Hobbit set images 'leak' from Mexican factory
Posted by Huw,I was emailed images of three Hobbit sets (79015-7) from someone in Mexico last night. I suspect the images and/or the sets were acquired illegitimately from the factory there, so I wasn't going to add them here, but it seems that every other site has published them, so what the heck, they are now in the database.
Update: We have removed them at the request of LEGO.

Witch King Battle looks interesting.
I was really waiting for these set images.
Great to have seen them now!
Attack on lacke town and the Witch King Battle look great! Nice to have a Galadriel figure now.
The battle of the five armies looks great, the set-up a bit disapointing. I was hoping for more different dwarfs, elfes and men. But it looks like we get one from each. I can understand the reasoning behind this. However buying multiple boxes only results in having the same minifigs over and over again. I would have prefered sets similor to the SW battle packs. But we will see. It does look very cool.
Unless I am mistaken no minifigs of the company (Dwarfs or Bilbo) nor gandalf. That is remarcable.
Piece counts seem smaller than some of the sets that have gone before but that's a lot of minifigures in each set. Which I guess you need for a film called the Battle of Five Armies...
They're all posted, Evil Pixie Works. Just follow the link where Huw identifies the photographed sets.
Personally, I'm finding it hard to work out what's going on in the Battle of Five Armies set--but I agree that a Galadriel minifigure is long overdue, and the Attack on Lake Town should complement the other Lake Town set very nicely. Not sure which, if any, of these sets I'll actually buy, though.
Nice, finally get to see the images.
Dissapointed again :-(. Hoped for something with Display apeal like the bagends but still....only Walls with some figures. But i add them to the Rest in my hobbit room like the last Walls and figures anyway ;-). Please Lego take my Money....and Build a lotr nazgul ucs Set :-))).
Really big disappointment. All hobbit/lotr sets are just gates, walls, etc. Really small sets.
The Galardriel set seems interesting, but Galadriel has a strange face, hope there will be an alternative.
The laketown set isn not particularly interesting, expect for Tauriel's new clothes :D.
BUT
What is this "Battle of five armies" joke? No Thranduil riding a deer, where is the shining elf army? 2 orks and some dwarfs and that boring warmachine? Seriously?
Love the witch king battle, just for the figs though, witch king looks awesome with the helmet :)
lake town looks good, might just pick it up if it gets on clearance, together with the other lake town, but BOT5A looks horrible to me... still don't like the eagles. prefer the brick built creator set. but it's nice to have the pics :)
I'll be buying them all, but I'm a little disappointed there isn't more to the Attack on Lake-Town set.
p.s. looks like tauriel stole gollums boat :P
I would have hoped the Five Armies set would be more the size of the Dol Goldur or Helm's Deep set with a veritable army of figures. It just looks a bit small.
The other sets looks good though, and I'm a sucker, so I'll be getting them all.
Jo
Why the orcs in Attack on laketown have Narzug hair piece?
Is that a Glow in the dark head I see in Witch-King Battle?
NOOOO!! I never got to see them!!!
Bah I didn't get to see them. I wish Lego would stop with this removing thingy business, after all they will be out before 2015.
Nooo, I wanted to have the images but they removed them.
However, when are they going to show the images?
" these sets are under embargo and not to be shared until October 15th as per agreement with the license owner."
what is going in the Battle of the Five Armies set? Are half the pieces used to make a catapult? Only one worth getting is the Witch King Battle set; that's coming from a die hard LOTR/Hobbit fan.
Of course Lego wants the pictures down - they don't want AFOLs to see that the Bard from the Battle of the Five Armies set is the same one they gave out at SDCC, thus destroying the aftermarket/eBay value of the SDCC version.
^LEGO had already announced that. The real reason is (besides New Lone Cinema getting mad for spoilers) is that Lego doesn't want competitors to copy the sets and claim it as theirs.
Saw these on thebrickfan.com. Eh... I was never one for Middle-Earth LEGO, but BO5A looks like a generic Castle set. Lake-Town and Witch-King Battle are pretty decent, though.
