Geoffrey & Friends

The news on upcoming releases continues today with more information on a special promotional set!

Earlier this year, we discovered that there would be a new set related to Geoffrey the Giraffe. Well, via the German Toys R Us website, the official name of the set is now known to be 40228 Geoffrey & Friends. Images and a product description also accompany the listing which you can see hilariously translated to English after the break.

The set contains 133 pieces, is priced at 10€ and, similar to 40225 Rio 2016 Mascots, uses Mixels ball joints for the titular Geoffrey; the store chain's giraffe mascot. Here however, the grey color of them seems to be less of a distraction for some reason. Also included are two child minifigures who I assume want to be Toys R Us kids. I can't decide whether the model is cute or creepy... both? What do you think?

Hooray, hooray, Geoffrey is finally here! All fans of ToysRUs have waited a long time and now the time has come at last to be played with the cute mascot. The two minifigures are good friends of the Giraffe and experience best shared with her the most fantastic adventures. This special edition of LEGO is only available at ToysRUs and holds many fun hours of play ready. Combine Geoffrey with other LEGO playsets (sold separately) and expand your game worlds.

By in United Kingdom,

I can never unsee this. Why did they have to pose him hugging the children?

Gravatar
By in United States,

It doesn't look bad, except for the face.
The face is absolutely awful.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Geoffrey looks too much like a middle aged man, but it will be the reason I get the set

Gravatar
By in Australia,

For some reason, the first thing I thought of when I saw this was a gabbleduck.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Just.....wow......

Gravatar
By in Australia,

... wow, that's creepy.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Showed my partner who said, "I think it's Ed Miliband!" He does have Ed's eyes and slightly alarmed expression...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

This is the stuff of nightmares.

Gravatar
By in United States,

God, that's creepy. Also, LEGO? MAKE BALL JOINTS IN DIFFERENT COLORS ALREADY.

Can't stop laughing.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Nightmare fuel.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ugh. This set gives me the creeps. It intrinsically carries a distinct undertone of the horror genre...

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Probably try and get one if I can locally!

Gravatar
By in United States,

all i'm seeing here is an adult male in a Geoffrey the Giraffe costume and i have no idea what his intentions are with those kids.......

but with that said, i can't wait to get a hold of a copy for my collection!!!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Uh, wow. Did Chucky possess a fat giraffe plush..?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Haha this is worth a buy just for the creep-factor.

Jeeves, fire up the Bricklink engine! We're going shopping!

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Looks like the first brick built giraffe (that I know has been released on an official set) needs a bit of work on the torso and the face. A good collectible item be had for sure.

By in Slovakia,

1am build and quick picture
http://i.imgur.com/u1EAF8c.jpg

- It is relatively big but thin thanks to the long thin body parts (unlike the more bulky animal seasonals )
- Due to the off center attachment of legs and the attached tiles/plates limiting the movement of joints it is quite hard to balance.
- While building the head, it's even more spooky without some parts attached

Somehow, while building it, I got urge to build a Lumpy in similar style http://happytreefriends.wikia.com/wiki/Lumpy
It looks like something from Aardman Animations reject bin...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am infinitely relieved to see I was not the only one to find this disturbing...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Some people see a nightmare of a giraffe kidnapping children and some people see the creepiest thing since Barney the dinosaur. I just see a badly built giraffe with a bad dental plan :P

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hugging the children or not, this thing is hilariously creepy. I have no words.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm gonna have nightmares about this set O_o

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Poor Geoffrey looks drunk on the back of the box. Are the kids pointing the way home for him after an afternoon at the boozer or getting to ready to catch him if he falls over?

Gravatar
By in United States,

These comments are too much. X'D

Gravatar
By in Australia,

@HandyCap ... he does look drunk, there, doesn't he? It totally looks like the kids are helping him home after an all-nighter.

This is the best set ever. Two children abducted by a drunken giraffe. I mean, what other toy system can give you that kind of play value?

Gravatar
By in United States,

GEOFFREY SMASH!!!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Shudders.

