speed Champions. Believe it or not that series made a quick and huge impact in sales this year. Plus I need to plan cause I have been working on a self-made Speedway with a Town next to it. So I do need to know as much information as possible lol. At least I know how many cars are coming next year and really thrilled to see some of those that did show too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not the sets you're looking for, move along

Gravatar
By in United States,

The job of the Fun Police is never done.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Right... because, obviously, there's no way to drum up publicity like leaking pictures and then taking them down, 2-3 months before release.

Maybe I should stop using my LEGO ID if their security and Fun Police are this bad...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Next they'll be telling you to take pee out of the pool...

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Dear Lego please support Brickset they are promoting your products and we love to buy them.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Such an overly dramatic comments section. You can't blame LEGO for not wanting some really small/blurry, possibly unfinished product shots out there. Be glad you got an early peek, it'll hold you over until the sets are properly announced (the January 2016 sets tend to come out mid-December, right? So in a month or so we'll have hi-res images of many of these sets).

Secondly, no one "hacked" LEGO to get these images. Your (or LEGO's) security are not at risk here. These images tend to follow a particular naming pattern (mainly based on set number), so if you know how and where to look, you can basically keep checking for known upcoming set numbers. That's at least how it used to be, and how I assume it still is. The images are simply not listed (but accessible if you can figure out the URL), it's got nothing to do with security or hacking.

@topdog: Good luck trying to make lawyers use common sense.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Unless I'm missing a lot from the low resolution images, that Carbon Freezing Chamber looks ridiculously poor. Does Lego expect us to buy 4 to make a complete platform?

Gravatar
By in United States,

^^^You could just mind control them, somehow, a youtuber wanted a car to crash to get a passing amount on Forza 6, and it worked!

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's alright; LEGO is finally letting us have an overlap window for two days (starting in about 5 minutes) where we can get both double points and a bonus set. Plus I'm not forgetting they're throwing a bone to American muscle with the Corvette / Mustang / Camaro sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

At least this time I got to see all the pics before they went down. I hate when pics disapeer moments before I find out there was a leek.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Here is another possible reason is cracking down on leaks. If you see the sets a couple months before they come out, you can take your time to decide which ones you will get. If you don't see ANYTHING, then you're more likely to dive headfirst into the shelves, throw your hard-earned money away, and sell your soul to LEGO cause they just swindled you out of your money when you were so overwhelmed.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yea, be in an uproar about your photo leaks but turn the other way when it comes to fake knockoffs on eBay. Give me a break.

The whole "so competition doesn't see them" holds no ground either. When megabloks make a decent City line, let me know.

Again, go after sites for leaked images or go after sellers with fake knockoffs?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Maybe TLG leak this pictures on purpose to gauge peoples views and opinions, I know for one my views on pretty much all the SW sets were quite poor and felt they lacked detail, were underwhelming, and looked rushed. Maybe the sets are pre production versions and now Lego may rework them after public opinion, I know this is unlikely but really hope its true, Hoth and Carbonite sets were both very poor, but imagine are still going to be around the £50 mark time the SW tax is added.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

The images have been shared on the likes of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc. Can't wait to see how the "LEGO Lawyers" get those removed! :D

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The parallel (and somewhat strange) universe of consumer product releases is not quite what many of you think it is.

There's a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes, and anything that reduces the carefully planned impact of the actual announcement day is a bad thing for those who wish to make that impact.

Yes, it's about money. It's why any business exists.

But some of you may recall previous leaks from Lego, I certainly do. And I remember the complaining that took place when people compared the final products to the prototypes that they'd seen prematurely. That was definitely a bad thing.

I'd hate to see that again.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I received contact from Day Pitney LLP just before I went to bed last night.

It's unusual for lawyers to get involved except in extreme cases, usually the community team asks nicely and we oblige.

Fan sites have an unwritten agreement with LEGO never to use watermarked images but anything else is fair game unless there are 'business critical' reasons for them not to be distributed e.g. if they are damaging to LEGO's relationship with Disney.

I am told that there are so many new people in LEGO's marketing teams that often policies for dealing with fan sites are not known or followed so newbies tend to shoot first, ask questions later.

It could be that it was one particular image, or set of them, that triggered the response. Perhaps Cosmic Boy?

Anyway, water under the bridge now. Most of us have seen them, let's move on. If you missed them you'll still find them on LEGO's server if you know where to look.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Huw: Calling it now, that lone Ep VII set was probably what triggered this.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

LEGO Lawyers - that's a theme we haven't seen - perhaps a Modular Courthouse?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Typical you take one not checking the front page on the site and you miss all the images! Argh! Oh well I'm sure LEGO didn't want me to see it anyway till it was buying time.... :(

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Meanwhile, all the people away from their computers for the last couple of days are punching the air in frustration ...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yeah that B-Wing thing could have been the trigger, we can all recall the ridiculous secrecy for the other TFA stuff up until Force Friday, so I could imagine that B-Wing also being under wraps.

At least the modular bank gets to stay posted! :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I Got 2 look at all of 'em!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Forgot to download them. I'll go and take a peek on the server, and see if I can find them. :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

It was nice to get a sneak peek, while it lasted, but I'm glad you did the right thing and took them down out of respect for TLC. I'll look forward to the official release of at least one of those sets!

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ I'll second that. Glad I saw them, but glad you removed them at the company's request.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Another reason could be that they just don't want kids to see these new sets and decide they want them more than the current sets and then ask for money for Festivus so they can buy them when they (eventually) come out next year. TLG would obviously want to maximise sales in the next two months and this could put a small dent in them (very small, but its a tough corporate world out there).

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think it's the "all publicity is good publicity" mindset which the newbies in the marketing department (maybe) have which causes these leaks. Or maybe just LEGO's employees fearing for their jobs. IDK.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Countries anywhere but the UK will probably get to actually buy said Lego sets off the shelves within November, if previous years are anything to go buy. In terms of the Star Wars leak though, i didn't really think the set from TFA gave away anything plot-related. But maybe that's only because I saw it once and didn't save it.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Found them all. MWUHAHAHAHA!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I will just keep these...Nobody will make me delete them. Heck I've shared these all over Twitter!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

That's lucky of you to get a request to remove the photos from the lawyers. I just got a copyright strike against my videos on my YouTube channel, my videos deleted and now the lawyers are just contacting me.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That's probably because it's easier for them to get YouTube to remove them through an established procedure than chase you down.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Having seen the pictures earlier, Lego will now attempt to wipe my mind of said images....

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Yes unfortunately that is the easiest way for them. Although all is well now, the lawyers were very pleasant to deal with and they retracted their claims on condition that I would not re-post the images. Thanks for the response.

Gravatar
By in Gibraltar,

Its all just clever marketing to stir up the fans (as if we needed stirring)
I personally can wait until they are on the shelves or the selected few review them on their sites as always.... yawn yawn

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I already saved the images. Muhahahaha!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I haven't found any of the images on the server, and I didn't save them either. One lesson learned. Save the photos of new sets ASAP. :\

Gravatar
By in United States,

Darn I missed the pictures. :( :( :(

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I found the pictures on Youtube, lucky me! But no picture of the Ambulance Plane, which was the only one I really wanted to see. I think I'll be getting the race boat and the fire truck that looks like a better designed 4208.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

- Don't tell nobody, but I saved the Speed Champions set pics! SSSSHHH! ;)

PS. I already figured out the build of the Mustang.... Only the stickers are missing now haha

;)
