Ohhhhh.... Do I spot some classic space DNA in that spaceship coming out of that machine?

Anyways, quite a nice looking set overall, not as nice as the prior winter village sets in my opinion, but a nice one by itself.

By in United States,

I love this what a great set! A must have for the holidays.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Another great set for my favourite holiday!

By in Taiwan,

Wow, absolutely exciting news. Can't wait to get it.

I'd say I was waiting for Mrs Claus, but it's alittle dissapointing that she doesn't have the CMF qualities as her counterpart has. The face and torso are just from Castle queens. Or she's actually a Lion Queen? :p

The new mold issues have been discussed many times. I honestly think these brick reindeers are super cute.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@1265 I think it's better with the brick build reindeer. It gives it a much more Lego-y look. Also, it is part of the Creator theme, and that theme isn't usually one we see molded parts in.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Awesome, I love the Christmas sets!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This looks great...much better than I thought it would be when it was first leaked a few months ago. I wasn't a fan of the brick-built reindeer at first, but they've grown on me. Those cute little eyes really give them some personality.

Of course, this is a departure from the real-world winter village sets we've gotten the past few years, but there's nothing wrong with some variation every now and then.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love it more and more everytime I see or hear more about it! A family dual-building experience!?! Building the winter sets as a family has been a holiday tradition for years now and I can't wait to see what the dual experience is all about!

By in United States,

Has anyone else noticed that in the video Marcus says Santa's Workshop will "complete" the Winter Village? Am I just reading too much into it or does this mean this will be the last year for a Winter Village set? I truly hope not, because I love my Village and adding the new set plus an MOC set is one of the highlights of my Christmas season.

By in United Kingdom,

While it's not a very traditional winter village building I love this. The main thing I'm going to change is adding a photographer and a Santa's throne to make it more like a visit Santa's grotto deal rather than trying to be a real Santa's workshop.

By in Canada,

This is very cute, and I'm happy the pricepoint is back down from the 130 cdn of the past two years. Granted the cottage was extremely detailed and had a lot of pieces. Skipped the winter carnival though. Happy to add this to our winter village! I think, this year, I will leave them all built and find space for them --- even if it is out of sight. Less time to rebuild them all each season!

As an aside, sometimes when LEGO sets contain molded new creatures, people complain that they're "not brick-built." When they brick-build creatures, other people complain Lego didn't make a new mold...

By in United Kingdom,

I too hope this isn't the last winter village set! The "man upstairs" in me isn't sure if the santas workshop fits with the rest of the line but as a standalone set it's pretty cool! My preference would be moulded reindeer but I agree with @rnsrobot that you can't please everyone!! It's a definite purchase for me but more than likely this will be a standalone display elsewhere and not with my winter village!

By in Netherlands,

There are a couple of things that are somewhat dissapointing
1. Mrs Claus. I do like the print on the bottom (no pun intended) part, but the headpiece is not so well chosen. Not enough grandmotherly like, more like a evil stephmother.
2. The reindeer. Should be one mold. With the cows, goats, chicken, husky it should not be that strange or difficult. Eventough it is a creator set. Your typpical creator set doesn't include minifigs aswell.
3. The set is really cool, but it has a different vibe than the previous winter village sets. Partly because of the reindeer. It feels les ... Serious.

But than the things I am really happy about. Well there will be a lot more items to be named than 3. So I will restrain myself from putting them all down here. Long story short: I really like this set.
I will build this each year with my winter village set, but display it at a fair distance from the other buildings. If only because Santa doesn't live in a village in real life too, now does he? He should be isolated from the others. So maybe the slightly different look isn't all that bad at all.

By in United Kingdom,

This is definitely the best WV set so far! At last, a decent one!!!!!! :-) x1,000,000,000,000. :-P

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I love it. The brick-built reindeer look great, and the architecture of the building is marvelous. £59.99 is an excellent price and this will definetely be an immediate purchase (although not to be built until Christmas Eve of course).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks like a great set for the price.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Yeah, as much as I love the other Winter Village sets, I really don't like this one very much. To from the little snowy village, to Santa's actual workshop (with elves and reindeer and so forth), seems a very strange jump. I don't like it.

Also, do any of the reindeer have a glowing red nose? That seems an unforgivable oversight on Lego's behalf.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Zordboy
I was thinking the same thing about Rudolph. Still, a colour change with a single piece and we are sorted.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I was sceptical when I saw the leaked image back in May but I think it is delightful ! It's helpful that Lego have officially confirmed that the set is part of the Winter Village canon, although I agree with the previous comments that a snowy winter village and the North Pole don't really mix, neither does the fantasy/reality juxtaposition. Still, one can be too purist about what is a kids' toy, and my children love it.

