LEGO Speed Champions Back to the Future DeLorean official images!
Posted by CapnRex101,
21103 The DeLorean Time Machine was released in 2013 and was not well received, criticised for its bonnet and windscreen pillars in particular.
Fans have thus been asking for a new minifigure-scale DeLorean Time Machine for several years and Speed Champions has finally obliged! The press release follows:
77256 Time Machine from Back to the Future
357 pieces, rated 9+
$27.99 / £22.99 / €27.99
Available at LEGO.com from 1st January 2026
LEGO Speed Champions Time Machine from Back to the Future (77256) model car kit lets kids aged 9 and over build, display and recreate action from the iconic movie franchise. This brick-built toy car includes many of the famous details from the model seen in the popular movies.
Build this iconic car with a lightning rod and California number plate from the first movie before rebuilding it into its flying version from the second movie with Mr. Fusion, an orange number plate and sideways wheels.
Both versions have rear air vents, a cockpit, the flux capacitor and time calculator. For added play value, the play set also comes with two minifigure characters from the movies: Doc Brown and Marty McFly to place inside the cockpit.
Though not completely flawless, I think this set represents a huge improvement on 21103 The DeLorean Time Machine. The shape is much more accurate, there is ample space for Doc and Marty inside and the bonnet is now appropriately smooth.
What do you think of the new DeLorean? Let us know in the comments.

Here before the "DeLorean is the new Slave 1 / Black Pearl"
Speed Champions proving once again why it's the best theme currently.
Nooooo I wanted Captain Emmett Brown's Time Machine Pirate Starship!!!!
Edit: is that a separate vest piece for Marty?
Haha forget the fish tank, THIS is the news for today
Looks almost ludicrously good, but how many stickers are there?
If the decoration on the front bumper and across the back are stickers they are going to be a nightmare to line up properly.
I understand renaming the Black Pearl for search engine optimization, but have no idea what the thinking was here
Possible set of the year contender for 2026 already. LEGO Speed Champions continues to cook.
This looks so good, and is long overdue! Will be a rare Day One purchase alongside the next modular building.
How does the System-sized Delorean look better than all previous larger Deloreans? (Yes, it's the new windscreen and roof piece, got it.)
And Marty has a new life preserver piece. Wow.
I literally lol'd at the set name.
Between this and Lightning McQueen, I love that Speed Champions is branching out. Hope to see more pop-culture vehicles in the future!
Now that looks awesome. Also looks like it has a fairly high amount of printed parts too.

Agreed. I assume there is a licensing reason they cannot use 'DeLorean' in the set name, but 'Back to the Future Time Machine' would surely have been fine.
Such a vast improvement over the old one. Looks amazing, and includes BOTH figures at the regular Speed Champions price!?
Between this, Lightning, and recent sets, keep doing what you’re doing SC designers.
I would love an Ecto-1 too :)
I had high hopes for this one. I’m a bit disappointed.
It really needs a new windscreen to allow opening doors, the overall shaping isn’t bad, but there are some not great spots.
Is it the best minifig scale DeLorean we’ve ever gotten?
Yes. The Ideas set is really bad.
Does it need a lot of mods to make it better?
I personally think so.
Will I buy it day one?
You better believe it!

Yes it is a separate vest piece for Marty. I believe it was used for cooper in Lego dreamzz before this.
Otherwise I to was looking forward to Captain Emmett Brown’s Time Machine Space Pirate Ship.

It's the one introduced in last year's Dreamzzz sets! I'd already seen some people customizing their BttF figs with that so it's a good choice.

I think maybe most people today might not know the name "DeLorean"? There was only ever one car model produced 40 years ago and its main claim to fame is BttF... But also you'd expect the licensors to require the name include the brand.
I wonder if this is one of those cases where the set has three different names depending where you look lol.
Looks pretty cool, gonna get it, however...
It's pretty funny that after so many builders struggling to put gullwing doors into a car this size, and their own so-so attempt in 2013, Lego foregoes them entirely. Probably the right call though, I haven't seen an elegant way to make it work.
Obligatory "Great Scott!" comment.

