Hot on the heels of the BMW bike reveal this morning we now have images of the other first-half-of-2017 Technic sets, courtesy of Swiss toy shop BabyJoe.ch.

That concludes today's uploads. Thanks again to Jan C for alerting us to them.

Cool sets!! But where are the Star Wars sets for 2017?!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

So this year is 40 years of Technic?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I believe Technic, Nexo, Friends, and Disney are all being released on Nov 27 or at least in December, which is why these are up early

By in Ireland,

Some of those look absolutely terrible. It's as if they're trying to render city style vehicles with technic parts... Bizarre!

By in United Kingdom,

Dissapointing. Waiting to see the air jet

By in United States,

I like how the Searching Ship looks like a larger, "Technicfied" version of the Creator Ocean Explorer. The BMW is still my favorite from this wave so far.

By in United States,

Rc tracked racer and ocean explorer are the only ones that interest me whatsoever.

By in Denmark,

@ Padraig since more and more technic pieces and building technics are used in regular Lego (Lego system) it is not that bizarre. I think many people will like this move and it will boost the sales. Some will buy technic vehicles. Guessing the Ship and container transporter will be a hit and could easily be put in a Lego City.

^Seems to be a Technic-ized version of 60095, like that creator set (31045). In fact, this almost could be a bigger version of the latter: Other than heli in this set, both are a sub being hauled in by a boat. Both being mostly white and dark blue, with a little red in the front, and a yellow sub.

By in Ireland,

2016 was one of the best years ever for Technic. Looks like 2017 is going to compensate that with utter disappointment.
42057 Microlight helicopter is cute and reminds me of Little Nelly.
42058 Stunt Bike reminds me of those four pull-back bikes in 2003. Only they all looked better than this.
42059 Stunt Truck. Like the bike this has no functions other than a pull-back motor.
42060 & 42062 Technic Junior again seem to have limited functionality.
42063 BMW Motorbike is disappointingly sparse and is just as disappointing as 42036.
42064 Ocean Explorer looks good but I doubt it has any functions beyond the crane and the mini helicopter.
42065 RC Tracked Racer could be fun to play with if it performs well with M-motors but won't be much of a challenge to build. Looks like it won't have any gears.
When Technic was introduced it was "Engineering like in real life". There is no engineering in any of these models. Apart from the BMW there are no gear trains, no intricate lever mechanisms. They're models made from Technic parts that have no more functions than Model Team or Creator.

By in Ireland,

@Duq. Precisely. These models aren't going to satisfy either market. They lack the functionality and clever engineering for technic fans; while a better aesthetic would be achieved with brick built models. It's an extremely awkward hybrid and just plain odd. I'm kinda stunned at the direction they've taken.

The helicopter in the ship set looks pretty similar to the one in 31043, a set which is suggested to be paired with 31045. It's as if they took the pairing and made a Technic set of it, sans the truck.

42064, 42064, 42064, 42064, 42064, 42064, 42064, 42064, YES!!!!!!!!!!

Waiting for a new Train myself--hopefully a nice steam loco!

By in New Zealand,

Nothing inspiring me in that lot, all look too basic.

Gravatar
By in United States,

City-scale sets and pull-back motor sets are kinda lame, helicopter looks weird... however, the boat, the motorcycle, and the tracked racer are really cool, I think. Especially the boat. Daaaang.

By in Canada,

I bought a whole whack of Technic sets last year, and the year before that. 2017, so far, not a single one.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm a huge technic fan but feel a bit disappointed with this offering. I just hope they are saving the best for the August release of technic sets like the last few years. I'm expecting something big and spectacular to celebrate 40 years of technic.

By in United Kingdom,

That ocean explorer is a must!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The ship will have me buying my first Technic set in a long time. It's like an adult (ok older kid) version of 60095 which I always liked the look of but the build didn't inspire me enough to purchase as it was designed for younger children to be able to build.

By in United States,

This might be the year I bow out from collecting Technic. No interest in these playsets whatsoever.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Yay.. Boaty McBoatface.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

This is welcome news for my wallet. I feel no desire whatsoever to purchase any of these lacklustre offerings. And I still have a backlog of great 2016 Technic sets to build.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

I am anticipating that there will be some modern builds based on the original 1977 Technical sets to celebrate the 40 years of Technic to be released later in the year. The presence of the 40 year logo on all the boxes strengthens my suspicion.

I love the Container Yard and Ocean Explorer. I may even be able to MOC the ship into becoming a container ship. I don't recognize the red bulbous bow part on the ship.

By in United Kingdom,

I love the ship but can't argue with Duq re: the functionality. I wonder if the drift towards panelling is part of it - the older, more skeletal structures let you see the mechanism, so it was a built-in part of the appeal. When you hide the mechanism, it becomes less of a marketing priority, then less of a design priority, perhaps. And yet, I'd heard good things about this year's models. It's hard to fathom their intentions with these.

By in Germany,

I really like that Ocean Explorer. Looks like something fresh, especially for a Technic set. Will see about the others, but that one is a must buy for me so far.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

I can see the 42065 Remote Controlled Tracked Racer being a whole lot of fun.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I like the Ocean Explorer and will wait for a review to see if it will be a purchase or not.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Underwhelming to say the least. I don't see the point in Ocean Explorer at all. I do like the BMW, but the other models are all typical of smaller scale Technic sets. Hoping for some more inspiring sets in the second half of the year, especially considering it's the 40th anniversary.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Do we know if the Stunt Truck and the Stunt Bike have a combination build like all of the previous sets of pull back Technic vehicles?

Gravatar
By in France,

I agree with the consensus that the sets so far look uninspiring. I'll wait in hope though, they might have some cool stuff in there.

@catwrangler - hopefully, they'll be following more along the lines of the Claas Tractor 42051 - whilst it's panelled in and cosmetically very attractive, there's a wealth of clever engineering hidden away in there. Several neat reversing gearboxes and some great lever mechanisms. I was initially sceptical but picked it up for £80 and couldn't have been more surprised and pleased, it's a great set. I don't think the mechanisms will ever not be a design priority as long as Lego have geniuses like Kossmann on board overseeing things.

By in Canada,

Here is what I would like to see for late 2017 as these early sets are somewhat underwhelming - That said I might get the plane if the reviews are reasonable. Here goes: Set 40851 a forklift, mostly yellow with the new longer pneumatic and chains for the lifting machanism - somewhat of a cross between 8416 and 8843. Set 40852 a tractor mostly red with pneumatic plug for the attachments like 8110 . This set would have to come with a few different attachments. Set 40852 an helicopter with full collective and cyclic and also the collective for the back rotor - maybe reintroducing the flex system!!! Three blades would be a bonus! Set 40853 a car chassis with all what we are now expecting in a car - engine with cams (double overhead maybe!). Maybe front wheel drive with homocentric joints and macpherson strut. I am already preparing myself to be massively disappointed...
