New version of LDD released
Posted by Huw,
Just months after the doom and gloom announcement from LEGO that LEGO Digital Designer would no longer be supported or updated, a new release has been made available today, complete with a swathe of new parts.
Version 4.3.9 can be downloaded from LDD.LEGO.com and if you are curious to see what parts have been added, see this PDF document produced by the team at LCC from data extracted by superkalle.
Thanks to Sophie for the news.

YAY! Thanks Lego!
Anyone know if new designs, especially for minifig heads and torsos, have been added?
Not so dead after all!
Thank you for compiling a list of parts... I found 295-ish, Superkalle found 318... I couldn't figure out what I was missing. :P
This update is fantastic. However, a lot of parts are still absent: most of the Bionicle Reboot parts, minidolls (!!!), Elves hairpieces and dragon heads, Speed Champions hubcaps, all of the Star Wars constraction pieces, that flower hair decoration from Friends, and the Nexo Knights visors. But there is certainly enough to build most new sets, I've already made like 4... and they even included the Dimensions toy tags! What a pleasant surprise!
Is this the official "final update"?
Best news i have had all year!
HAPPY!
@PicnicBasketSam I'm quite sure that the Speed Champions' hubcaps are included along with their new windscreen piece.
This update comes at a fantastic time as many people have been eargerly waiting to design their own Speed Champions cars. It's possible that there might even be a competition for that on Brickset! :)
@PicnicBasketSam Did you check the LDD Extended part list or just the normal list?
The list that LEGO Collectors club made was in fact copied from a list I posted at the Digital Design forum at Eurobricks a few hours ago. They have since kindly updated their post.
As for extracting brickinfo from the LDD database, I would advice against it since it's against the EULA. There is some 3rd party software that do use the LDD brickset data (like LDD2PovRay), but they are doing it either with the approval of TLG or being very careful not to expose the brick and geometry data.
There's a text file that handles the translations from LDD to LDRAW and other import / export operations. It contains part numbers and rotation data. It's always had awkward errors and omissions that make parts disappear, overlap or turn the wrong way round. We had to patch it loads of times while working on LEGO Universe models and I've got fed up of submitting corrections to LEGO only to have the same errors appear in the next release.
Huw, hopefully someone figure out how to extract part names and numbers as well as images; as we're seeing more and more incomplete inventories on newer sets (Lego Replacement parts). Not sure if this is related to the news of LEGO Digital Designer. I've noticed numerous printed parts and even parts in new colours are missing from the inventories. Use 21304 as a reference.
Shame that the update didn't fix the issue on Mac where the "outline on bricks" option is unavailable =/
Too bad. It requires osx 10.10 so I can't use this.
Yaaaay, now I can update all of the things I've been tinkering with over the last few months.
Attention Mac users:
Apparently the outline problem HAS been fixed, but you have to remove the settings file. There's a post on the Eurobricks forums (in the LDD section) detailing how to do it, so go check that out.
@Huw: maybe LDD Manager could be of use: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=41993
Not sure though.
For me the update fixed the problem with the Mac version not showing brick outlines. I didn't have to do anything additional, just went into the preferences and adjusted the settings. Really, really grateful for that!
Bit disappointed that the update doesn't include the 2015/2016 Bionicle heads or masks, and still doesn't include mini-doll parts. However, it does have a lot of other very useful parts that I'm happy to see added!
@Superkalle, thanks for the clarification, I've changed this post too.
@people trying to help me: If you know where to find the Speed Champions hubcaps, be my guest. I couldn't find them in the program or the list, and I can't find an actual part number for them. The rest of those parts aren't there.
This announcement made my day, and I read it first thing in the morning!
^ Same here, now i have to sit through a day of work before i get to go home and use it
Awesome! Thank you Huw for reporting this great news!
Now to update all my prior models. :P
Yaaayyy... now I can actually finish my "sencimilla street skytrain station" on LDD. The set is about 98% complete irl. LDD says it's 823 pieces. Best news I read all day.
Awsome news and a lot of new parts I've been after for a while. I won't get a chance to use it untill tomorrow, but can't wait to fix up quite a few models with this.
What's this PLATE W/ HALF BOW INV. 1X2X2/3, and more importantly, where can I get one? There's so little info around on this piece.
@magmafrost So far I think it's only been spotted in Elves sets, but it will be in both Elves and Ninjago sets in the summer, and possibly in others as well.
i_i I waited for the new version to download only for it to say it couldn't access the web server. Good chance it's just my computer but has anyone else had this issue?
So LDD support is not over? Or this is a final update?
this is one of the biggest parts dump i've seen yet i think.
The turntable has finally been split into two pieces! Nipple studs, 2x2 round tile with centered holed stud... This is the best day EVER!
Thank you, LEGO. I was having a rough day. This made my day!
interesting that they add rancor hands and fingers but no rancor ....... cooming soon i guess
i was exploring the update and found out they fixed silver!!!! it more shiny and more easy to tell apart from grey by adding what seems pink and brown.
I'm enthusiastic about the new parts, but at least one of my models is now inexplicably invisible.
Great News! =D
And i don't believe that any further elaboration is needed.
Wait a second, didn't they say that they'd update from time to time but drop site support? I thought that only meant no more LDD contests or anything like that. I'm sure Lego sees the immense fanbase behind LDD and won't 'completely' ditch it. Hell, it makes a great 3D modelling tool for Lego 3D animations.
That put a smile on my face, I was really hoping for the Speed Champions wheel arches.
Time to download.
YES they have all my fave new parts time to make some cool things :)
how do I get the new update
@Huw - Thanks :-)
This is awesome, so many new parts, glad its not gone yet.
LOL did Lego trolled LDD users or what..?
Wow. That's a hell of a heel-face-turn. Does anyone know if this is a one-off update, or are they actually continuing support for the program?
All in Bright Red?! I know many of MOCs are lacking a bright red skunk.
@ Maxximus: You can recolor the bricks
Yay! The Servo and large motor is in there :D Was tired of using the brick built one.
I've downloaded the update twice and the new parts don't show up. Anyone else having this problem?
Very happy. All the new pieces are in it too. So all those Speed Champions Cars I make of my own will be alot easier to design lol You can if you know to alter the pieces and colors. Like the Audi R8's structure can very easily be altered with the same instructions into a Renault RS Sport or a BMW i8. ;)
Best thing there: Original Classic Space Torso yay :D
Oh no, it won't work with the Mac OS 10.6.8. That means I've got to upgrade OS, which means that loads of my other packages will also need upgrading. :-(
@mike_fifer have you looked in the 'extended' theme? Should be there
Will these new parts work with LDD to POV-Ray?
LLD to POV-Ray has not been working with this new LDD update. I receive the error message "part ID '16709' is not supported by the current brickset version" every time I try to render. This piece is not a new piece, and is not even in my render. Anyone having a similar problem?
