So, what do you think? It's an impressive model, but is there a market for it? Given the high price it's clearly aimed primarily at AFOLs but are there many adult fans who'd drop that sort of cash on a Ninjago set?

WOO! I want this!
Amazing. If I have the money to get this, I'm in!
It has to be the greatest NinjaGo set ever. I just hope it isn't a "Grand Finale" to the theme. It looks like... the end. No evil monsters in this set.
If it is a "Grand Finale", it's a very good one.
I am so excited for this! Not only is it an epic design, but it comes with some fantastic minifigures and incredibly creative play features. All six Ninja, new versions of Wu and Dareth, and the first official figures of Misako and the postman! This set is definitely going on my wish list!
I'll buy it the minute it is released to VIPs!
The designer video (soon to be posted) shows that this is a massive display piece. I think many AFOLs will want this to display.
It's undoubtedly a spectacular model and it is certainly one I will be adding to my collection.
WANT. LOVE. MISAKO. POSTMAN. THANK YOU LEGO.
In all seriousness, it's beautiful.
this is amazing, better saving from now on
Looks good but I'm on my phone so can't see too well. Minifigures sound great, looks like a buy for me. However UK price is not good when you consider it same price as sea cow and much cheaper in usd or euro.
I would not drop any amount of money on Ninjago... This beautiful Japanese temple, free of mechas, stupid vehicles and characters, on the other hand...
I know nothing of Ninjago itself (though have picked up neat sets here and there), but I MUST have this set! There was clearly a desire for something like it after the Cuusoo Japanese Architecture models got so many votes. SO excited LEGO decided to make a set after all!
I will be purchasing at least one of these sets. Beyond spectacular. I hope to one day see a castle set done this way besides MMV and the joust.
Gorgeous!
I'm struggling a little to figure out who the target market is supposed to be - it's hard to see it selling in large numbers - but I'll certainly be getting this.
Generally the Ninjago theme doesn't really interest me ... but this is one very very nicely designed set :-O
I haven't been into the Ninjago theme at all; but this set is too stunning to pass up on.
I've been buying a lot of Lego from Amazon.de lately because it's way cheaper than UK prices (and free delivery if you're a UK prime member). Pity this one is Lego exclusive, because the Euro price is £25 cheaper.
Oh it's so great! Just got my son 70728 (Battle for Ninjago City) for his birthday. Well worth expanding/combining the two of them, but can I keep this a secret until Christmas.....? ACK!
Now, I don't hate Ninjago, in fact several of this years sets look really nice (especially Master Wus Dragon, what a beautiful head!) but this is a genuine surprise! I never expected a UCS style set to come out of Ninjago, I'm only disappointed I probably won't be able to afford this beauty!
If it was half therice and just the main tower building in the middle I'd have considered it, but far too many other sets I'd prefer in that price bracket.
This set is very underwhelming, we have been getting Ninjago sets for over three years the least they could have done is a full on detailed Temple like Arkham Asylum Breakout (10937) with a break form the normal retail sets to differentiate the two.
@DrDaveWatford
I think the target market is similar to that of the Medieval Market Village, Kingdoms Joust, and Haunted House. No crazy play features, just a nicely detailed model aimed at an older crowd.
Is this the grand finale for Ninjago the way MMV was for Castle, Joust was for Kingdoms, and Haunted House for Monster Fighters? Or will there be more Ninjago?
I haven't been into Ninjago since the Stone Army sets. The rebooted theme ruined it. This set is getting me back into Ninjago once more!!! :)
Was looking to get a Ninjago set, just so I had something from the theme - I think I've found it. Sometimes Lego really do outdo themselves. Absolutely stunning set.
Half the rice? Nice Freudian slip, Shib!
Oh my goodness that's fantastic!!
I love how the ninja glider "relic" is literally a Lego Ninja Relic (set 1187).
And finally we have Misako!! My only gripe is that the minifigures of Jesper and Claire are rather pointless. We could have gotten a hatless Ronin, Patty Keys (the real estate agent in the series), or even Cyrus Borg just for fun!
I can't hate this set though. It looks fantastic.
I doubt this will sell well. A few AFOLs who watch the show or want it for MOCs, a few kids who wear down their parents to get it for them. Easy pass.
MAILMAN!!
Am I the only one seeing two Coles? But really, the set looks great
@mooslug: No, certainly not a grand finale, since there's a Ninjago movie happening in 2017 and there will certainly be sets to tie in with that. Plus, with as big as Ninjago's gotten this year (it's pretty much on par with City and Friends in terms of total number of sets), I can't see there not being any Ninjago sets for next year.
