More Exo-Suit goodness...
Posted by Huw,
Pete has kindly provided us with more of Bluemoose's excellent photos of the Exo-Suit.
Update: two more pictures have been added below.
Important note: Mark Stafford (as lego_nabii) has been providing some background information on the development of the set on Reddit. The most important thing he states is "This is currently a single production run - I'm not sure of the figures - but if you see it and you want it then buy it, at the moment when it's gone it's gone for good. Don't be disappointed."
Click through for larger versions at flickr.
Note: the set comes with two green yellow-faced minifigs, not all of those shown below.

I like how they included Zane's head from ninjago although I will probably change them to the classic smiling minifigure head.
It looks like the turtle got a redesign! I'm glad they stuck with Zane's head, too. I was hoping that. The suit looks right at home in that display. :-)
Yep, still really excited for this set. :) Glad that my replica of Peter Reid's turtle will now have a buddy to hang out with.
@Packer221: It looks like it did. That new piece with 2 studs width and 1 clip is literally the perfect part for the head connection. Funnily enough, when I built my own version of the turtle, I used that exact same design, this prior to the reveal of the newly designed turtle. I guess it just made sense. :/
It looks like Huw became an Official Exo-Suit Maniac. :)
HUGE fan of classic space, and would have never considered buying this set (due to my general dislike of Mechs, Bionicle, and the like). However, with the inclusion of two green classic space men, there will be the store limit of these sets in my cart on day one. Maybe this will finally change my opinion on the whole Mech thing (or maybe just increase my inventory on Bricklink). Only time will tell.
Wow, Peter and Bluemoose sure have made that thing at home! It looks like something they would make, it looks that good! I love the blue stripe across the middle, makes it that much more classic spacey.
P.S. @Yuree, I think ALL of us are now Offical Exo-Suit Maniacs. :)
Interesting to see part 4735 Space Robot Arm in what looks to be Old Gray. Has this part not been made in the newer bluish gray?
On Reddit, Lego_Nabii said that he had a pre-set budget, so he started adding stuff to fill up the budget, he added a second minifigure, the turtle, and something else to fill up the set has much as possible. So I'm wondering what is the last thing he added that hasn't been shown to us yet.
Maybe the platform the turtle's inside is the other feature? Maybe not? Who knows, more images are to come, so let's wait and see...
This is going to be a very popular set! I can't wait, especially for the figures, because I never got a chance to get one, except in a magnet. But this will look very cool in my soon-to-be space setting!
Just a heads-up: "This is currently a single production run - I'm not sure of the figures - but if you see it and you want it then buy it, at the moment when it's gone it's gone for good. Don't be disappointed. (Not trying to do a hard sell here, this is currently the plan!)" http://www.reddit.com/r/lego/comments/29tas5/lego_ideas_exosuit_finally_revealed/ciojmkn
I just love the classic space-person suit done in green. That's cool. Like a cool little cherry on top of an awesome ice-cream-sundae.
Day one buy for me.
Any idea on a price?
@wildcherryp3psi I think it is gonna be 35 USD
Also are the green spacemen faces tan or yellow cause in these pics they are yellow and in the side by side comparison they are tan?
This look great, I do like that they used different heads instead of the smile head. I also love that they used Zane from Ninjago head plus even if I don't like the Light Flesh heads it would be cool to see those heads in that color.
The heads are yellow in the set.
Does anybody knows if this is going to be available in Amazon, sold by Amazon US?
I am living in Singapore and this is my best way to get it...
More minifigs? What is it?
It's showing all of the different colors of the Classic Spaceman torso Parsom
I know that Mark Stafford has been getting a lot of heat for the changes but I think he's done a great job. Anyone who has made anything Lego with single stud connections could easily see that those arms would be too fragile, and the whole thing not easy to pose. I love the redesign, and I can't wait to build it. Mark is behind several sets that I didn't think much of to look at the box, but the once getting into the build are fantastic, knowing this is his redesign gives me great hope in it.
well.. crap... there's no lego store in my country, and cuusoo/ideas sets never appears on any toy store here. so the only way is to get it online. if it's a single run, then i'll be screwed, i guess...
What does single run mean
@retox. It means they currently have no plans to make more once the initial batch runs out. As examples they sent the original Minecraft set back for more runs 3 or 4 times. Whereas they only made a single run of the Curiosity Rover. So once it sold out it was gone.
Oh man, if this is really a single run then I plan on buying as many examples possible!
Another new shot of the exo-suit here -

im gettin it right away then! They have Cuusoo and Ideas at my local mastermind
I believe the set only comes with the suit, the figures, the turtle with stand, and the barrels, from what bluemoose says. I don't know if they are not telling us us something, but I would love to see some weapons included in the set for the Exo-Suit. Either way, this set looks incredible and I can't wait to add this to my collection!
