10194 Emerald Night IS real!
Posted by Huw,As this image used for the trains theme on http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/ shows. It's not listed as a product yet in the trains section but they're not exactly going to use a picture of a hoax set, are they! (thanks jkw96).
If you still see a picture of an old train, press Ctrl-F5 in your browser to refresh the page.
Update: LEGO ambassador Anthony Sava has posted some official information, and links to more pictures over on Lugnet:
#10194 – Emerald Night, Ages 14+, 1,085 pieces, Pricing: US$99.99, CA $129.99, UK £68.50, DE €89.99
The images clearly show the old-style train windows in tan and that the loco is dark green. I can't wait!
Another update: It's now listed on LEGOShop.com and will ship on April 15th.

had to refresh the browser, cause i saw the old train :)
I see it and I want it.
i have heard that the new trains will be coming out about october. also mindstorms......
What are you talking about? I still see the old train....
That's good news! Now I wonder... RC, 9v, or "push along"?
Well, looks like we finally have a new train!
This Train looks absolutely Amazing...going to have to see if Lego sends this South Africa's Way (Probably Not... so will have to import it). Hopefully not too many new parts so that the colour can be changed to Black, Blue, Red ect
Going to be very Broke in 2009 thats for sure.
It's only true if you have "UK" selected as your country... "US" page still has the old green RC train picture.
I can still see the picture of the old train set anyway, after pressing ctrl F5 three times (not in a row). Oh well, I have already seen the amazing train set.
OH WAIT ( 3 minutes later ) it's back! Wow, there it is!!!
I really like this set... the conductor looks weird though
It's now officially Official !

Thanks bluemoose, I've just updated the news article.... I hadn't noticed you'd posted that here.
The article also says "The 10194 will first be unveiled simultaneously at Brickfest PDX in Portland,
Oregon and Wunderwelt Modellbau in St. Pölten, Austria on March 27 & 28, 2009."
That's a good price for UK and one I'd have no problem paying to get 3 or 4 of them :-)
nifty
Not being a train guy.. is 8 studs wide a different scale?
That's a good price...
This is a DEFINITE MUST GET for me. I love LEGO trains, and I've been dying for a train of this style for some time.
...Ooohhh, just saw the more detailed pictures at lugnet. *drooooooool* I can NOT wait!
Does it move or do I have to push it?
Once again LEGO is being cheap with minifigures, the set should have at least 1-2 more.
Nice set but only 3 minifigs!!
That's an amazing UK price... I had it pegged for double that.
It can now be pre-ordered on LEGO.com for 99.99USD and will ship on April 15th, far sooner than I expected. However, there was no mention of power-function compatibility(although I'm sure anyone willing to take the time to design it could fairly easily), so I'm not sure that this is the long anticipated PF Train. This should be good news if it is, as that would mean that the best has yet to come. Hope this helps!

EDIT: In the related products area there are several PF products, hinting at compatibility.
The product page is up, but it is not possible to pre-order it yet.
Hmmm.... I've been looking at the box and the picture on LegoShop.com, and the train on the shop is at a different angle than on the box... weird. But it does look really cool. Too bad it's not a Power Functions Model.
Great! I need to buy this one. And, guys and gals, do you really think lego would put rubber rings around the wheels for grip if it didn't have a motor you could attach? I mean, who wants a model train with no motor?
~Imperial13
Beautiful set and I will order it however, Only 3 minifigs is weak for a set like that.
I'm doubtful about the motor...but still...wow cool!
Sorry about false pre-ordering info : ( I am still doubtful about the PF motor, as those were scheduled for this summer, but the train is awesome regardless.
If you read the info on Lugnet, it says that there are some details about this set that have not been released yet, details which will be released late March.
Power functions or not, it's still one of the hottest LEGO trains I've ever seen.
I hope they do more steam engines like this. There are so many oppurtunities.
The Orient Express
The NYC 20th century limited
The UP Big Boy (Man that would be a HUGE set)!!
Pensy K-4
The British High Speed Mallard...
Ahh so many trains.
However, none of these are very likely.
I can hope though...
I'm not a train person, but it looks awesome!
They didn't say anything about tracks. What train set dosn't have tracks? Needless to say the set is awesome and I will be getting it. BTW has anyone noticed LEGO's putting out alot of $100 and up sets this year?
As shown, and without a motor, the $99 price is in line with other sets around the same piece count. It would not be unprecedented to include instructions to motorize it and sell the power kit separately. Far from it actually.
Since I'll just be setting it on a shelf anyway, I'd rather not pay for a motor I'll never use. In fact, I hope those red bands aren't attached because it will look better on display without them.
Hmm... AU $150 - not too bad at all.
WAIT A MINUTE! Is it just me, or are the wheels spread out too widely to fit on the regular tracks? I'm also wondering how I'm gonna fit a moter in there... Maybe I'll just have it displayed or not buy it.
There are lots of examples of recent trains that didn't contain a motor -
10183 - Hobby Train
10173 - Holiday Train
10133 - BNSF
10020 - Santa Fe Super Chief
IIRC, all had instructions for optionally fitting a 9 volt motor, but didn't include one in the set.
Note they were all 10xxx series sets too. It wouldn't surprise me if the new set includes instructions for fitting PF and/or 9v motors.

Not a train person, but it's beautiful !
Maybe this will convince me to become a train person....
:-)
To those that keep posting links to photos on other sites, they are the same 8 photos that are linked from Huw's post at the top. This is the original source of of those images -
http://news.lugnet.com/announce/?n=3916
These are the real images. All other images are just imitators ... :-)
Happy surfing !
Ian
Not having a motor and it looks like no tracks...bummer...I guess I'd pass. I thought it might be a reasonable price finally for decent train...no such luck. I also agree figure count is very low for this set...compare this to 7897-1 and I'm going with more modern design, power functions, tracks, wireless control, and the same number of figs......all for $10 less US. Thanks for the no need to wait heads up Lego!
@ Topsy Cret, if you look at the middle large driving wheel it is not flanged, this should help it run. I imagine that we will learn about this being motorised shortly. However if you look at related products on lego LEGO.com there is an xl motor and reciever listed.
It's not motorized.
The price 100$ is quite in line with the number of pieces 1000, so about 10c/piece.
Motor and control would have certainly cost at least an additional 20$.
But most importantly, it would certainly be mentioned in the product description if it was motorized. Unless they are revealing it only later as soon as it's pre-orderable, but I doubt it.
Personally I strongly support the LEGO policy of not motorizing trains sold online (the 10xxx sets). There are too many people who still like the 9V system, some even the 12V system, current kids have RC and next we'll have PF. It's better for everyone to separate train sets from engines, so that each LEGO fan can apply his favourite engine system without spending money for a motor type they don't like. They should apply the same policy to trains sold in shops (if any LEGO train will ever be sold in shops again, which I doubt).
Awesome! With the new power functions lights, you should be able to illuminate both the top and bottom head light.
Will this train fit the regular track with those new wheels?
Very nice locomotive, it is now at Lego shop on-line as a product and will be available as of the 15th of April!!
It will fit normal tracks since the middle big wheel has no rim!! So no problem to make the tight turn.
On Lego shop on-line, a PF motor is mentioned as a "related" product, but I think I'll buy it and install a 9V motor under the tender. Worked like a charm with the Holiday Train (which also is un-powered). Lego also made an instruction for that.
cheers,
Tom
what does means "With piston-powered wheels"?
I've been thinking of getting a Lego Train recently and am glad this is coming out, especially as the prices of old Lego trains (or even recent releases) are so ridiculously prohibitive.
Ummmmm..... are those stickers I see?
too expensive.
