10255 Assembly Square: new parts galore
Posted by Huw,
You might have noticed some of the exciting new parts that can be found in 10255 Assembly Square in the set images.
In the designer video Jamie shows them all. There is enough to give Tim 'New Elementary' Johnson heart palpitations...
So, what do we have...
- 2x2 corner tiles with a cut corner in four colours. These are used to good effect for attractive tile patterns on the pavement outside the buildings.
- 2x2 and 4x4 'macaroni' tiles. You can see these on the tops of the three building levels.
- 1x1 quarter circle tiles. I think these appeared in some sets as pizza or pie slices this year but now we have plain black and tan variants.
- 1x1 brick with studs on two adjacent faces. This will be a 'game changer' for SNOT building techniques, I predict.
- Door frame, 45 degrees. No longer will we have to mess about with hinges to mount doors in building corners
There are also some re-colours and cool printed parts including a 2x3 (yes, 2x3...) tile with Cafe Corner box design, which is a great homage to the first in the series.
Which of these are you most excited about? What uses can you see for them?

All of them!! The tiles, and FINALLY the 1x1 corner brick!
wow. some real game changers for sure. that 1x1 brick w/ 2 studs is long overdue. The tiles are all welcome detailing additions as well
Amazing!
Great! The 1x1 with studs on adjacent faces is long over due. I was surprised it didn't already exist.
Some very welcome additions!
Those macaroni tiles look awesome!
Is the Café Corner tile supposed to represent the set's box?
Those 4x4 macaroni tiles will be a huge improvement to the Grand Emporium's rounded corner and provide some new options for how to do those windows. Awesome new parts!
@Chouju_X[SPAM] Yes, that's how Modular Building boxes looked before LEGO introduced the Creator Expert theme. You can still see it on the Pet Shop, and I believe the since-retired Town Hall used the same packaging as well.
There is also a unprinted white 2x3 tile in the rudder of the Yellow Submarine. Excited!
What about the transparent plate all the parts are attached too, now that is special.
Transparent 16x16 plate is from an old Mosaic set.

So many goodies!
@myscrnnm: Nice, I'll definitely bricklink that piece for a display sometime.
Sorta missed the tan palm tree fork part as the legs on the cafe table outside: http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=2566T=C
Only included in 10253 Big Ben before. Rare enough for those of us who won't be getting that set...
I do love the "Prevent Yellowing" on the printed window!!!
I've been waiting for curved tiles for a long time. Now if only they could make curved plates...
That's quite an impressive selection! I was NOT expecting some of those would ever happen.
Definitely the corner snot brick and the macaroni tiles. The 45 degree door is a bit too specific for my liking.
The corner windows will be in next Police station ;)
The 2x3 tile (printed or otherwise) is new right?
Neat, I was just being annoyed by the lack of curved tiles a few days ago
^^ New this year. There are some black ones in the Caterham.
I have been waiting for years for the 1x1 corner brick!!!! Every time i try to build a MOC or any LEGO model i am always needing a piece like that. The other pieces are absolutley fantastic too! Can't wait for this set i LOVE the modulars!
Would love some of those 2x2 corner tiles.
Man I love seeing new space parts. All of those look amazing!
About time they made corner SNOT bricks.
Did not think we would ever see macaroni tiles. They look awesome.
Magnificent selection! I really like the mirror as well.
awesome new parts, they are going to be very useful! but stil no glass piece for "Window Frame 1X2X2 2/3
0"
@MATT89190 Glass piece for arched window: http://steindrucker.com/zubehoer/window-1-x-2-x-2-2_3-with-rounded-top.php
I'm pleased to see the corner brick, now I won't have to cut the studs off two sides on the four sided one.
Interestingly, there's another new piece that Jamie didn't highlight in the video—a 2x1 45° slope with a 1x1 tile in the place of the "brick". It's used on the cash register in the music room and on the sink in the dentist's office.
@Lyichir I looked for about 30 minutes and found none of this sort. I found something that looks like it in the dentists office, but it is actually just multiple pieces put together. Also there is no such cash register in the music room. Not trying to be rude or anything just clarifying what you saw.
@MBJosh04, I was skeptical at first myself, but I think @Lyichir might be right! The cash register is on the same level as the dentist office, opposite building. In each case, there appears to be a pair of parts that match Lyichir's description. They are similar to 2x1 curved slopes, but appear to be 45 degrees and not curved.
I highlighted some of my favorite creative parts usage in this set - See photo on instagram @ https://www.instagram.com/p/BLshYU1Aji2/
What were your favorite hidden details using creative LEGO elements?
SNOT building will never be the same again.
Was little 1x1 flat piece with rounded corners on one side, as seen in white on the top of the train in this image http://images.brickset.com/sets/AdditionalImages/10255-1/10255_Back_08.jpg , and on the top of the facade of the dance-studio on this image http://images.brickset.com/sets/AdditionalImages/10255-1/10255_Back_03.jpg in light grey already in a set before?
@eMjee83 That piece is the tooth piece from Mixels. I think it is new in the grey tho
@Starkthunder: Not quite new in grey either, because it's used in that color on this year's Volkswagen Beetle.
Thanks guys; as I am currently (happily) limiting myself to Modulars, Technic as well as Duplo (for my son) I didnt know the piece yet.