^ that's all of it ... but ... why not build your own accessories for the suit & share them on-line? Have an idea for a new type of arm, or a back-pack? How about a larger utility version, with room for passengers ... a maybe 4-legged 'Exo-suit (All Terrain)' version? I think we're all gonna be pretty disappointed if there aren't at least a 1001 variants posted on flickr before Christmas!
Have we gotten a solid release date other than sometime in August? Looks like this will be a Day 1 or never purchase, especially with all the people saying they're grabbing multiples. I just hope I can get one.
Well, if that's all it comes with, then... it's 'bout time I make me some BOOMSTICKS!!! :)
Oh, @zeldafanatic15, the official mainstream release date is August 1.
Does anyone know the piece count or the US price is?
Canada price is officaly 44.99. I really couldnt care less about the Usa price, but around 3-400 parts
@Castleguy121 Thanks
1st I would like to say hello to you all as this is probably my 1st or second post on the site since joining can't quite remember.... I'm so pleased about this set as it reminds me of my classic space collection I had as a child. It's just fantastic and I don't think anyone should be negative especially after as its come from our community. Peter has done an excellent job and I think this does justice to the original. Having seen the original up close like many of use I'm so pleased for him. I'm going to have to get 2.
the exosuit has made it on to kotaku: http://kotaku.com/the-exo-suit-ushers-in-a-new-age-of-lego-space-explorat-1600881494/+rtgonzalez
@fenderbender336 my initial "will get one and maybe a second" has now become "i must get at least three"... damn this awesomeness! :D
Single production run like the Mars Rover BS. LEGO is run by idiots. I'm sick of collectible LEGO, it's a toy, make enough of them.
@ The Green Brick Giant - I don't think they necessarily do it to make it a valuable collectible, but because they aren't willing to commit enough resources to non-IP Cuusoo/Ideas projects in general. If they're forking out the cash to license Back to the Future or Ghostbusters, those sets will be around a good, long while. But I guess they don't want to be locked into that kind of production commitment to non-IP sets like this and Curiosity. I'm sure the same will apply to the Research Institute when it's released.
But I totally agree with the "it's a toy, make enough of them" sentiment. And now that everyone knows it's a one-time production run, TLG's all but put up a "Hoard Me for eBay!" sign. Given that many of us already planned on buying more than one just to army build, the known scarcity may make purchasing this a complete nightmare.
I still hold out hope that if it sells like hotcakes, TLG will order a second run. I mean, even with the limited Ideas budget, how can they decide they don't want people's money??
^Exactly. I thought all Ideas/CUUSOO were single production runs, UNLESS they were selling/back ordered so far that they could afford/justify a second production run. It was never intended to be a long time set. I think the Mars Rover sold out much quicker than they expected. I had no interest in it and it was surprising to me that it sold out at all. But that's just me.
With this, TONS of classic space fans will be buying it for the minifigure alone, not to mention the actual suit. I am not even a huge fan, but I'd be willing to buy one or two. But with EVERYONE and their dog buying multiples, methinks I will not end up with one and if I didn't want to pay retail for the set, I definitely wouldn't pay more than retail on ebay.
Agreed @Modok, just curious, how long do think this thing will last on Shop @Home before it is completely sold out? Should I just buy it the day it's released? , because I don't want to miss out on this greatness. :)
@dragonboy1 my bet on how long on LEGO.com? 12-18 hours.
BTTF and GB were not single runs, if they were they were MASSIVE runs because they came out at Target within weeks of release at LEGO.
If you can't be bothered to actually make the sets people want, then don't do LEGO Cuusoo / Ideas. I F------ Love Science did a story on the rover when it reached 10,000. If LEGO bothered to make more than 10 IFLS would have ran how the set was out and LEGO would have sold a lot more.
Thanks, @Faefrost, now I know it's best to go ahead and buy it the day of release. Hope it lasts a little while, for the latecomers, or even goes on for another run.
Sucks about the single production run. Perhaps if it does really well, they'll greenlight a second?
While there’s always going to be speculation, I hope to calm some of the more extreme concerns: Deciding how much of a product to produce is both art and science. For any LEGO product we must balance producing enough to meet demand with not over-producing.
We (LEGO Ideas team) recognize the popularity of sets like the Exo Suit and make our best efforts to meet demand. We also learn and adapt from experiences where our estimates are off, and we sincerely hope you’re able to secure an Exo Suit or two for your own hangar bay if you so desire.
Personally I can't wait to get my copy of this set. My all-time favorite minifig is the red Futuron, but I'll make space in my heart for Pete and Yve, the green Classic Space figs! :-)