Really? LEGO wants to remove pictures of sets that will be out in TWO MONTHS? That's odd, seeing as most sets we've actually seen 60 days ahead of time.
^ Was "New Lone Cinema" a joke or misspelling?
Is the Elf from "Witch King battle" the same as in the polybag "Eldron"???
I Like the Witch King Battle and Lake town. Both have either great new minifigures or at least Army builders (the orcs with laketown look like they have variations on the hair piece...great for an orc army). The battle of the five armies I'll pass on. I wish it had generic minifigures for an army builder and it might be worth it, but I'm guessing one of the dwarves is another Thorin, You get Azog again, another Bard, I bet the elf is Legolas, the eagle is nice, but again as an Army builder its a little meh. No Wargs? I believe in the book the 5 armies are elves, men, orc, Wargs, and dwarves...the eagles are not considered one of the armies. I'm thinking for the movie since Wargs are just dumb beasts they are not considering them one of the armies.
where can i see the pictures
^ The five armies are dwarves, eagles, elves, goblins, and men. The wargs are part of the goblin forces.
I am really happy I check brickset a couple of times a day. Other wise I probably missed out on the images.
TLC should be happy with this leak. With the comments they can alter or tweak some sets.
Ow! Conspiracy thinking: maybe they already to this. LOL
The more I think about it, the more I am dissapointed with the BOTFA set.
A couple of figures we have seen befor. Not a great army builder indeed.
However I am extremely pleased with Bard being the one from SDCC. I find it uterly rediculous that TLC makes selected sets like these. For me living in the netherlands it is completely impossible to own any of these sets or figures. At least for normal prices.
^ Hm. It's been a couple years since I last read the book. I was always under the impression that the arrival of the eagles is what made it five armies, but looking at a couple websites, it seems the wargs were separate from the goblins. Sorry for the misinformation!
Brickipedia still has the pictures as of now so if u missed them u can see them there
@ kmvk83, I don't think they can tweak anything in the sets, they are probably packed and ready, or production is still going, but I am sure they are not just starting it, and they probably cannot alter anything at this point.
Nice finaly hopefully there a lot more sets comming like the theme very much
Passing on all of these except for Witch-King, solely for the minifigures. Although ... I may need to see how the two lake-town sets look together...
If this is it for Hobbit/LOTR, man, bummed we got no Eowyn, Faramir, or any Gondor-based sets. Osgiliath set? Nah here's a pirate ship! =)
Overall happy though with amazing sets like Helm's Deep, Weathertop, Bag End, and Orthanc. Perhaps the theme just didn't sell that well...
If you remove the images, remove the article, otherwise its just aggravating when trying to find the images.
Either way though - found the sets on Brickipedia (Thanks @Bbillin) and honestly none of them really peak my interest.
Attack on lake town;
- Looks like a pretty basic set to me, wasn't interested in the first Laketown set and this looks less impressive than that
The Witch King;
- Looks very basic also, nothing interesting except the Witch King... who I arguably found to look rather disappointing after all the hype
Battle Of The Five Armies;
- According to Brickipedia this is a $139.99 set along with the Smaug set meaning it equates to about 20p per piece... so this is a very easy pass. Even if the price drops to around $80 it still isn't worth it unless you collect the figures, something which I don't.
^ anecdotal and eye test evidence seems to point to the theme not selling well all along. Certainly it seems to me that LEGO was just "mailing it in" on these designs for awhile now. As it turns out, the first LOTR wave and the first Hobbit wave were pretty good overall. The second LOTR wave, and the 2nd and 3rd Hobbit waves were pretty major disappointments and overall I think LEGO's strategy in regards to the license was ill conceived. In the end though, it likely came down to a poor brand fit from the start. the IP is primarily adult - oriented. It was always going to be a hard sell shifting these in big numbers toward 6 to 12 year old boys
I think the Hobbit splitting into three films snookered them a bit as well.
As a LOTR / Hobbit fan, it's sad that I can't find interest in these sets. These are just more poorly built props / walls to facilitate the minifigs in the sets.
