The Unofficial LEGO Minifigure Catalog app free for a limited time
Posted by Huw,
Christoph Bartneck is offering the iOS version of his minifigure catalogue app free for a limited time.
Update: Note that this is a freemium app and you'll have to pay for the latest catalogue updates.
Find out more at minifigure.org or iTunes.

Not entirely free since all the minifigs newer than 2011 are to be bought as in app purchases.
What does this app add to what Brickset already offers very well?
It's more or less a BS app because of those in-app purchases for most minifigures.
That will teach me to read the comments first... before blindly believing headlines. Disappointing.
I think part of it is the total lack of news this site usually delivers. Unfortunately. I am a fan of the database though.
Christoph asked me to post the news, which I was happy to do given he has provided material for review in the past. However, clearly I was was not aware of all the facts if this is actually a freemium app and not really free at all.
I will modify the article.
@Sethro3, yes there is a total lack of news today. Let me know what news other sites have posted today -- I don't think there is any. I obviously can't make news up, so would you rather there were no updates?
The 'LEGO world' is not as active in terms of news as, say, technology, so there will be days when there's nothing to report. Of course if you'd like to contribute articles about what's happening where you are I'd be happy to publish them.
^ I have news - LEGO.com is not working. However, is it news?
i use it all the time, the android version. it is very nice with a lot of pics for every minifig...
Dude @thehornedrat what's your problem? are you an active investor on Brickset? donor? collaborator? like all of us I imagine you come here to read news and know what's new and learn about what interest you. We invest time reading, writting reviews or providing news for the other others. I've never been asked a penny from Brickset, but I'd gladdly help the site so I can keep my inventory up to date.
The forum news are news whtether the app is free or not. LEGO apps exist and most of them are free and this is just another option that happens to be free with in-app purchases like many other apps.
I'm happy with the Brickset app and don't care much for the others out there, but the adittional details you get with this minifigure catalogue might be valuable for other people reading this.
^ Now it's OK. But earlier after clicking in "checkout" button I had white screen.
I have to say that LEGO.com is one of the worst Internet stores I've ever seen. Problems with searching, self-changing language, strange sorting (I always have Duplo on first screen when I'm doing sorting by "new items") etc.
Huw - I only look at Brickset and Eurobricks, so if I don't see it on there, I don't see it. So essentially since Eurobricks is a giant forum with non-stop discussion, I don't even really see news there. So Brickset is my only LEGO news source. So if it is a slow day, I understand that. I don't know how to run a website, but I'd imagine on slow days you still want to try to give people something new to look at.
I wasn't trying to upset anyone, but I can see how my wording could do just that. (I did say how much I like the database though!)
^ OK, no worries. I hope you continue to enjoy the site!
This app is one of the worst programmed apps I've ever seen. The navigation is really 1987: the only thing you can do when you are in submenu 1-6 is to click back to 1-5, then 1-4, 1-3 and so on until you're back at the start. At times pictures obscure texts. There's no way you can view your (imported) collection of minifigs. The display of pictures is slow, they seem to be downloaded every time you click on one. No way to organize, just browsing, endlessly.
@ Brickset administrators (Huw and others): I fail to understand why your usually high standards with regard to reviewing Lego sets are not the same when you are publishing news/reviews about products from your 'friends' like Christoph Bartneck or your friends at Blocks magazine .
Hi,
Disclaimer: I am the developer for the app and a partner of Mr. Bartneck.
To be clear, with the current promotion, you get all minifigs from 1975 to 2010 plus all Collectible Minifigs for free. This is 3,891 minifigs for $0.00.
For 2011, 2012, and 2013, we are charging $0.99. Christoph spends *hundreds* of hours each year cataloging, taking pictures and processing the images of each of the hundreds of new minifigs. We think $0.99 is a reasonable asking price for these yearly updates.
@dutchlegofan50 I'm sorry to hear you frustrated with the interface. We don't include the 10 GB of photos with the app as it would take up nearly all of your tablet/phone's storage, so we only download images as needed. You should be able to view all of your imported collection in the "My Figs" tab. Please contact us at support @minifigure.org so we get more feedback with your other concerns.
For everyone else, please contact us at support @minifigure.org if you have any other questions or concerns.