I don’t believe it’s a licensing issue as it says “DMC” on the front and “ DeLorean “ on the back…
Instant buy :)

The life preserver / jacket is from Dreamzzz. I got some myself specifically to put on my Marty minifigs.
Sometimes I wonder if Lego even tries on their face print choices

Basically, you want the Time Cruisers theme to come back.
In for three, who's with me?
Looks good but bloody stickers!!
Sets nobody care/want at all = full printed
Sets that can potentially become best seller = 800000000 stickers
Seriously, Lego stop now with this

Yes. It's available already ;)
I have zero interest in Speed Champions, but I'll happily shell out for this set. I might make a diorama of it crashing into my copy of 21304, let the time-travelers work it out among themselves.
I never got around to picking up the original. Why would I? The thing looks awful.
Sticker Champions — at its best
A licensed set from a movie that's not ridiculously expensive? That's a pleasant surprise.
it's impossible to get it right at minifigure scale, mostly because minifig proportions do not sit well with the car shape. I tried several adjustments on the Cusoo one and seen dozens on variations on the internet. No one gets close enough, not even this new one. Has some improvements and some things which i liked better in the old one...time to open the car repair shop again!
Good to have an improved Doc torso :)
(PS on the cons: you cant do the BTTF III one!)
88mph of fun!
Finally a great looking DeLorean I have display space for!
It’s a pity we couldn’t get a BTTF 3 version, but I suppose they had to draw the line somewhere.
Perfect! Getting this to build it, swoosh it, and then take it apart to create a 6 wide DeLorean. No have the right windscreen and wheel covers, plus the right stickers for it. And its funny how all of the DeLoreans do not look wedgy at all. Just flat.
can we now have speed champions scale blue VW transporter with generic tourist (not libyians)
Do y'all realise just for HOW LONG have we all been waiting for this????? A Speed Champions scale Deloarian???? Sounds like a dream came true.

I’d be willing to bet that all the trans light blue pieces are printed…
Looks great. I really like the trans blue pieces, and the new piece for Marty’s vest is great. I was really hoping this would have old west Doc and Marty figures from Part III but this is still a good set.
I’m really liking this and the Batmobile sets just revealed. Proper vehicles at minifigure scale. Keep them coming!
I miss the opening seagull doors, but otherwise this set has improved upon the original in pretty much every conceivable way! The shaping is far better and if that 1x3 slope piece at the front is printed, I imagine it will be highly desired.
I'm curious about the use of the DMC [DeLorean Motor Company] logo on the front, the DeLorean sticker on the rear, without the DeLorean name on the box. So I can't actually have a proper, non-time-machine DeLorean: is that the point?
I strongly dislike the curved front bumper - in my recollection, the DeLorean was the antithesis of curves... the overall "stumpy" look and the weirdly non-slanted bonnet, plus the terrible finish above the front wheels, that's just plain wrong.
Being better than the previous version is not the same as being "good", or even "just right". Admittedly, it is a difficult car for this scale, so props for the effort.

Dr. Everett Von Scott...
Oops... wrong film!
It looks good but the gull wing doors are what I’ve been chasing.
I just hope they misspell 'capacitor' as 'capaciter' on the Flux Capacitor tile again...
Excellent... 100% run of must have Speed Champions showing no signs of abating!
Release date 1st Jan 2026!!!???!!!
Would've been an ideal Christmas present for my kids to get me.
Why not just call it Doc's Time Machine, or Doc's Browns Time Machine?
I had 21103 back in the day when it came out, and it was truly awful. Didn't look very good and was super fragile. This set looks better in every way and is a reasonable price. This and the Speed Champions Lightning McQueen may be my two my most anticipated sets and I'm not even a Lego car guy!

I don’t believe it’s a licensing issue as it says “DMC” on the front and “ DeLorean “ on the back…"
Licensing reasons don't just mean "we couldn't get a license (from whoever owns the DMC brand now) for this." They also include "the licensor (Universal) wants it this way for whatever reason." In this case, a lot of toys/models of this vehicle *don't* have the DMC branding, so potential reasons might be standardization (call it the same thing they've been calling it even though they actually got a license from DMC this time) or a desire to emphasize "it's the cool thing from the movie" over "it's the car from a defunct manufacturer that was widely known as a piece of garbage."
New 3- (and i think 4-) wide cheese slope parts spotted.
That's a huge improvement over the first attempt. Pleasantly surprised to see both Doc & Marty without a price rise.
I’m going to buy two and figure out some way to make it ride on train tracks…even if the train wheels end up being set in a bit too deep.
That head print doesn’t look anything like Michael J. Fox.
Can LEGO stop using that young Han Solo face in everything??
This looks great. Hope they continue the movie car hero sets. Would love a SC scale Ecto-1, Mad Max Interceptor, etc!
Now this is priceless appropriately.
I am apparently reading this in my Toyota cockpit.
Sorry, Captain Yellowcastle’s Driving Machine cockpit.
I only found out yesterday that were making this... Looks like a fun set and the stickering doesn't look too bad (the transparent blue pieces seem to be printed).
After the disappointment of the cartoon SC car I'm glad they are making a 'real' one again.
Still no train wheel / track - compatible version of the DeLorean! Justice for BTTF part 3 fans!
losing the iconic Gull Wing doors that the old one had (even if they were very fragile) is a blow
Stickers, schmickers, this is a day one for me.
I love it! There should be a pool for sets like these, not just for larger ones. I'm getting this day one!