Anyway, I am super impressed with this set! Not only is it a beautiful build packed with amazing details, but it's got a fantastic selection of minifigures and even ties in with the TV show. I got a real giggle out of the Ninjago trading cards!
WOW!
BREATHTAKING! Chock full of detail and realism! I just may buy this one!
Stunning. It doesn't mesh with my current collection themes but it is too beautiful to pass up. Looks like it will be an absolute joy to build.
CHRISTMAS COME TO ME NOW
Oh my that's nice. I'm tempted to pick up some of the temples etc that are still around to start building up Ninjago City.
I like the set, and will be getting it, but I wish that this Temple of Airjitsu reflected the Haunted Temple in the show of which this set was based on (can we please get ghost Cole). Also, shouldn't we have gotten the Tomb of the First Spinjitsu Master instead?
I must get this! As a fan of Ninjago that has seen every single episode of the TV show, I'm glad to see so many characters from the show finally being made as minifigures! But even with that aside, it's still a spectacular set! August 18th cannot come soon enough!
Nice pricing also, decently on my watch list.
@primetime637: The tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master is already depicted in 70736 Attack of the Morro Dragon.
Nice! reminds me of the 2012(?) haunted house!
Even though i am a devoted Pirates fan, all i can say for this set is...
Absolute stunning beauty! One for my collection and 3 for paaaaaaart draft!
Does anyone else count 13 minifigs in the photo, not 12?
ARGH..... I only want Misako :-:
I can't find a fault in this set. Truly breathtaking, and definitely my 1 buy of the upcoming wave
Many many many parents will buy this set for their children without a second thought.
Which explains what is wrong with the world very simply.
Don't usually follow the Ninjago theme, but the waves this year have been pretty impressive (in particular the Boulder Blaster and ElectroMech). And we haven't really seen anything quite like this since the Flying Ninja Fortress of 1998. Just an excellent diorama piece all around.
Definitely want this!
Oh my goodness, that is stunning. I must have it. Over the years I've picked up quite a few Ninjago sets, mainly the buildings as I love the Japanese style of architecture.
I've been anticipating pics of this for ages and I am not disappointed. Beautiful, beautiful set.
Well this set certainly changed my plans for buys in August. It just ousted everything else for the top spot. Better start saving!
It looks like my city may have to have a historical East Asian district now.
HOLY %$@! That's the most amazing Ninjago set I've ever seen!
EDIT: Upon closer examination, why does that picture have two Coles in it?!
Not a Ninjago collector but this looks great. Goodbye Ferrari, I would have bought you but now I need the money for this baby.
Wow this is a spectacular set! As mentioned by other people it is never my first choise to go for Ninjago, but this set is stunning! I am looking forward to it!
@mooslug Ninjago is an "evergreen" theme, so there will be new sets every year.
@The Green Brick Giant: If parents buying kids a $200 set is "what is wrong with the world", then something's been wrong with the world for a long time. The original Black Seas Barracuda was priced at $110 in 1989, which is $213 in today's money. Are you telling me that something was "wrong" with parents who bought that set (which had less than half the pieces of this set) for their kids back in the day?
@PicnicBasketSam: Just an error. The pictures on the box only show one Cole minifigure. I remember a similar issue at one point with a LEGO Star Wars set where the out-of-box pic accidentally showed two Lukes.
It's a cool set but I'm not gonne drop € 200 for a theme that I don't collect.
This looks really great. I've been waiting for pictures of this set for some time and its very different to what I imagined (I thought just one big temple) but I love the other buildings and bridge in this. Looking forward to getting it. I love the Ninjago theme - there are some great buildings, gorgeous minifigures and lovely dragons.
There are two Coles in the picture (one near Zane and the other pulling a cart) - as mentioned, its not the first time these types of images are inaccurate.
@Primetime637:
There is a ghost Cole. He's either fighting Zane or pulling the fireworks cart! Not sure which one though...
Absolute Classic, even before it is released.
I will be needing several of these.
@ Aegis2000:
Nope, that's just an error. Both Coles are exactly the same, and there is only one in the set.
This set is just amazing!
Wow! It looks like it has more pieces that it says it'll come with. I've only bought one Ninjago set (the old samurai mech) and it was really good. If I wasn't already tied up in the UCS Slave 1, I would definitely consider this!
This looks beautiful for a LEGO set! I won't be getting it, but those sand green flower stalks excite me. They'll be expensive on Bricklink though...
WOW! What a cool set. I love it. My wallet is already hurting. October can't soon enough (yes I'm VIP, but I want the double points). I really like the video with two Lego team members. It's much more engaging.
