Nice, this will look great next to the red five x-wing I'm sure!
So far the rumored list of LEGO exclusives in 2015 has been accurate. The Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart set is next to be revealed :) I'm also excited for the Creator Expert Ferrari F40 as well as the Ferris Wheel.
Amazing! I want this way more than Slave 1. I had no idea that this was coming, were there rumours before? Such a nice surprise! :D
@LukeSkywalker There you go http://www.groovebricks.com/lego-2015-exclusive-sets-list-helicarrier-kiwk-e-mart-hoth/
Not sure it's worth £170 IMO.
Somehow I doubt they'll be receiving an Oscar for that performance.
nope, not interested. already have 9492, and I'm pretty satisfied with that. but they had the chance to put an exclusive figure in it like Vilian Dance or Soontir Fel and they didn't. Still, it's for displaying and UCS fans will of course enjoy it. that's what's really important. :)
But on a related note- how much? $200 currently converts to £129 +VAT = £155. (Not to mention inflation is now practically 0% and oil costs half as much as it did six months ago).
I think the lack of bulk makes it look poor value, especially compared to Slave 1 for the same price.
The sheer size of it doesn't come through at all in the publicity photos - it looks huge in the designer video.
Nice!
Looks nearly identical- in the wing area at least- to the last TIE released. Even the size looks similar...?
Olav has done a wonderful job but this will be a pass for me, simply because their are other upcoming and current sets that interest me. Plus now my focus is to build MOC's.
Looks pretty good, though at the same price as Slave I for 300 fewer pieces it's a little disappointing.
Also, surely the designers of the set can get the stickers on straight? That one in the close up below the cockpit is atrociously wonky!
(My biggest problem is, if I get this I'll need the X-Wing to go with it... I didn't want to get into the UCS stuff. Darn you, Slave I!!!)
Nice model. Although at this price point they should not do stickers. Ironically it looks to me like in the video they did not manage to apply one properly aligned just below the cockpit.
LEGO have great graphic designers and know how to make something look 10x cooler on the box!
I suppose this looks decent, but no better than 9492 in my opinion. The size is impressive but the cockpit sphere is not very well done and the minifigure is not much of an incentive to make the purchase.
Still, I am a slave to UCS sets so will purchase it.
@Ephseb - who and who?? I had to look those characters up on in the Star Wars wiki to see who they were. I can't see LEGO ever including characters based primarily in the extended universe novels in a UCS set, rather than well-known iconic characters such as the more appropriate TIE pilot.
I'm amazed that the wings don't attach using any technic, really looking forward to putting this one together, it looks HUGE!
One word - Wonderful!
But this is a bit pricey for me. Oh well...
All the same, this really is a glorious interpretation of the TIE Fighter. If I had the money, this would be an instant buy.
I find the designers' on-screen presence strangely compelling
Thanks @Emmi! I had no idea a UCS Hoth Echo Base was on its way too, yikes is that 3 Star Wars UCS models this year?! I thought it's usually a max of 2? Oh my wallet can't take this anymore...
It's a great model, and I love the rotating stand, but I am very happy with my 9492 TIE Fighter (which had better minifigures, in fact...)
I'm actually glad this didn't come with anything more appealing in regards to minifigures, as now I can save my $300AUD for something else (probably the Helicarrier...)
So many tiny stickers - even Lego designs can't place them perfectly - especially the ones under cockpit and beside wing
http://burkie.com/lego/stickers.png
Does anybody know if it is minifigure scale?
I hate stickers ... I'm willing to pay a little more if LEGO does printed pieces only instead of all the awful stickers in the future. It's dream thinking though :(

If ever there was an argument for a "like" button in the comments section then this is it!
Pass. It's nice but nothing too exciting about it. Even their announcement video is bland. I'll save that $200 to spend somewhere else in the Lego universe. Red 5 / Slave I - much better UCS models.
That looks very good, considering they haven't used a specially printed 10x10x4 cockpit as they did in 7181 and 10175.
Looks like another UCS TIE for the collection!
Agreed this didn't need a UCS treatment but I guess they wanted it to complete an updated collection of three iconic ships in Star Wars. Now we need a new UCS Millennium Falcon with a movie tie-in for Episode VII's release date, which should surpass the Taj Mahal piece count!
I'll save that $200 for the Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart. More appealing to me.
Nice to see they have the wings to scale - I'l take 2 please!
Now I have had a chance to see the video I am amazed. I would love to speak with whoever saw that video and approved it. They obviously have a great sense of humour.
The look to camera at 2:44 is absolutely fantastic and pretty much everything Olav says is hilarious. By far the best designer video they have ever produced.
As usual we get ripped off in the UK and why the same price as the Slave, with few pieces too.