I defiantly do t think these are the final pictures of the sets the new laketown sets looks pretty good not so sure about the battle of five armies and witch king battle I will probably pick up the lonely Mountain and attack on laketown but I'll have to wait and see how the other two turn out really exited for the new movie
I have waited so long for images and now I missed them...
Not sure what was posted here but the fronts and backs of the ones I saw looked pretty final to me. @Scarilian The Battle of the Five Armies set was listed at 59.99 here http://www.lordofthebrick.com/2014/08/lego-the-hobbit-2014-les-sets-en-images/ , its only 472 pieces. The Lonely Mountain set is nearly 900 pieces for 129.99. US currency anyways
@Evil Pixie Works: It's not LEGO's call. It's for the safety of the license LEGO holds for The Hobbit. The owners of the Hobbit IP wouldn't allow LEGO to share details of the sets for the upcoming movie until October 15, and having them leak earlier than that date puts the future of the license in jeopardy. The excerpt from the email LEGO sent out reads: "Please note that these sets are under embargo and not to be shared until October 15th as per agreement with the license owner. " ... "This is not something that we like to ask, but this is one of those business crucial moments where we ask you to help us do what is possible to contain this leak."
It's not that LEGO doesn't want them to be shared-- it's just that the license owners won't allow LEGO to share them earlier than agreed upon.
Most of us will probably own the set before Octobar 15th. I'll never understand the secrecy with licenses and toys, but whatever. These sets are pretty poor. I only have interest in some of the minifigs. The sets all look awful.
Anyone know what other themes are coming in October? Or January for that matter? Or is that a top secret too?
To everyone who missed the pics: available on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lg_H53vaHmo
Looks like Witch-king battle connects with one of the Dol Guldur sets.
In really want to like the Hobbit sets and the movies. But they just don't stand up to the original LOTR stuff. There has only been two hobbit sets I have really liked the Unexpected Gathering set and the Riddles for the Ring. The Desolation of Smaug line just meh for me as I though that none of the sets seemed to be worth getting. These sets while not perfect I think are worth it. There are a lot of good figures (i.e Witch King, Galadrial, Smaug even if he's not a mini figure) so while I was wishing for a Black Rider Witch King, a ghost version is cool too though. I think I'll definitely get the Witch King Battle and the Lonely Mountain, I know I am not getting the Lake Town set but I will have to wait till better pics come out for the Battle of the Five Armies set
Well, I don't think LEGO has anything to lose by losing the license... aren't they completely done with Middle-Earth after this wave? Would the loss of a license stop these sets from being released? And aren't these sets supposed to come out October 1?!
^ if they violate this license agreement and let the images out early it might be harder to get future licenses. Company A let's have Lego make us some toys. Executive 1 but they let out the hobbit set images early. Executive 2 you're right let's have mega blocks make the sets.
I'm going to assume that if the pictures can't be linked directly here, there also shouldn't be comments linking them elsewhere.
Sorry Modok. I wasn't thinking. Can a mod delete my comment? And that wasn't my vid. I googled it.
It would be cool to have the dark Galadriel being tempted by the One Ring in LOTR. And agreeing with the sentiments above, where is Thranduil? And it would make sense to include Beorn in bear form; he fights in the battle. Not sure why another Lake Town set is needed either.
Will buy them anyway, of course.
Lol.. I can hear my grandmother's voice in my head: "And if everyone started collecting mega blocks would you start doing it too?"
@hewhocaves, my awnser would be: no way!
LOL
It is a shame these licenses don't sell as well as was hoped for. I really like most of them. I do hope this is not the last wave of sets. There are still tons of scenes. I would like to see in a LEGO set.
But if they stop, I really do hope TLC goes back to the Castle fantasy themed sets. I love those dwarfs, and we never got the elves back then.
@peterjohn0
I'm not really sure that Lego are bothered by aftermarket pricing. They can only make their profit once, after all, they get no commission from eBay or BrickLink.
^To be honest I hope LEGO is bothered by aftermarket pricing. In the way that they do not like it people are asked to be rediculously high prices. Mr. Gold being the most notorious one, considering pieces vs price ratio.
I actually think that there is a warg included because the box is cut off and wargs are never included in the list of minifigures in the corner.
