2014 Star Wars polybags
Posted by Huw,
It looks as if it'll be a slow news week this week so I'll have to make some up...
LEGO is set to produce (at least) three Star Wars polybags in 2014. Instructions and inventories have been published by LEGO Customer Services and two of them have started to appear in shops.
Anakin's Jedi Interceptor
30244 Anakin's Jedi Interceptor has a spelling mistake on the bag. Interceptor has been spelt with er at the end which explains why I didn't initially find the other two interceptors in the database when I searched for the word. There has also been three Jedi Starfighters that are the fundamentally the same design. Perhaps someone can explain why they have different names.
Anyway, this model is an update of 2005's 6966 Mini Jedi Starfighter and pretty much identical except for the colour scheme and a few new pieces on the wings and an improved back-end.
It has been found in boxes of polybags in stores in Norway (Nille) and Denmark (Netto) and also Sweden I believe.
ARC-170 Starfighter
30247 ARC-170 Starfighter is the second mini scale model of this craft to be released, the first being 2005's 6967. There has also been a couple of minifig-scale ones, the most recent being released in 2010.
It's a very well executed model and I particularly like the dark red minifig heads used for engine intakes. It's vastly superior to the 2005 version.
I don't think this one has been found 'in the wild' yet (there are none listed on BrickLink) but I'm sure it'll turn up somewhere sooner or later: a store exclusive in the USA and a newspaper promotion in the UK, I suspect.
Imperial Shuttle
30246 Imperial Shuttle is the fifth Imperial Shuttle LEGO has made and the third mini-scale one, following 2004's 4494 and 2010's 20016 Brickmaster exclusive that wasn't available outside of North America.
All three are, of course, similar, but with differences in the way the wings are hinged. This is the smallest of the three but is still a good rendition of the craft.
This polybag has turned up in Meijer stores in the USA, for $3.99 I believe.
Before anyone asks, the transparent stand is not part of the set...
So, three great sets for Star Wars fans and polybag collectors alike. Buy them if you can...
Many thanks to the LEGO CEE team for sending them for review.

Lego has released the ARC fighter in this scale before and like the Interceptor looks like there is minimal change: http://brickset.com/sets/6967-1
I want that Imperial Shuttle...
Something makes me doubt we'll see it anywhere here in Tassie though...
Hi Huw,
6967 from 2005 was the first mini model scale for the SW starship ARC-170 Starfighter. This "would be" second one.
Ther is a Mini ARC-170 from 2005 same as that Yellow Jedi Starfighter. 6967 ARC Fighter
Thanks all, not sure how I missed that one, I'll update the text.
Nice polys. They are also in Finland. I jumped to the 6966 to see how it looked and there is a 3D view. Very nice :) The IS is my favourite of the 3.
The Arc Figther seems to have a couple of dark red heads, cool.
Alas, no Meijers even close to where I live. Anybody that lives near a Meijer want to pick up and send me a a few of the 30246 Imperial shuttle polys? Please? =)
Let the fun of trying to find them begin. I hate that some sets are only for certain stores/countries.
The quality of these polybags makes me wonder even more, why the planet series was canceled. especially since i think it has a different audience than the micro fighters.
Any idea when the next UK newspaper promotion will take place? Other than the Pyjamas Emmet one, it's been a while...
Hey Huw, this should clear up the whole Jedi Starfighter/Interceptor mix-up:
The "Delta-7/Delta-7B Aethersprite-class light interceptor" was the primary starfighter used by the Jedi during EPII and the first part of TCW TV series.
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Delta-7_Aethersprite-class_light_interceptor
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Delta-7B_Aethersprite-class_light_interceptor
TLG has produced several different versions of both varioations of the design:
http://brickset.com/sets/7143-1/Jedi-Starfighter
http://brickset.com/sets/9498-1/Saesee-Tiin-s-Jedi-Starfighter
The "Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor" took over from the Delta-7 as the Jedi's main personal starfighter in the later seasons of TCW and in EPIII.
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Eta-2
TLG have also produced numerous versions of the Eta-2 over the years:
http://brickset.com/sets/7256-1/Jedi-Starfighter-and-Vulture-Droid
http://brickset.com/sets/9494-1/Anakin-s-Jedi-Interceptor
As for the naming, it seems that the Eta-2 (the second design) is more often referred to as a "Jedi Interceptor" and the Delta-7 a "Jedi Starfighter". However, seeing as TLG only recently began referring to them as "Interceptors" and "Starfighters" respectively combined with the fact that both designs can be considered "Interceptors" and "Starfighters" at the same time, it's only natural to be confused.
