SDCC All New Captain America (Sam Wilson) exclusive minifigure
Posted by CapnRex101,
Exclusive Super Heroes minifigures are par for the course at San Diego Comic Con each year and the first to be revealed for 2015 is the All New Captain America. This figure, revealed by USA Today, is based on his appearance during the Secret Wars comic book series which was released earlier this year, in which Sam Wilson takes up the mantle of Captain America.
It looks to be accurate to the comics and will certainly be one I am hoping to pick up, although as ever the limited release might make that difficult. The raffle is reportedly being run in the same fashion as last year, so presumably LEGO believe they have finally found the fairest possible way to distribute these incredibly popular minifigures.
You can view another shot of the figure outside the clamshell packaging after the break...
I look forward to seeing what else LEGO offers this year. Personally I have my fingers crossed for an obscure Batman villain.

Looks great, hopefully they make a normal set with him in it.
can someone explain to me how the raffle works? this is my first year attending sdcc and am hoping to win one (even though the chances are slim)
thanks
Fig is Great but Sam Wilson is Captain America since last Sepember. Secret Wars started last month.
Whew, won't mind not having him.
I guess it's good to know what the Chinese knock-off companies will be selling on Ebay in six months.
Needed arm or leg print in my view - when we have figures like Carnage then I question why an exclusive figure has less detail. In addition, where are his wings? Definitely is not a figure I am interested in getting, mostly because I tend to focus on the movie-verse figures when it comes to the Marvel line.
Probably would have been a better idea to do a Captain America; The Winter Soldier version of Falcon, then we could have got a slightly altered version for Civil War. Feel it would have been a better choice.
I WANT THAT!!! but I like the MCU better maybe we would get a Winter Soldier Captain America which WOULD BE BADASS. Also waiting for crossbones and the new Avengers Falcon. Also we might be getting an MCU version of this in avengers 3
Thank God, i dont mind not having Captain Falcmerica one bit.
This isn't so bad. We have a Falcon, just not in this print, so for all of us who don't get it, at least we have a Sam Wilson figure somewhere.
Well, finally an exclusive that I actually want. Hard to imagine this figure getting a wider set release considering the source material association. I expect that we will see a film universe Falcon by the time Avengers 3 releases.
But I would really like to have this one. My hope would be for it to get Winter Soldier treatment, because Comic Con exclusivity is a shame.
Shucks, I'm in the camp who wants this too. I was hoping to get more esoteric exclusives I wouldn't care about.
Sheesh....when will Lego just knock it off with these extremely limited minfigs? It's just ridiculous.
Count me in the group of people pissed at the extreme limited availability of this exclusive. They can partially make it up to me by giving me a Falcon minifig based on Captain America: Civil War next year. I was fine with them doing the Star Wars mini-builds that could be parted out pretty simply.
Marvel should make a Secret Wars movie. :)
I was really hoping they'd make this particular figure in a set (and a new Thor would have been cool)but now that pretty much confirms that's not going to happen. I guess I'll have to settle for Sam Wilson as the Falcon unless I can find a good deal online, and I doubt they'd make an mcu version of this since my bets on winter soldier taking up the mantle for Captain America. But I guess only time will tell.
Sir Gareth on Eurobricks has stated that the DC exclusive will be Roy Harper from Arrow.
The fairest possible way to distribute these incredibly popular minifigures is to put them on general sale, not hold a raffle for the chance to buy one (assuming that you can even get to SDCC in the first place). Very disappointed that LEGO does this to its loyal customers, without whom they wouldn't have a business in the first place.
Bah!
I was just going to say what deephorse said.
It is ridiculous that LEGO keeps following this path of making exclusive minifigs just to line the pockets of the few lucky people that get them. None (or very few) of these will ever end up in a child's hand to be played with. I though LEGO was dedicated to making kids toys, not uber-rare collectibles.
I've been going to SDCC for over 10 years now (my company has a booth there). I won't be there this year. But this is how it works. There are typically 3 different LEGO specials going on:
1). Booth ticket purchases. Each day, the booth will give away about 200 tickets for items to purchase. This year it is the Ultron throne and the Dagobah miniature scene. You must *immediately* go to the booth when the doors open and the first 200 get a ticket. You can then visit the store at any point during the day and hand them your ticket to then purchase your exclusive for $40.00. Don't get excited though because even if you run directly to the booth you will not get a ticket. Typically, exhibitors line up before the show starts to grab the tickets before the public can. They won't give tickets to exhibitors, but most exhibitors also have a pro-reg or regular badge they can use.