If only those stars had been printed.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Sometimes, as an adult, you still sometimes question things you know to be true. For example, today I had to Google images of giraffes just to verify to myself what a giraffe actually looked like, because after witnessing this monstrosity I actually questioned myself whether I really knew what a giraffe looked like.

Alas, my previous knowledge and belief I held was correct. What I now must question, do Lego designers actually know what a giraffe looks like? Because it isn't like this...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This is just wrong. For starters, the head shape is an awful version of the mascot. It's as if some old guy has made his own Geoffrey costume at home to get the kids to come to him!

And while we're raising questions, the torso chosen for the little girl is printed with what might be considered an inappropriate body shape for a child.

But, you know, maybe we're seeing this all wrong. Maybe the Mother of the boy is of restricted growth, and the Father - desperately working a second job as a mascot - has just taken a few brief moments off to be with the family. Shame on you all for your judgemental attitudes!

;-)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I have never heard of this character before. Weird.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can I just point out that TLG has already shown they know exactly how Geoffrey actually should look in LEGO:

http://brickset.com/sets/40077-1/Geoffrey

Which makes this set seem even more like it intentionally represents, by contrast, a creep wearing a bad homemade Geoffrey suit!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

is this part of the new Horror theme? it's the sinister giraffe drug fuelled nightmare set I've been waiting for...

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Horrifying, as all good mascots should be. I approve.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Good grief, what were they thinking? Poor kids... XD

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I concur that the previous Geoffrey set was better than this (even if it was just the neck and head). I actually found one (previous Geoffrey) in a Toys R Us totally randomly and just had to buy it but I have zero interest in this new one...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Did anyone else notice that the description says "the time has finally come to be played with the giraffe"
YOU DONT PLAY WITH THE CREEPY GIRAFFE
THE CREEPY GIRAFFE PLAYS WITH YOU

Gravatar
By in United States,

This set needs to include a white, windowless van.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^ LOL!

TRU's reputational risk managers are in a world of trouble! How long before someone posts somewhere online a MOC/photoshopped parody of the front box art that's even less appropriate?

@Aidypie, the description in the article is badly translated from German. It's probably fine in the original and will be OK when it's professionally translated for English-speaking countries.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Go home Giraffe; You're Drunk.

Gravatar
By in United States,

is it just me or does it look like a guitar

Gravatar
By in United States,

A scary giraffe hugging children, sponsored by TRU, and I agree that it looks like a middle aged man. What has been seen and made cannot be unseen and unmade. Something also tells me that its head is a little large...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Everybody is a critic! I'm sorry but I think it is adorable and will probably get a bunch of copies just for the female MF...it's my favorite torso!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I think it's cute. Geoffrey looks more dopey than creepy here, but I think that just adds to his charm. He is kind of off-model, though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Set number 666 - Demon Giraffe possesses small kids

Gravatar
By in United States,

These comments are hilarious.

It's really too bad the designer made such odd decisions with the face, because this could've been a really cute set, like the past LEGO giraffes. Making the face so narrow was unwise. But really, the giraffe could've passable if the designer had at least not included that dreadful unibrow. A silly, buck-toothed face would've been fine. But give it a big, thick brow and now it has another personality entirely.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Picked one up on the weekend. Geoffrey looks a lot like a yellow Polka-Roo to me. (From an old kids show in Canada called "The Polka Dot Door")

Gravatar
By in United States,

The set itself isn't that bad, just kinda meh. Those pictures on the box, though... o_o

I think the last one is bad because of the position of the legs, they're not meant to stand, or do much else.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

"Come play with me," said the giraffe.

And the children were never seen again.

The end!

Gravatar
By in United States,

XD at the commentary here.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Ok. Why is he holding guns? :<

Gravatar
By in United States,

This looks very creepy.
That's why I'm going to get 12 of these.
And holy moly I'm loving this comment section XD

Gravatar
By in United States,

Its the newest Five Nights at Freddy's character in Lego!!! On a more serious note this set looks
disgusting. :P

Gravatar
By in United States,
