Sigh, theres goes my hope the images yesterday were fake.
Cool, but an AT-ST would be nice (AT-AT would make the price go up to probably $300).
It looks a bit better then it did before, but not by much. You have failed me for the last time with these Hoth sets, TLG.
is the snowspeeder the same as 75049-1: Snowspeeder?
It just looks like a bunch of the smaller Hoth sets I already have combined in 1 box. It also doesn't feel like a 2000+ piece set. Not even in the same league as Ewok Village. I'll buy the R2 unit on Bricklink and save my money.
That is one fantastic set of minifigs... I know it would have been better, and not as similar to other Hoth sets, if it had the full interior and less trench details, but it is "assault" on Hoth after all, so we should have expected it to focus more on the exterior. I seem to be the only person who likes it. I have a feeling that because it is expensive, and not very popular, that figs like R3-A2 and K-3PO will become very expensive in the future...
@mathu83: yes, but it has more orange on it.
Looks ok, but I'm not seeing $250 worth of value in that set.
Did anyone else just un-tick 'I want this set'? I've already got a few snowspeeders, the wampa cave, and various other Hoth sets so this isn't a must-have.
Few, that's saved me £220.
While I love the look of this set, I can't help but feel like they just took all of the Hoth sets they've released in the past four years and smashed them into one big set. I guess what I'm trying to say, is if I had a choice between this or the UCS Slave I, I know what my choice will be.
I am relieved to see the Canadian price... our dollar is so terrible I was expecting $249.99 US to equate to $349.99 CAN. I'll most likely get this on May the 4th. Since UCS sets never go on sale, there is no benefit to waiting.
Thanks for the info!
The pound euro price difference is getting to the point where you can book a cheap Eurostar ticket, buy a few exclusive sets in the new Paris Lego store, have lunch in a nice bistro and still be quids in...
^pagani I also like it. I really want it too for the trenches........
^^ the price you see on Brickset in Euro is usually the German price. The price in France, Belgium and Holland is usually higher. There is not much logic to it sometimes the price is the same in these other countries, sometimes it is the highest in Belgium (VAT is high there but it does not excuse a 15% difference in some sets). So then the exchange rate with the pound makes it even cheaper in the UK. So you might have to travel to Köln instead of Paris if you want to take advantage of the exchange rate....
Wow, just saw the image of this set and thought it'd be a great set figuring it'd be around the £120 mark... No chance. Crazy money!
This looks like a nice 150€ set! Oh wait...
Also misses the chance to give us more heroes: Leia, Vader, snowy Chewie, R2 with antenna, 3PO. These should have been in this set for this price.
2 snow troopers is hardly an assault
Very disappoiting. As had been said, not the same league as the Ewok village
So let's get some positive energy in here :) I think this set is less worth than 7879 + 8089 + 75138 priced at 180 euros, used not more than 120. There are some outside extras but poorer inside, nice stall for the taun-taun though no bacta tank which is quite important in the movie... anyway it has some nice small builds like the ion canon and the generator one can buy loose parts to build and add to the present Hoth landscape ('cause it's modular LOL), so:
– let's be happy we old collectors just saved a fortune for the coming DS :D
– let's be happy for the small additions
For the young ones it is a nice, when also expensive, playset anyway.
Easy Pass - clearly not worth the money - not in same league as Ewok Village
The power generator has been long overdue but I'm also slightly disappointed - my immediate thought was that it does just look like 7666, 7749 and 8089 assembled together. And yet another snow speeder...
However, if they've decided to do this scene, not sure what else I would be expecting other than a few extra figures... It just doesn't look coherent in the same way as, eg Ewok village does.
Sadly count me in the camp of - underwhelmed and considering it over priced.
I actually thought - don't I have this set already?
Well I don't understand so much of the negative opinions when they talk about rehashing sets. This is a battle scene so for me even though I have almost all the Hoth set I will keep buying more. It's army building people. :)
Also as a side note I woke up today and it had snowed. So that must be a sign from the Hoth LEGO God.