I really can't tell if the trans blue pieces are stickers or not. Usually I can see the raised bit like the DMC sticker on the front and Delorean on the back, and I can't here, but it would SUCK if the blue parts are stickered. If not, this is a great deal.
The part that makes me think it's not stickers is that the printing goes closer to the edge than stickers ever do.
LEGO managed to do it: one hit (Speed Campions Delorean, "Shut up and take my money!") and one miss ( Aquarium, "Who asked for this? Thanks but no thanks!") revealed on the same day.
First time in a long time I've said "I need to buy that."
Wow......just last week I saw the big Icons version at a discount, and once again considered buying it. It's a aset I would want to love, but just a few flaws too many to do so, even more so considering the price. This one sure isn't perfect either (I already hate those stickers....), and obviously is lacking the iconic doors, but at this price point that's a lot easier to stomach....and mostly surprised they included two minifigs without using that as a excuse to one again raise the SC price point.
As for the comparison with the old one........clearly not everything used to be better :-)
Crossing my fingers for the mystery machine (even though I'm fortunate enough to have 75902 and Daphne and Velma)
Looks wonderful, more prints than you might think. All those transparent blue pieces? Those are prints in my eyes. Same goes for the wheel caps, the dish in the back, the flux capacitor and more.
HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! Sure it looks pretty and gives us a better shape, but it’s missing one thing that really makes a Delorean different!
GULLWING DOORS! They could have used a clip piece!
Also I want the hoverboard from Dimensions!
SMH YEAH I’ll still buy it though lol

I can see 7 stickers so far: DMC on front, 2x on each side, Delorean on the back, and Plutonium inside. May be others, but under 10 would be a miracle for SC lol.
Great Scott! I want this!
Well, guess I'm taking 21103 off of my wanted list and putting this on. I *really* need to watch those movies. Side note: Wouldn't it be funny if 21103 got chosen as RSotD soon?

You’re probably right — those pieces do look printed.
Great Scott! I love it! Instantly on my to buy list.
Okay, it has quite a few stickers, but at that low price its acceptable. And its not got the gullwings, but at least they've bothered with a properly printed canopy. Only other minor flaw is not having the 1955/1885 giant circuit board and wheels, but the hook and the hover conversion are very welcome.
I don't think the name thing is surprising. It clearly isn't a stock DMC-12 DeLorean.
amazing set
how is this a 'build together' set? one person builds the car and the other person the minifigs?
Wonder if we will get a part 3 version. We need th western versions still.
Love it! Min1 purchase.
Would still prefer it if they made a ‘Speed Champions Movies’ category to separate the movie cars from the RL ones.
Don’t know why that bugs me, but it really does!

When are we going to get a Time Machine From The Movie "The Time Machine" Based On The Novel "The Time Machine" set?
To be honest, expected more from the Speed Champions designer team, especially since they've done such a good job with Lightning McQueen =(
The bodywork shape turned out fundamentally wrong because of excessive slope usage, 10300 was perfectly fine with its flat sides in much larger scale, what was the need to imitate a coke bottle styling on an 8-wide car? The weird chassis stance is another pet peeve - why don't just use a bigger rear wheel to achieve the same "high rake" effect...
Not really an excuse that it's better than 21103 - it's been twelve years since then, of course it would be better.