I know I've said this by every new released set this year, but this is a year wit verry much 1000+ pieces sets. almost every theme have got a new biggest set, and i think this is the year with the most pieces
This is not even a typical Ninjago set. I mean take away the figs and you have a Creator Expert Oriental building scene. The labeling on the box shouldn't blind you if you don't collect the theme or dislike it because it is for children.
This is a full-blown AFOL set aimed at us, period. Figs are just extra. I would buy this for $200 even with 0 figs. It is just that great of a design. LEGO clearly knew what they had to do.
Wow. Just wow. I want this so much, but as a KFOL don't know how I'm going to get it. Probably going to have to combine all of my holiday gifts to get it.
So that is where the olive grass stalks are coming from (found some on bricklink the other day but they weren't listed as being in any set). Definitely going to be picking up this set. Such a fantastic looking model.
Yes ... need this set ... Justification - two boys and within spitting distance of Christmas!
Clearly a fantastic set! Definitely on my list. Meant for both kids and AFOLs. A great set for a great theme that has surpassed many themes over the past few years. And, in my opinion, close to surpassing even Bionicle in terms of endurance and popularity. Not to mention a fun show, albeit a little silly at times. But its LEGO, so what's to be expected? Honestly, in my opinion, some of the better unlicensed sets from the past few years and beyond have been from Ninjago. And this set is clearly one of them. A brilliant fig assortment for fans of the show and great buildings for everyone else. Everyone wins with this one.
Can someone please explain who the post officer is?
:D I am SO EXCITED!!! Misako! And Dareth! And the Postman! And on top of the great minifigures, the actual set itself is awesome.
Gives me a kind of 10193 Medieval Market Village vibe, but in an Asian architecture style. Very nice, especially since you could just get rid of all the Ninjago aspects of it and just have it be a medieval Japanese village.
Finally! Olive Grass Stems!!!
If I had the money, I'd definitely get this!!
Not normally into Ninjago, but this set looks fantastic.
However, at 199 US, I hate to think what the Aussie price will be...
The Postman is a guy seen in lots of Ninjago episodes, though he isn't really a character. There's a running joke where he has to do something hard to deliver mail (like climbing The Mountain of a Million Steps) only to find that whoever is there doesn't need mail after all.
I love how this set isn't just a bunch of separate builds on baseplates; its actually got details and all three buildings have parts to connect them to the others, though not by actual studs. Add Ninjago, tons of details, play features, and great overall looks to that and this set is a definite sell!
BTW, does anyone know what episode this is from? I feel like it's Sensei Yang's dojo from The Temple on Haunted Hill. Either way, this set is great.
@8BrickMario:
That was a joke. It's like in a photo when the figure doubles, hence a "ghost".
I've only recently gotten into Ninjago, being in my dark ages during their first years, and the reboot with robots was just... not for me. Abut the two latest lines have been fantastic, and this is the icing on top!
I always find it weird in designers videos the sort of goof ups they have... no horrendously crooked stickers this time, but the golden knives in the chest in the smugglers market were still attached by their sprue!
WOAHHHHHHHHHH. Assuming I can get the money for it this set just beat 70738 (Final Flight of Destiny's Bounty) for the set I'm buying during the Black Friday deals. IMHO the Ninjago label won't affect AFOL's or other people who might consider the theme "silly" just because of the sheer prettiness of this set. I mean LOOK AT IT. Just LOOK AT IT. IT'S BEAUTIFUL.
I feel like each time I watch the designer video I have something new to praise this set for...but praiseworthy feature 1? The shadow show thing.
And since @willobee498 brought up goof ups in designer videos...does the gray ninja appear twice in the main picture? Once sparring with the white ninja and again pulling the cart.
But once again.
WOAAAHHHHHH.
I've gotten 3 sets of the 70728 Battle for Ninjago City just for the Temple building, for the same reason I'll get a few of this set too as the temple looks to be the best version so far!
Wow. To my shame I had no interest in Ninjago until now... but I'm seriously tempted by this...
I never had any interest in the ninjago theme, but this truly is a beautiful set.
Jesus H. Christ, that's a huge set. The Airjitzu theme made me Miley interested in Ninjago for the first time since those horrible snakes, but this set.... Wow!
Wow... jaw drop. :O
I own one Ninjago set so far and have been put off buying anything else because of all the futuristic mechs and cars. But this is simply amazing. I'll probably try and pick this up without minifigures.
I, like others have mentioned, have not cared one bit about Ninjago, up until this point. That is a beautiful set! The buildings look so great, and all together would add some nice spice to a city layout as a sort of "China town" district. Very appealing!
