Football Collectable Minifigures confirmed

Posted by ,

The first news to come from Nuremberg is not at all what we were expecting! Way back in August of last year we reported that a series of Collectable Minifigures based on the German national football team would be released in 2016.

This has now been confirmed during a press conference held at the toy fair and the team from zussamengebaut.com have provided this teaser image taken during the presentation. It looks as if the series will consist of eleven minifigures, all from the German national team.

The names of the players represented have not been revealed but presumably it will be a typical starting eleven so we might see the likes of Mesut Özil, Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer, just to name a few.

Should make for some exciting prints... :/

By in United States,

I'm not much of a Futbol (Soccer) fan, but let's just say I was living in Argentina during a certain World Cup 2014; so I don't exactly have much enthusiasm to see the German team immortalized in Lego.

Just saying :)

By in Switzerland,

They license the Premier League, they will make a fortune.

The appeal of the German national side is limited, unless you are a Bayern Munchen fan which means that the majority of players are in the national team anyway.

By in Germany,

Not much of a football fan... I'm a total sports fan but I support athletes who work their asses off for 500€ per month instead, not those millionaires who get all the attention, advertisement and tv slots .

I might buy one or two bags just for fun to put them in my city and because it is a German team, but not all 11 of them. If they add the Jogi Löw to it, I would try to get him, because he seems like a kind guy.

By in Germany,

I absolutely agree, this series won't be very appealing outside Germany. But with Germany having been one of TLG's biggest market for decades added with the fact that football is immensely popular, it makes perfect sense.

I don't think these will be sold in other countries in official channels but completists won't find it too hard to get these; so if you don't like them it will be easy to avoid Götze, Hummels, Boateng etc. ;)

By in United Kingdom,

This may well be a test case for more football minifigs in the future. Maybe easier to negotiate a deal with the German national team than the Premier League, when nobody knows how the sales/profits will pan out. If it sells well I can see Lego negotiating deals with Leagues and nation teams all over the world.

Lots of cross appeal to different demographics this one.

By in United States,

I love my Olympic minifigures, and while they were pretty difficult to acquire in the US, I look forward to trying to get these as well. Though I assume they'll likely be just as challenging, if not even more so, than the Olympics minifigures.

Interesting that the blank figures show yellow hands, if they were based on real people would they not be fleshies? Also just seems really weird to me that the rest of the figure is just white, why not just leave the hands white too?

By in Belgium,

I love soccer, but Germany isn't a team I'd like to have in LEGO

By in Germany,

^^ maybe cause those figs are just placeholders

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

What about the rumored Disney minifigures series?

By in Bulgaria,

Lame. I was hoping for representatives from a variety of Euro 2016 competitors.

By in United States,

Hey guys I posted this a couple posts ago but I don't think anyone noticed :'( but Minecraft images where released by just2good on Dec. 17 I wanted to know why you haven't posted them on here? Thanks in advance

By in United Kingdom,

@masterX244 - I get that they are placeholders but it still seems odd to put yellow hands on them rather than leave them white like the rest of the fig. It might just be a goof, but someone has chosen to do that, and chances are that the image had to be approved by several other people, so why did no one say "The yellow hands could give something away" or something?

By in Spain,

I'm not a fan of this sport so the only way I'm buying these minifigs is if they have new hair pieces...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I know character released various premier league figures and sets but they weren't great, maybe they still hold the license?

I would have hoped that we would have seen several national teams in time for the Euros this summer, not just the eventual winners (on penalties!).

By in United States,

When I first saw this, I thought maybe lego had finally gotten a deal with the nfl... Alas, my heart must once again go cold...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Really. Come on TLG, just get on with it and make some road cyclist minifigs! (As if)

This will be the first wave of collectable minifigs that I completely skip, not because I think they will be bad, but because I have zero interest in football/soccer.

By in Australia,

Surely just a German/Europe exclusive like the TeamGB Olympic minifig series?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

If we're getting LEGO football teams please can we have Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup champs immortalised in LEGO too? Thanks!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm really hoping for fleshie heads and heads. Maybe we'll get a few new face prints and hair styles/colours.

By in Poland,

What kind of accessories can be expected? Ball? Trophy? Gun maybe? (I know, it is poor joke).

By in United States,

This would be a great year to also unveil a US Women's National Team series at the NYC Toy Fair as an update to the generic ones in 3416. I won't get my hopes up, though.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Anyone know if these will be 'country-exclusive' to Germany as the Olympic figs were only for UK sale? Got to admit I would rather have more variety from leagues or other national sides but I would still be interested in these and strangely, I really want a referee fig!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

They are only aviable in Germany!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I might be pleasantly surprised but I doubt this will have sufficient variety to attract people beyond those with an interest for football. Not enough variety of accessories and outfits. If it included the manager, trainer, coach, referee. pie seller, commentator etc it might have been a bit more interesting. Only the goalie adds any variety.

By in United States,

Very exciting! I'll have to find a way to get my hands on some of these. Just recently acquired a Team GB minifigure.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Could be a nightmare for packet feelers - no accessories? - so identifying by hairpiece alone!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

And if they all have mullets? Oh, hang on, that was several years ago.

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

No interest from my side. I'll save money for other sets... :-))

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Football bores the hell out of me, but hey, they're minifigs

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I will certainly be interested in getting the whole series however if they are exclusive to Germany with high secondary market prices I will pass.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

This will not even appeal inside Germany. Ugh.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I've decided to go to vacation to Germany because of this.

Gravatar
By in United States,

As an American, I couldn't care less. Glad to be saving some money!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Why not the Danish Team?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

No one mentioned the curved arms which are shown on the picture. I never seen before.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Steeeez - Think people ignored the arms (even if did notice) because Lego often use images of minifigures which take liberties with their appearance, such as unrealistic poses, in promotional material. Just look at previous minifigure series.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

If they are planning to release in Germany only, then the production run must be smaller which equals more collectable! Need to plan a trip to Germany!

Oh, and yep like most others I can do without football! But Lego Minifigs are Lego Minifigs!

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

I hope all the participating countries will have their own Lego teams, not only Germany!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I'd much prefer general sports oriented series than a boring football team series, regardless if it's German or any other team. As someone mentioned, might get 1-2 figs for the variety in the city.