Two Snowspeeders?!? Could have changed one and placed an AT-ST, add a few more SnowTroopers, added a Probe Droid and Chewie. Given that I have never bought one Wampa Cave or an Echo Base this is a must for me.
^^ Agreed. And even though we have had a lot of Hoth sets this set has a ton of rebel troopers which we have not gotten many of in recent years. I'm glad they left out some of the main heroes in favor of more generic (and awesome looking) troopers.
I have either every Hoth set or the figures from each Hoth set. There is so little new here to justify acquiring the set and I am a hardcore original trilogy collector.
I have been trying to acquire every Lego set that is released with over 2,000 pieces but this year is making me question whether to continue.
Looks like the same Taun Taun and Wampa monster as before. I'm so glad I have not bought any of the previous sets apart from a snow speeder and the AT-AT. I will be buying this for sure.
It's not much of an assault with two snow troopers versus a dozen rebels. This changes the course of history, no need to evacuate Echo Base and consequently no need to visit Bespin or Dagobah afterwards ;-)
£220? Wow, that's a lot of money for what seems to be very little substance!
So the opinions:
1. I already have the Hoth sets, therefore it sucks.
2. I don't have the Hoth sets, it is awesome!
Guys, 90%+ of people who are buying this probably don't have a Hoth collection. People who like SW want Hoth, it is iconic. The set does not suck, you are only disappointed because can't increase your collection substantially this time. I would not call it a UCS tho.
If you want to blame Lego for something, blame them for picking the subject. The Hoth battle was a MASSIVE, disjointed, assortment of mess. Any attempt at recreating this scene, and stay within budget, was going to look like the same disjointed mess.
As for this set, I'm in. Add in some base plates to create some order, an AT-AT, some snowtroopers and you have a pretty cool scene.
Well, at least they tried.
I am with inversion and jdworley. This is just more icey lovelyness to build the Hoth scenes you want. Plus it has the bonus of new cool minifigs.
meh
For somebody who haven't bought the previous Hoth sets it is a really great set.
However for me, who owns two of 4500 Snowspeeders, two 7749 Echo Bases, a 8083 Rebel Trooper Battle Pack, a 8084 Snowtrooper Battle Pack, a 8089 Hoth Wampa Cave, a 10178 Motorized AT-AT, another AT-AT based on 4483, a 6012 X-wing Fighter and a 7965 Millennium Falcon, this set is a pass.
I also built a much bigger gate of Hoth Echo Base and a shield generator made of 4 sections (not 3, c'mon!!!), the only thing I need from this set is K-3PO and the control panel, and it gives some ideas to build the trench in front of the base.
Anyway, this set is a nice set for those who will start collecting Hoth themed sets
This must be the set that finally proves that piece count means nothing. 2,144 pieces, but scores of them are 1x1 white slopes. As for army building, how many £220 sets are you going to buy in order to get a decent number of snowtroopers? I had high hopes for this set but I am so disappointed.
this is by far the best hoth set ever
strange prices.
UK buyer should buy from Canada
canadian price without canadian VAT + shipping + customs charges + UK VAT
ok, Canada shipping is too expensive. So I think this is without sense. Only if you can take it by a trip in Canada. To order in Euros make sense too.
----
About the set. The gate looks nice, the complete rebel base is great.
Its a good base for building a larger base.
But I miss some more snowtroopers. Or an imperial officer, General or Vader.
Also an AT-ST would be nice.
So the Wampa scene can get out - better for a single set.
(Wampa, Wampa hole, 2x Taun Taun, Probe Droid, Han, Luke)
Because Luke was already fighting/ driving a snowspeeder during the battle.
While many will say that they didn't get a chance to buy 7666, 7749 and 8089, LEGO should be more innovative than practically just repacking those sets (with some modification granted) and releasing it, especially under the official UCS branding.
It shouldn't be labelled as a UCS, especially since the far superior Ewok Village did not get that sort of labelling, and it shouldn't be called "Assault on Hoth" when it only contains 2 Snowtroopers and no other assaulting force. It's technically just Echo Base.