I love this! I don't own any Ninjago - yet. This set is going to change that!
day one buy for me.
It looks great. Living in Asia I could add it to my lego displays but would likely dispose of most of the mini figs. I have avoided Ninjigo like the plague but have been wanting a nice Asian display piece to go along side some USC Star Wars, a large Harry Potter display and the Modular Buildings plus Opera House and Tower Bridge
Well, there goes my LEGO budget for the rest of the year! I recently managed to pick up 70728 Battle for Ninjago City from TRU on clearance ($119 down from $170, and I got that half price at $59 because of a 'buy one get 50% off another' promo) so the two of them together will be incredible.
Also they'd better hurry up and fix the image showing two Cole minifigs... Unless his ninja skills are so good he can appear in two places at once!
Yes.
Must have, beautiful.
I think that this is one of the most beautiful sets in a few years. The oriental style of architecture has always been one of my favorites. I'm always excited to have a non-modular, unlicensed exclusive.
Everyone seems to think that there is no market for this set, but looking through the comments I'm almost exclusively seeing posts noting how gorgeous it is and how it's a must buy. No one had a problem buying Kingdoms Joust when that came out though that was tied to a theme; I don't think people will have an issue with this set.
Great-looking set. Not a fan of Ninjago at all (haven't got any sets from the theme, other than polys), but this set is a cracker! Deffo want :-)
It looks great! So far I have not followed any Ninjago - not seen any tv episodes nor do I own any of their sets. I think I'll pick this one up though. It may even fit in a park area between modulars. I guess I may pick up some other Ninjago models now so I can encosed the park with asian style walls.
The price point is a bit of a shame though. Considering this will have heaps of stickers (I presume all the windows will be stickers, as are the signs and doors) and it is a non-licensed theme, the price point for 2000 pieces should have been maybe 160-170 EUR, or even less compared to some creator expert models.
I guess I'll wait for some Lego Store offers (double points or similar) before I will pick this up.
@tecjam: Actually, all the windows on the temple are PRINTED! They specifically mention it in the designer video. Not to mention that this set has loads of minifigures, four of which (Wu, Misako, Dareth, and the Postman) have designs exclusive to this set. So the price point does not surprise me one bit.
Somewhere, Taxon55 is shaking his fist at a model ofJapanese old-style architecture that is not his, but easily could have been.
@Aanchir: I must of overheard the 'printed' bit. But in fact they say they are 'decorated', which may or may not mean they are printed pieces. Lets hope they are printed.
As far the minifigs vs pricepoint, I still disagree. 10247 manages 10 minifigs and over 2400 pieces for under 180 EUR.
In 10247 count the small technic elements...
@inversion: Ok, I guess you are right, but it is hard to find a large piece-count set with many minifigs that isn't licensed.
So let me rephrase that, for a non-licensed theme to have a 10 cent / piece price point is a bit on the expensive side, in my opinion.
Not into Ninjago but love the set will have to get one, now to find the perfect dragon to go with it :)
@tecjam: They also mentioned that it was a first for that element, and since that element has been stickered plenty of times in the past (for instance, in the Haunted House and Horizon Express), I think it's safe to say that they mean that it's printed.
And in addition to 10247 having lots of small elements and lots of repetition, it also has hardly any exclusive printed designs. All the minifigures use existing prints from themes like City and Juniors.
One thing absent that would be nice is the individual ninjas' hair pieces, for those leisure moments when they're not battling evil.
I though it is interesting, but when I saw ninja with wings... Why it is for age 14+? I think it should be 7-12. But the buildings looks great. I prefer for example only buildigs, without ninjas, but with normal chinese minifigs. It will be better for me as non-ninjago set.
@Marcel z polski those "wings" are a glider paying homage to the original LEGO ninja theme. This is a reference mostly adults will get anyway, so 14+ is an acceptable age for the set. This is beside the fact that some techniques in this set are too advanced for most 7 year olds.
This set is just beautiful, it is unbelievable how far LEGO designers have come in the Ninjago theme, the architectural features on this design are phenomenal, I must have this set, just looking at the pictures of the set you can see how many different uses for pieces that you never thought could be used like that would be, the 'One Ring' is used multiple times to crown off the poles on the bottom of the main structures, I mean this set is unbelievable, it reminds me alot of some of the older Castle Ninjas sets from the late 90s, just because of how many ninja are in this, and im wondering atm why there are multiple Cole characters, but still it is an amazing set, to good to miss for me i must say.