Holy cow that thing is HUGE!!! I'd be sorely tempted to get this if I weren't locked in to Slave-1. Love that technique to attach the panels. That's pretty sweet.

@DrDaveWatford ^ "If ever there was an argument for a "like" button in the comments section then this is it!"
Agreed! I love this comment too :D Lets start a petition on the forum. :)
What does the designer mean when he says that the pilot is customised?
I apologize if I missed it, but did they give a release date for this set? I'm hoping it's May 1st.
At last!
Allways wondered why there was the Tie Interceptor at first, i think it's much less iconic than the standard Tie. Vaders Tie was ok, it is featured a lot in ep. IV but never understood why no Tie before 2015...
Anyways, a buy!
j.
PS
Stickers should be applied wet. Water with a drop of soap on the brick, place and adjust sticker, dry carefully with a cleanex.
@peterjohn0: It would make more sense to release it on May the Fourth.
@peterjohn0 at the toy fair the piece of paper that says what it is says may on it
@mkrey - agreed but last year wasn't the May 4th UCS Sandcrawler available starting May 2nd or 3rd to allow for purchases that entire weekend? My memory might be off but I think it was. This year the 4th falls on a Monday so I wouldn't be surprised if it was available in-store starting on the 2nd.
If it's the 4th then I guess I'll be going into work late that day ;-)
@T-mac this one, like the Red 5 X-wing, is definitely much larger than minifigure scale. 9492 was quite close to minifigure scale and this one looks to be nearly twice as large.
I seriously think it's hilarious that even THEY couldn't get the front sticker on right lol. Lego PLEASE listen to us and get rid of stickers especially on UCS sets!!
Apply stickers wet? Hadn't thought of that - great idea! And definately time for a 'like' button and maybe a 'reply' one too?
Jeez.....that Designer video was absolutely awful....
Most definitely a pass for me, but it's a great looking model. There's just no way I can afford it with everything else coming down the pipeline this year.
Hahahaha they can't put stickers on straight either! Stupid stickers.
Hmm. I have to agree with CapnRex, the cockpit sphere isn't very well done. It's too elongated left and right, and the front looks a bit like it flew into a wall (if the wings didn't get in the way, of course).
When I heard the rumor, I was wondering how you could make a TIE Fighter more detailed that the last 'normal' set. This one looks beautiful!
I might buy it, but I also heard a rumor about a new Imperial Shuttle set, so I've to wait until pics of that one are released to decided which one I'm gonna buy.
So the model has enough space for the minifig pilot in the cockpit?
Say, I'm definitely still thinking if I want to get this I need to snap up the UCS X-Wing quickly. This set seems minifigure scale with the handlebar for the figure to hold when it's in the cockpit.
Has anyone tried putting a minifigure in the X-Wing? If the seat's 3 studs wide has anyone put a jumper plate in and seen what a figure would look like in it?
If it looks good I'm scared my wallet might be suffering...
Well, I've just answered my own question in LDD, a minifigure can't be attached in the cockpit of Red 5, but boy does it look good sat in there!
Cue an internal discussion and wondering if I should sell my 9492 and two 9493s to make this not such a big hit...
awesome it will look great beside my super star destroyers
Another set to add to my "to get" list...
Lets see :
Star Wars - check
Original Trilogy : check
UCS : check
Lego : check
Overpriced : check
I'm buying it !
The wing attachment thing looks very clever indeed.
That was about the only thing that impressed me about this model, but then I am not a UCS-er, I find them overdone and less appealing than the regular models in almost every case.
This set looks fantastic! The cockpit looks a little blocky to me but I guess it's very difficult to get a rounded shape on a ship like this, but still looks great, awesome job by the designers! I will definitely be adding this set to my collection. It'll look great next to the B-wing and X-wing!
Over-priced for sure but I will probably end up getting it.
Shame the UCS models shake so much on the stands though - a little irritating.
And I thought the same thing about the sticker.
If you are going to spend £170 then I think some care should be taken with the stickers.
And for a showcase video, this is even more important.
Better still, ditch the stickers!!!
Definitely must buy.
Does this look like the same scale as the Red Five?
Not a great fan of the area around the cockpit window. It's too distracting and should be smoother.
Darn, was hoping for an A-Wing some day, but of course this has been a long time coming. Maybe next year I can complete my alphabet fighter collection :)
This does look very nice, but agree with comments that it looks a little stretched and squashed in the cockpit. I also gotta give credit to 9492 which is still an excellent model!
It looks fantastic, but $200? That's too much.
Is the TIE fighter itself 18.5 inches high, or is that the height on stand? Anyone know?
A $200 UCS set should have not come with any stickers
Very nice. I'll be getting one... when it's £120
Looks not very impressive( I am disappointed by this set
not really ucs. it is more like a big minifigursize tie fighter. not same scale like x wing and b wing