Another vote for the rather 'underwhelmed' crowd :( Relieved that I wont have to spend £220 (which is as mad as the 1960's Batman set), but also disappointed that, like the Carbon Freezing chamber, an iconic scene that could have been super awesome in Lego form has resulted in something that doesn't have any real 'wow' factor :(
UCS? Hmmmm no way - this doesn't pass muster next to Slave 1, Sandcrawler or even the x-wing for that matter. Come on Lego, give us a UCS set that makes us go 'wow' again - you know you can!!!
It looks like their using the old Lego Star Wars logo on the box. I don't know if they are going to change that, because it does look a bit weird being the only set so far this year that has that style of logo.
14 minifigures and (apparently) only 1 female one.
Sigh.
I don't know what to make out of it....LEGO is just expensive, and at $250 for this or other sets, we can do without. Stop and think, $250....for this...really?!? BTW, I say the same thing for the other $250+ sets.
I dunno, strangely enough, I think it looks pretty good. It's way out of my price range (I might have the parts to build Echo Base from scratch, though), but you do get 14 minifigs with it, and a whole ton of nicely designed sub-assemblies. The last picture in the image set probably does it justice best, because there really are quite a few builds in there, all of them, seemingly, of pretty high quality.
That said, I'll agree that throwing in an AT-ST (even a re-hash of the Endor Bunker one for continuity) would be have been nice, and probably would have added around 200-300 pieces, which would make it a better value for money.
Overall, though, I actually sort of like it. We don't get bases with massive hangar doors very often, after all.
On a side note, I really do hope the next UCS set is a real Cloud City. I was fortunate enough to get the original, but an updated version would be amazing.
They should combine this with an Imperial Hoth Assault set. That would be so cool! (Pun intended!). This is one of the most epic scenes in the whole series of currently released films. This should be the stsrt of modular SW sets!
Very disappointing and far to expensive.
Get out of my wanted list!
I think this set looks good. Does it really matter if it's got the UCS badge? If you don't have any or many of the previous hoth sets then this will be really appealing. I think kids will like the playability of the set. Hoth sets are about combining them to represent a huge battle. I expect another hoth set will be released next year....... Maybe an AT-ST.
Anyone know what the next UCS is supposed to be?
There is a great picture online of four former Hoth sets that goes "21 mini figures, 3 snow troopers, three snow speeders, and $160". That pretty much explains my feelings towards the set. $200 or more dollar sets should be cool and neat and different. This is literally just the same as previous sets.
I'm also wondering how they justify the UK price of £219?!! Convert the USD price to sterling and you get approx £172 and even adding on our exhorbitant 20% VAT, that still only brings it to £206 - whats the story there?? Way too expensive - I was hoping this would be in the region of £169 - but given the lack of 'wow' factor I wouldn't buy this unless it becomes significantly discounted at some stage.
Some large white base plates wouldn't go amiss in this set
The price is a joke. Since Disney bought Lucasfilm the prices have been pants on all SW sets. I appreciate licensed sets cost more but the hike looks like George and Walt are both getting a decent percentage :-/
This set isn't much bigger or much better than the last big Hoth set and that was selling for £60 at TRU just before retirement
Next UCS is supposed to be a snowspeeder. Let's hope it's better value than this.
Not impressed I am afraid!oh well let's look forward to a UCS Snowspeeder!
Why?......whywhywhywhy??????......why not another BIG and EPIC and ICONIC Set like a new Star Destroyer or another BIG ship? Thats only a collection of already released sets in one package and thats supposed to be an UCS???
PLEASE ANOTHER STAR DESTROYER WITH LOTSA PIECES!!!!!!!!!!
I'd probably say this is the biggest disappointment I've ever felt collecting Lego. It's never worth £220. I can make up my own display from sets I've collected from years. I can probably say, that this is a no! Nothing tempts me to buy this!
£220? Overpriced and underwhelming.
TLG have got a lot of nerve with some of the price increases.