I'm a bit torn on this one. I appreciate it as an Asian temple without and of the vehicles, robots, evil overlords and whatever else typically clutters up Ninjago. On the other hand, I really couldn't care less about Ninjago in general so I don't know that I'd want to drop what looks like a good amount of $ on this. We'll see ...
Despite the Ninjago theme that doesn't interests me nor I know much about it, this set looks great. I would like they release more detailed oriental buildings without the need to involve the Ninjago theme.
This is definitely the best Ninjago set ever produced. A perfect three-tier pagoda and two other buildings, one of which is styled to appear Oriental - it's brilliant. It takes away from the fact that it's Ninjago and more of just a UCS-style Japanese pagoda. While I would have preferred a much larger pagoda without the side buildings, they're definitely nicely made nonetheless which is why this is a top priority on my wishlist.
I usually don't go in for Ninjago like sets, but this model is highly impressive. Might have to add this to my Christmas list.
@juanpablorv: I doubt there's any "need" to involve the Ninjago theme. But considering it's one of the LEGO Group's most successful themes, it gives them the opportunity to reuse minifigures from other sets, and they can remove nearly all of the series' wacky sci-fi elements (as they've done here) to maximize its AFOL appeal, there are a lot of strong reasons for them to design it as a Ninjago set and not a whole lot of strong reasons not to.
I am an AFOL too and not really interested much in the 'theme,' I mainly buy sets that have some sort of architectural merit, and this one has that. The only other Ninjago set I have bought was the 'Battle for Ninjago City' because I liked the building in it.
This being yet another $200 set, I will put it on my maybe list. I am being much more discriminatory about what I spend now...sorry Lego, last year I went way over budget...
Its a nice looking set though. I do have a problem with the way the tiered roofs on the tower look, they remind me of Batman wings...LOL
I think it's nice that there's an East Asian town setting for a lego set. Since we're looking at ninjas here, I will consider it as a good attempt at a small Japanese town. I think I know which Japanese pagoda this set is modelled after. I'll let u guys google it. ^^ Unlike the Chinese pagodas, Japanese ones are shorter and squarish, so this set is genuine.
This will be my first Ninjago set. I just love it. I 've got a lot of old ninja's. They will be happy living here.
Too late to notice this news. It looks like a very likeable set. A very good compensation for those who missed the Japanese building project from Ideas.
Some of the missing characters from the cartoon is good, but some like Claire (randomly) and the ninja heroes seem not too necessary?
@Dorayaki: The two "generic" characters Claire and Jesper are indeed kind of random, but I think the point of them is to help populate the set. It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to have a shop without a shopkeeper, for instance.
As for the ninja, I think those are to boost the set's appeal with fans of the Ninjago TV show and sets. Even people who don't follow the show might be disappointed if a set from a theme with "ninja" in the name didn't come with any actual ninja! This is also the only set to include all six ninja, which is especially nice since these costumes for Zane, Lloyd, and Nya are each only available in one other set (70737 for Zane, 70738 for Lloyd and Nya).
Thanks to this set you can technically skip both those other sets and still get all of this year's Ninjago characters, although you'd still unfortunately miss out on the printed leg variants of Bansha and Soul Archer or the caped variant of Morro that way.
I kind of wish that they had the ninjas in their civilian clothing instead since they have never been released that way. Also, should by the regular Cyrus Borg since he does make an appearance.
This set is great, it contains no crazy ghost villains, no bulky oversized vehicles. This is NOT your average ninjago set this is something else, this is... Beautiful.
This reminds me of set 10193, not about the theme but about the set and a marvellous set it is. Great parts, great model, great set.
Chima was better
looks cool I may get it for the olive grass and other bricks, maybe the figs, but im not a fig of the Ninjago figs.
Love it!!
Wow. I have zero interest in Ninjago, but this set has single handedly gotten me excited again and taken me off of my small lego hiatus. It's amazing.
WOW! This is amazing! I must have it! This is the best temple of the entire Ninjago theme, hands down.
Although it's pretty inaccurate to the show, it is a beautiful building. It would have been cool if the inside was actually haunted though!
Looks totally awesome. And the price isn't so bad if you think about what you're getting. I wouldn't get it for the story or the show or whatever, I'd just get it because I love the architecture.
I just watched a video of the San Diego Comic-Con panel (https://youtu.be/g-UxxG8zNEc) and the Ninjago team confirms that Yang's Haunted Temple will be appearing again next season, so maybe it will end up being a new headquarters for the Ninja (as hinted in the instruction manual) after all! That might explain the less spooky interior. After all, the ninja have had some lessons in ghostbusting since their last visit...