^ Thanks, it's now as clear as mud :-)
Thanks for the excellent pictures Huw!
Usually polybag "remakes" are better because of new pieces and/or colours that are useful for micro building, but IMHO I think the oldest shuttle (from 04) is still the best.
I love seeing the LEGO Group redo so many prequel vehicles that they haven't touched in years. Episode III was about when I started to lose interest in LEGO Star Wars (and Star Wars in general, to a lesser extent). At the same time, the vehicle designs continued to be top-notch. Now that the LEGO Group's design standards have improved as well, it's fantastic to see what they've been able to achieve with re-releases of earlier sets. Even at a reduced scale!
Many times, especially since a subsequent minifigure design change (the introduction of white sparkles to the characters' eyes), I've been very nearly tempted to begin collecting LEGO Star Wars again, but I remind myself that it would be too much of a strain on my budget on top of in-house themes like Ninjago and Hero Factory, not to mention that I would never have what I can consider a "complete" collection. The Star Wars universe is so deep and distinctive that there will always be some significant character, vehicle, or creature that my collection is missing, even if I were to collect the sets religiously. We just finally got Queen Amidala from Episode I a couple years ago, but fifteen years in there is still no minifigure of Boss Nass!
I try to MOC Star Wars creations occasionally on LDD. Mostly podracers, since I love podracers and know we are sadly unlikely to get more than a couple new podracers as sets, and that's only if we're lucky.
Seems to me like all the wings on the ARC-170 should be flipped around.
Don't forget this shuttle!

It could just be nostalgia talking, but I still prefer the 2004 Imperial Lambda Shuttle to the newest one.
@Kulturkampf It does seem like that, but for whatever reason, the actual set has them that way.
Huw, are you not counting 7264 Imperial Inspection? It came with another Imperial Shuttle, making this polybag the sixth version made by LEGO!
You could even count the micro shuttle that came with the 2011 Advent Calendar, if it's even worth counting :)
@amodestproposal - just realised you already mentioned 7264!
Anyway, I really like all these polybags, they're all nice little builds!
Thanks, HUW!
I've been waiting a while to figure out where the rest of them are. It's good to know that I haven't missed them yet.
Huw,
Let me see if I can clear up the Fighter/Interceptor mess.
Wookieepedia declares that a starfighter "was a small, maneuverable starship designed for military combat." Basically a generic term for any small ship capable of combat.
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Starfighter
The term 'Interceptor' is differentiated as a starfighter classification. They "were fast and maneuverable starfighters...designed specifically to target, hunt down, and destroy enemy fighters and bombers, hence the name interceptor, and thus were generally unsuited to carrying heavy bombing payloads." A more precise term for a specific type of starfighter.
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Interceptor
As far as Lego naming conventions goes, both terms are technically correct for both starships, however the Delta came along first and was often referred to as simply a "Jedi Starfighter."
There was even a game with this craft on the cover, "Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter." http://www.gamespot.com/star-wars-jedi-starfighter/
Therefore, to differentiate between the two and know what someone probably means when they refer to either term, I believe they have decided to stick with calling the Delta the Jedi Starfighter and go with the more specific term for the Eta, which is sometimes referred to as the Jedi Interceptor.
Hope this helps!
Thanks, the first one is also available in France, which is weird 'cause we usually don't find that much polybags
I managed to find the 30247 ARC-170 Starfighter from a Swedish auction site for $7. Really nice set ! The 30244 Anakin's Jedi Interceptor looks really nice too, I hope a can get my paws on that also in the near future. I like the dark green color, but what's up with the blue 1x? I know it should represent R2, but that is usually white och some sort och silver color.
Legoland Florida has both of the first two sets.
Legoland Discovery Center Westchester in Yonkers, NY had the Jedi Interceptor a month ago when I was there for February's Adult Night but last night they only had about 3.3 million of the Gandalf Dol Guldur polys =-(
What I noticed immediately when the instructions popped up is that 30245 hasn't been used, so I suspect another poly down the line.
Just got 30246 Imperial shuttle and 30227 police chase at a Meijer today
30244 has been at LDC in Schaumburg for awhile too.
