The final SDCC exclusive revealed
Posted by CapnRex101,
The final San Diego Comic-Con exclusive has been revealed at BZPower to be a trans-neon green Skull Scorpio mask. The mask is worn by 70793 Skull Basher and 70794 Skull Scorpio in the recently released Bionicle sets, although this is its first appearance in trans-neon green. Presumably this will be given away in clamshell packaging just like the exclusive Tahu mask released at New York Comic-Con last year.
This is slightly surprising news as many were expecting an exclusive based on Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, but I am sure Bionicle fans will welcome another exclusive to collect. If prices are anything like they were for last year's NYCC exclusive, this one probably won't be as expensive as the minifigures typically are.

I have the clear mask from last year NYCC, but only a numbered one from the special after party. They ran out at the booth before I could find it.
But I can't complain, free is free thanks to Brickset giving me a free ticket.
Woohoo! A free brick.
LOL! @Clone
I don't care much for exclusives, honestly. It IS a pretty cool mask, though.
I can pretty much hear the rabid screams of people who think that Lego is 'shorting them a minifigure'. I find this mask an interesting choice (I would have done a Transparent Yellow or GitD MoCr, for example), but it might make Scorpio look a bit better with more of the bright colors on him. Wonder if it is possibly in homage to the Miru released as a promo in 2001?
Perhaps Disney has imposed an embargo on all official Episode VII merchandise this far out from the release date. I think the only thing we've seen on any non-leaked merchandise photos so far is the new stormtrooper, which is a pretty minor reveal.
Very likely Disney is keeping a lid on things. Maybe the NYCC in October will show some more.
Surprising indeed, and it's the final nail in the coffin for me, thinking I would be able to have a complete collection of 2015 Bionicle. Well done LEGO, with this, the NYCC Hau and the Inside Tour Gali Mask, you have now made even doing that impossible. No point in me chasing the NYCC Hau now I guess :/
It's also quite funny how I emailed Brickset about this literally 2 minutes before this came up here! Talk about too late to the party :D
Strange we have yet to see an official preview of a Force Awakens set even though the film is out in just five months, whereas Dawn of Justice's release date is even further away.
^See the issue with the TS3 sets back in 2010 in the news archive.
Want.
This is the kind of thing that LEGO should sell at retail! I would love to buy packs of different masks. Too bad I'm not going.
Heh heh heh, nice one. "this one probably won't be as expensive as the minifigures typically are."
ZING!
@DanRSL I don't think it will be that expensive. LEGO fans and comic book fans will be after the Super Heroes figures. Bionicle fans only will be after this mask.
People collect Bionicle?
@DanRSL - Based on the aftermarket value of the exclusive Tahu mask we can assume that this will not be as popular as the Super Heroes minifigures with collectors, just as @123MrBrick mentioned. The price will reduce according to demand.
@123MrBrick and CapnRex101
No, I get it. I'm poking fun at Bionicle.
@DanRSL Oh. *Nervous laugh*
@123MrBrick Trust me, not just fans will be after that mask!
*some person on E-Bay* I have your mask right here... I will give you this masks.. for the right price that is...
*all the bidders start putting in crazy amounts of cash trying to get this one brick for their figure*
Remember when they used to retail random masks in polybags or boxes? How i miss those good old times.
That's actually pretty sweet. I was hoping it would be the Skull Spider mask, but whatever... it looks better than silver on Scorpio... and it doesn't improve that ugly unposeable mess much at all.

I'm glad to see Bionicle getting this kind of promotion alongside the usual promotion for the licensed themes, especially considering it's what saved the LEGO Group when their myopic reliance on licenses nearly killed them back in 2003. Bionicle may not be getting a lot of attention at SDCC, but Ninjago is, and themes like that certainly wouldn't exist if Bionicle hadn't paved the way and shown LEGO how to successfully create a pop culture hit of their own instead of simply piggybacking on the pop culture hits of others.