I was hoping for a few LOTR sets to round out both series this year. Even just a white wall with a black dragon, Witchking, Théoden, Eowyn, and maybe Merry in Rohan armor. Just that one set would do a lot for completing the major scenes of the story. As it stands, though, the line of sets feels incomplete.
Haha Mexican wave jajaja you rule dude!
LEGO really messed up this Middle Earth theme. All you needed was army builders. That is all LOTR was about. Now, Hobbit could have used army builders for this last wave for sure. But they decided to give us poop on a stick instead.
I have no doubt the new figures will look nice, but why so many repeats? And the brick construction seems pointless in these builds.
I am sick and tired of defending how poorly Lego has treated the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit franchises, so I'll just say it--these sets are terrible wastes of the greatest potential theme ever. There are so many iconic buildings, battles, and characters, but we only get the same ones over and over. The Hobbits and Dwarves can't sit down, you have to spend a fortune to get all the main characters, there are few unique sculpts/pieces, the piece/price ratios are criminal, and almost all of the architecture/builds are pitiful. Orthanc Tower was probably the only truly great set, and very few of the others (Helm's Deep, maybe Moria) were even good. No bear Beorn? No Balrog? No Fell-beast? No Baradur? No armored Sauron? No Minas Tirith? No Prancing Pony or Green Dragon? No Grey Havens? After spending a lifetime dreaming of what Lego Tolkien would be like, I realize that my expectations were too high. But that doesn't change the sad fact that even Mega Bloks would have done a better job. So sad... I really hope this isn't the end of the Middle Earth theme, but from what I've heard there are no further sets planned. What a waste.
On kevkipo's page on Flickr, the pics are still up. I have saved them to my computer.
Sigh... Warner Bros. was OK with TLM and The Hobbit, but they have really screwed up the DC movieverse. Fox isn't doing any better with their incomprehensibly bad Craptastic Four reboot.
^ Gosuke, I agree they really need to do another wave of Lord of the Rings to really finish out this line and it has been a little disappointing how they have designed some of the sets. Adding to your list of sets they haven't made are Osgiliath, Mumukil, Amon Hen, and Minas Morgul. Just to name a few more. They also have a lot of minifigs left that they have yet to make Witch King, Faramir, Eowyn, Gondor Soldiers, Gondor Rangers, Haradrim, etc. Somehow they continue to remake the same minifigs over and over again in every set. I really hope they have one more solid wave of LOTR sets just to get us the rest of the minifigures and some of the main sets.
@Gosuke: you've just come the closest to summarizing my thoughts and observations exactly. So thank you for your post.
Frankly, I'm shocked at what appears to be a lack of concern/care over the treatment of LOTR themed Lego. I am truly taken aback and wasn't prepared for the complete lack of will and effort that was put into what could have been the greatest marriage (Lego + LOTR). I haven't heard near enough uproar or outrage. Where are all the true fans? This incoherent, incomplete, half-attempted excuse for a theme just devalues and destroys what LOTR stands for. That film trilogy alone should have commanded better representation via Lego. As alluded to above, every single set produced in this line should have been handled with the kind of care and compassion that was attributed to Tower of Orthanc (a truly great set). It's almost an unwritten rule that if you're going to do LOTR, you either do it right and give it 100%, or don't do it at all. Lego may go down as one of the few industry giants to actually have broken this "rule."
A true tragedy. I find it so mind-numbing to think that all the brilliant and creative "Himalayas of the mind" inside TLG could have let this poor effort go unchallenged.
I managed to find someone's video somewhere of these leaks and the sets aren't particularly interesting, but then the vast majority of my Lego funds go towards SW sets and minifigures. They do seem to be fairly accurate to the film, but simplified far too much for my liking. Bag End is the only Hobbit set I own but I love it as an iconic piece for Tolkien in General. It certainly has a lot more to it than pretty much every other Hobbit set. But besides the design, TLG really has to make sure these leaks don't happen, or new licenses may be harder to pick up in the future. I don't mind waiting to see pics, especially if I have a rumour list to mull over