Architecturally, I think's it's totally in keeping with the previous sets. Nice touches include the clock from 10224 Town Hall, the shop sign piece in black and the little hatch for the elves to peep out of the left hand door. The main issue is the lack of roof on the "workshop" part of the building. It would also have been good to have a carrot or two for the reindeer.

It's the most expensive set to date per piece ... ignoring the listed sterling prices on Brickset for 10199 and 10216 which were available for £39.99 if I recall correctly.

I hope the "complete" comment by Marcus Bessa was indeed throwaway, but perhaps a set including Father Christmas does represent the finale of the theme ... it would certainly be logical to do so.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I thought there have been photos of this set for some time??

Gravatar
By in United States,

Add four more reindeer and put a red 1x1 on the end of the little reindeer's nose, and you got yourself a deal.

Also the pole for the north pole needs to be taller (easy fix).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I hope the reindeer's eyes are printed... I don't apply stickers and brick-built animals are gonna look weird with no eyes. Happy with everything else including the lower price

Gravatar
By in United States,

OK, that's nice. I guess. This wouldn't be at the top of my list at the $70 price range this year, though. I was wondering when they would reveal this.

Reindeer and Mrs. Claus are poorly executed. The "Dual Building" aspect sounds fun-- for an adult and a 7-year-old. I am old enough to put the whole thing together myself in about 2 hours or less. I wonder if this thing's instructions would actually state that...

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

It has been a quit LEGO year for me, with no Castle, Western, Pirates, Viking or Harry Potter sets in the stores. Luckily I'm also in to the Winter Vilage, so this is definitely a buy.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is this really the 'Winter Village' set? All the other sets are called 'Winter Village Bakery', 'Winter Village Cottage', etc. This one does not have the 'Winter Village' preface.

Is there a possibility we will get another actual 'Winter Village' set this year?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I personally love it, even though it doesn't "fit in" with the previous sets. I missed out on the toy shop, and I still want it, but this makes an equally amazing replacement. As for the reindeer, I absolutely LOVE them! There's even a tiny one :). (I'd just like to point out the tiny one wouldn't have been possible if they were molds)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

At last, another holiday set worth buying. Had no time for the last two - the house was great, but it didn't match the first three sets well enough for me. This does, just about.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Good to see a christmas set at a lower price point.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This series is always a planned purchase every year.

This does not fit in with the rest, but to me, the Market didn't either. Nor did the Cottage. They just had a different vibe to them than the first three. Maybe it was due to size, I don't know.

The Cottage had a lot of detail and a great price to piece ratio, even though it was a lot more expensive. The Market didn't seem to get your money's worth, but it was a neat play feature. This is a much better price point, but disappointed in a few things.

I hate the constant re-use of torsos/heads in all of these themes. If you buy any Modular building and a winter village set, you will have all of the torsos you'll ever get (basically). I don't necessarily think all of the elves needed to look exactly the same, but since they came out with the CMF elf the year previously, I stocked up on them, so I will have a group of similar looking elves. Mrs. Claus is very disappointing. They must have a lot of that Kingdom's torso to use up.

Brick-built creatures work best for this, but I would have preferred molded creatures. But just imagine how expensive the set would be with 5 molded animals?!? You can hardly get a horse in a set at a reasonable cost.

I do like the chimney/stone work on the side, the black signage, and the paned window. The use of the new tooth piece works for ice overlapping the roof edge. Something just doesn't fit for me. But I'll still pick it up.

If LEGO were to stop making these, it is probably only because they ran out of ideas. Although I think the Market didn't sell well at all, so that doesn't help their mindset. But I'll have $70-100 leftover for my Christmas budget next year then...

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Peter1975: There hasn't been Vikings or Western in a long time, but 2013's The Lone Ranger and Castle are still available where I live. TLR makes a great sub-in for Western. Harry Potter ended when the movies stopped coming.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Mentioning this being the possible last one made me think, what else can they do? I honestly cannot think of anything else that would have the same vibe as the first three. Maybe a Cafe or something, but its a little bit of a stretch. That and anything else I think would feel more like a regular shop with a christmas theme, unlike the first few in the series (and this one) that breathe Christmas. I really hope they come up with something to prove me wrong...

Wait! (8 minutes later) I got it!
A Winter Village Candy Shop! I think that could work...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really like this set, I hope it's not the last in the series.