Have been wanting this set since it was announced. Really pleased to see how they did it! Will definitely be buying this one.
Perfect evidence of Speed Champions returning to its glory after the F1 abominations!
I missed the IDEAS DeLorean, I will not miss this one
The wrong that was 21103 has finally been righted! Might have to pickup multiple of these. I was really hoping we'd be able to build a BTTF3 version and have Doc & Marty in their western garb, but still stoked for this.
Echoing everyone's excitement - even for someone who is almost exclusively Castle this set is worth it.
This is surprisingly good value, especially considering the price tag of the first Ideas one 12 years ago.
I would have gone for $5 more expensive but all the trans-blue parts printed. It will be a freaking nightmare to get all these stickers properly aligned.
Bet someone will mod it asap to the bttf3 version

On the other hand, considering the poor tolerances with Lego prints that might only make the problem worse....if only they would use the same method many other brands use to preassemble the pieces and print them as one, with perfectly matching edge-to-edge prints.
That said, on closer inspection I'm not sure if those are even stickers to begin with. The other ones are all pretty obvious, but with these pieces I just can't tell for sure. Honestly hard to imagine getting this many prints....

It’s technically only 3 “prints” since there’s multiple of each type. At least that’s how LEGO sees it…
So much better than the original Ideas set, particularly as this has a windscreen.
FINALLY! I WILL BUY IT IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!
My only concern is the print for the windshield won’t be the same colour as the bricks
I had forgotten just how primitive 21103 was. This looks amazing--I expect nothing less from Speed Champions. Who knew 10 years ago that "those little cars" would end up becoming a favorite theme?

Would be 4 then: 1x1 and 1x2 tiles, curved tile and curved slope.
Add in also the windshield, the wheels, the Mr. Fusion, that dish on the back and maybe the flux capacitor, and that's quite the number of unique and probably not all that reusable prints, even more so for such a relatively cheap set.
I bet SW fans are already hoping for a SC version of the Death Pancake ;-)

My guess is that's the way Universal wants it. HotWheels/Mattel has the DMC license but all the BTTF models I've purchased over the years are named Time Machines and not DeLoreans. Their non-BTTF DeLorean models carry the DMC name.

That's one car LEGO isn't gonna touch - not now, not ever - and for very good reasons. We are not going into said reasons why. Just because some LEGO is 18+ and says 'Adults welcome', doesn't meant they are doing adult-orientated things. 18+ sets are just marketing push ONLY - they are nothing like TV / movie ratings!
Incredible, especially for the very decent price. Might actually get at full retail.
I love it and want one. I am sure someone will come up with both the electronics box on the hood and the variant for the train tracks from the end of BTTF3
Gull… gull… gull?
It’s incredible what Lego will make ‘solution’ parts for and what they won’t :D but it looks amazing. If I want better I’d better build it.
Pardon me though when I cram those awful doom-stickers in to Mr Fusion.
As nobody else seems to have brought it up, I will: why are there two noticeable gaps to the front-left and front-right of the new windscreen piece?
So the second minifigure is to compensate for the lack of one in the Lightning McQueen set or what? How about reflecting it in the prices instead LEGO?! This just proves that the retail prices are totally arbitrary and don't reflect actual production, licensing costs or part count. Let me guess, 2027 SC sets will just cost 30 bucks to make a round, even number.
The DeLorean looks alright even without the foldable wheels and gull-wing doors, that somehow were possible in the Cuusoo version in 2013, but not possible now.
I like it but wish it came with the pieces to put the BTTF3 car
DAY 1
(too many stickers... I probably don't put even 90 % of them)
It's about time.
I built my own Clocktower and smaller Delorean years ago for a LUG show. I was quite happy with my scale and piece usage on my version. Clearly this one looks better thanks to stickers/prints/new molded pieces. I will likely pick it up, but I will wait for a sale considering the price creep on everything is too much to ever purchase at MSRP anymore.

I’ve heard the DeLorean estate has gotten litigious over the fact that so much BttF merch features _that_car_, and they haven’t been getting a piece of the pie, but I believe the studio won on the grounds that they did get permission to use the likeness without restriction or some such. And it’s not just this set, either. I just pulled out a Hot Wheels version from 2021 that’s called “Back to the Future Time Machine - Hover Mode”. The only DMC branding I can find anywhere is the logo on the grille of the die-cast toy, and the matching logo on the grille of the image on the card. There’s no copyright info pointing at DMC anywhere. Now, Hot Wheels has separately released a stock DMC DeLorean, so it’s not an issue of being unable to obtain the rights to the car itself, but being unable to market the modified BttF version using the DeLorean name.
Weird turn from the time when John DeLorean sent The Bobs thank you letters for including the car in their films, and DMC sold conversion kits that let people turn their stock DeLoreans into BttF replicas.