2). Exclusive miniatures. (Like Captain America above) Each day you have the opportunity to get a figure for FREE. They typically have 4 different minifigs (usually about 1000-2000 of each for the entire show). You have to line up outside and the giveaway starts at 3:00 or so. The line will start forming about 4 hours ahead of time so get there early and bring a sunshade, some water, and something to do; because its outside. As you get to the front of the line, they scan your badge and you can push a button. The button randomly gives you a thumbs up or a sorry message and someone will hand you the figure if you win it. You can only try once per badge per day, but you can attempt to win each of the figures offered per day. (Sucks to wait in line for 3 hours only to not win)
3). Random giveaways and other exclusives. Seems like each year some of the employees will have additional freebies they will randomly hand to people visiting the booth. Other exclusives can sometimes be purchased from the store. Recent examples are the Azog figure and signed posters and comics.
@behemothjosh - Wow. That is so insane to hear described, especially considering that this is just one convention, at one place in the world, each year.
I made my piece with having to go without these awesome figures ever since Captain Marvel and Phoenix, a few years ago.
Still. Sad face. But I haven't read any stories with Sam as Captain America, so I'm good either way.
This is a awesome looking figure. I hate exclusives like this that everyone won't be able to get. Looks like I'll be looking for a knock off if Lego doesn't put this in a normal set.
Oh dear. That costume is ugly.
It is an interesting figure, but I never knew of this version. I guess I didn't even know Falcon's name was Sam Wilson...
I'd gladly take any of the exclusives, but ultimately I don't seek them out. Too expensive for me.
@deephorse: LEGO isn't doing any harm whatsoever to its loyal customers. If you aren't able to get the minifigure then you're no better or worse off than if it had never been released.
LEGO has shown quite well this year that if they have any intent of releasing a figure in sets, they will do so whether or not there was previously an exclusive version of that figure (both Green Lantern and Green Arrow were previously released as event-exclusive minifigures).
But of course, some figures that are released as event exclusives (like Batman of Zur-En-Arrh or black-suit Superman) are obscure enough that they were probably never on the short list to appear in sets in the first place. NOT releasing them as event exclusives wouldn't have improved their chances of appearing in regular sets.
Not releasing them would make collectors that can't get them happy and spare cash for actual Lego sets.
@BehemothJosh, Wow! That's unbeliavable. I thought anyone at the convention could simply walk up to any booth and buy any exclusive items they had. (With a limit of one per person or something like that)
Do all booths gie away their exclusives like that? If so, that completely takes away the incentive to go to the convention; I always thought you could get all kinds of great exclusives by going to the convention.
As far as this figure, I think I love the packaging more than the figure! :D
not that i care about these exclusives. life does not come to a standstill even if I don't have a few missing super heroes in my collection. I just think it's sad really that this mini fig will never get to come out of his clam shell because of his market value as a mint package. ^^
Kind of tired of people complaining about convention exclusives. If you flip it and you paid a lot to go to one of these conventions, wouldn't you want to get things that only you could get there? Wouldn't you be let down if the only LEGO products there would be one's you could find are the one's you can find at Target? Yeah you would. So stop complaining. Sorry you're not going to SDCC but chill out. These exclusives are cool but I won't be jumping on Ebay and paying insane prices for them. If you think it's unfair(which is silly)don't click on links like this one.
@1-2-3-4 There are a great many exclusives at SDCC from many companies that are limited in quantity and sell out almost immediately like LEGO. Attendance is astronomical, crowds are insane, lines are tedious and long and often do not guarantee stock. Obviously the most well known franchises like Blizzard, LEGO, Nintendo will sell out much faster then more obscure franchises. Plenty of other smaller companies (like The Behemoth I work for) will have exclusives that will be available pretty much as you described (just walk up anytime and buy without worry of long lines). If you really want to enjoy SDCC, you have to purge your mind of the idea that you will walk out with every exclusive. Just concentrate on the top few on your list; plan your attack; and try to enjoy the shows, booths, previews, demos, costumes, etc. If you see an item you want, buy it then because tomorrow it may be out of stock. Take a second look again on Sunday a couple hours before closing because many booths will start knocking prices off before they have to pack up (feel free to ask).
"Wouldn't you be let down if the only LEGO products there would be one's you could find are the one's you can find at Target? Yeah you would."
Uh, no. I wouldn't. I went to a convention once, found a stall selling Lego and bought a random, ordinary set that just happened to be something I wanted, and I felt perfectly pleased with my purchase, even though I could've gotten it from Target or K-mart the day before.
@Zordboy I don't believe you.
@Darthbricks ... I don't really care. It's the truth. I think the thing is, you might feel that way, but it's really unfair to criticise other people for that (when they don't feel the same way as you at all).
I can show you my credit card receipt if that'll help?
I heard someone refer to him as the "Captain Falcon Minifig" and thought that LEGO was making Super Smash Brothers. Dang.