@Jonathan I like the Candy Shop idea, they could also do a Winter Village Train Station and a Winter Village Town Hall, to put the gazebo in front and make it the center of the the village.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^^ @Jonathan: I wish they could do a little country church with a Christmas play going on. But somebody would probably get "offended" and sue or something... Perhaps a little community center with a stage?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Would have been a good opportunity to throw in one of the new polar bears from the City Arctic sets, but other than that, looks like an okay set for the price point.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Watching the video, looks like stickers and printed pieces..I noticed the sticker on the sign is not centered..haha, just like how it comes out on me too...
I was hoping the toy making machine had a real conveyor belt, but its just grill pieces. Oh well. Its an OK set, I will probably get it. I came late to the Winter theme, so only have the Winter Village Market. Hope this is not the end to the theme!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

@kempo81 - well, the workshop should be at the North Pole. Right? ;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I agree with one and all, the reindeer blow it! They have been increasing the animal kingdom - just look at the huskies in the new ARTIC Range, this was the perfect chance for us to have a reindeer! heck they did a faun for Friends!
Also no tile floor as in the other WINTER VILLAGE Sets!
I think there will be plenty of MODIFICATIONS of this model!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I liked this set when photos first came out, but now I can see all the little details I love it! The $70 price point makes it a little easier to love, as well.

An added bonus is it looks like besides just being a nice set, it is also a nice parts pack.

I will definitely do my best to pick one (perhaps two) of these up.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

@rodiziorobs - very happy and surprised at the price point! I wonder what christmas bonus will be out this year. Have the sled from a couple years ago, and both of last years. =)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

How can 3 people allready own this set?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm surprised at the price. Thought it would be up there with the last two Winter Village sets.
Also a nice way to pick up rare parts for $69.99 (as with all the WV sets); I'm lookin' at that 4x4 clock.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm very happy to see this one back to the size and price point of the first three!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the idea of a Winter Village Candy Shop and a Town Hall. I have also thought a Winter Village Inn would be neat. I made my own Winter Village Train Depot and I have plans for a Chapel with a Nativity out front. I don't think LEGO would do a Chapel/Church because they normally try to keep their products religiously neutral. That's why it's called the Winter Village instead of a Christmas or Holiday Village. I think I will set the Workshop up as part of the Market to keep the Village based in reality, but I do have to say I love the way it looks.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

As a parts collector, I'm most looking forward to the life buoy in green. At last I will be getting it from a set I actually want anyway, rather than from the (otherwise meh and terribly overpriced) 3817 Flying Dutchman.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I wouldn't be at all surprised if June Winter Village line was to take a break. It's had a fantastic run, but if we're being brutally honest, just how many great ideas have been used for the winter village rather than the modular buildings? The bakery and post office alone would have surely made incredible products, so perhaps the designers are going to consolidate their ideas for 'buildings' into just one line, and leave the winter sets to a more fantasy output.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Loving the brick built reindeer! Too many lego fans seem to want all creatures to be single molds,it's not playmobil you know!! Great set at this price point, just wish i'd started getting these from the beginning but too late now.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks great. I think this will be the first village set I get. For those of you who don't think it fits with the rest of the village, you could always display it with the new arctic theme. Change the elves faces to screaming ones and they'll look great running from a polar bear :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

When I came out of my dark ages, the only WV set available from LEGO.com was the Winter Cottage, which frankly didn't look very cottage-like to me--too big compared to the older sets. I loved the Bakery and the Post Office and the Toy Shop but wasn't willing to pay the after-market prices (which of course are continuing to climb). So Winter Market is the only WV set I have, and I think this new set blends pretty well with it--brick-built reindeer and all. I know of lots of "Santa's Workshop" setups at shopping centers that have statues of reindeer, after all, and I do think the brick-built ones are very cute, clever and Christmas-y. Last year's two small Creator sets also blend in well, adding elements from the older sets that I don't have. What's more, if the Fairground Mixer really is the first of a new series of sets centering on carnivals/fairs, that will also blend with the Winter Market, though not with the rest of the WV. So a sequence of themes evolving rather than coming to an abrupt end...sort of like life, in a way. I think that's better than TLG trying to keep alive a theme after they've stopped having fresh ideas for it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

While this set departs from the reality-based sets, I'll set them up so that the town ones are centered around the market, with the cottage a ways away like it's a sky chalet up on a mountain, and this one off in the corner at the North Pole.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love this set!! The elves, the reindeer, the scale, the price, the printed Christmas cookies! It all looks just dandy to me. There is nothing in the set that can't be fixed by a few bricks and a little imagination. I will buy this and the Winter Market first day to complete my collection. No Winter Train for me though. :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not to be nit-picky but it was unveiled in Santa Clara, not San Francisco (50 minutes north).

Gravatar
By in United States,

A definite buy for me. It's a better design and within my price range compared to the last two winter village sets.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The price is quite attractive. Not too into the reindeer, but I thats what Arctic husky dogs are for. Or maybe my Scratchy doubles from the Simpson series. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Scratchy...

Gravatar
By in United States,

$70? No thank you.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

It is not so surprising if this were to be the last winter village set.
Advent callenders almost always end with Santa. So it would logical to end the winter village with him aswell.

Sure hope not. But it would be consistend.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Cool! I made myself an extra stand for the set from last year, so Larry the Barista could get a place on the market too. The cookies i ordered as decoration are also used in this set. Always nice when things come back on a couple of places in your winter village! ;)