Not being a viewer of Rebels, it's great to see an R3 minifigure outside of the Imperial Assault Carrier. I'll definitely be picking up this set!
I actually think this set looks really cool. I don't have any other Hoth sets, so this one would be just perfect for me! All scenes from Hoth in only one set.
THIS constitutes as a SW UCS set these days? Is that seriously the best you can do, Lego? How disappointing. The UCS Sandcrawler was kinda pushing it already but it has the serious piece count behind it, and Ewok Village is far better and didn't need to be branded as a UCS set.
I actually really like this set! If you buy this set you won't really have to buy another Hoth set unless you want to expand this. I hope they continue to do this sort of thing with different sets and other battles. Cloud City, Endor, Tatooine, Geonosis, Mustafar, etc. Great job Lego!
So basically it is a combination of my Wampa Cave set, my Hoth command centre set, my Hoth Hangar door set, my hoth troopers battles sets with an added Ion cannon and shield generator. No thanks. Very disappointed :(
It's a nice set. I was expecting something better. More of a diorama with base plates, seeing as it's an ultimate collector series. Certainly doesn't look like A UCS to me.
I have got to the point of having to be choosey due to space. There are so many big sets out this year that I want. Another one to delete from the wanted list. Phew!
This is annoying. I've been waiting for a decent Hoth Base for years and they bring out this. Now, I don't think it's that horrible. Parts of it are very well-built. It's just annoying that they replicate a snowspeeder, wampa cave, trench, turret, and bland interior, then add nice hangar doors, a small shield generator, and an ugly ion cannon, and they expect us to buy it. Why do they need to include it all in one set? I'm fine with remakes, but it annoys me when they include one small thing I want in a giant conglomeration of sets like this. No way I'm buying this unless it's on heavy discount, which I doubt will ever happen.
The wampa cave set is much better than the one included here. The interior of the previous base is much better than the interior here. The trenches aren't much better than those of Hoth Attack. The snowspeeder is the same as always. The ion cannon here is ugly and inaccurate (which I understand, as it's hard to make round things out of LEGO, but still). The only thing which is an improvement over past sets is the exterior of the main base, but even that's a stretch. I'm fine with remakes, but I like them to be better than (or at least pleasantly different from) their predecessors. This is certainly not.
Also annoying to me is all the good minifigures I want. Now I'll need to get Wes, Wedge, Toryn, and maybe K-3PO (I bought the previous incarnation loose, but this one is so much better) on the secondary market. No doubt they'll be expensive.
I think LEGO should focus on one part at a time. Wampa Cave, Trenches, Snowspeeder, Ion cannon and shield generator, and the actual base should be separate sets.
So disappointed...Assault on Hoth, why not just give us a UCS AT-AT? It would be way much better than this. Anyone agree with me?
I like the set (I do not own any of the previous Hoth sets), but am afraid of possible future discoloration :)
Bunch of existing Hoth sets combined... How can they place this in the UCS line... studshooters and flickmissiles everywhere... this is more like a playset... The turrets look awful once again.
The most glaring thing to me is why they would include the Wampa stuff in a set called Assault on Hoth? Doesn't make any sense, except to lure kids in. Same goes for putting a Taun Taun in there too. When this was announced, I was visualizing a massive Hoth hangar with room for a snowspeeder and maybe an x-wing. Throw in a corridor, command center room and the med bay and it would have been perfect!
If this is the result they should have just released smaller sets that bolt together much like Jabba's Palace and the Rancor Pit. I don't think these small sections need to arrive in one box. Just a detailed Echo Base - hanger door, cannon and shield generator at £100 would have been adequate. The sets reminds me of the Endor Bunker, which was half the price of this!
It looks nice but $249.99 seems like a lot for so little pieces.
Boring and uninspired! At least put an AT-AT in it to justify the price. I'm not a minifig collector either, but a bunch of white figs is also way boring if I was.
I had a feeling this set was going to suck. Really what can you do with hoth that hasn't been done already in the myriad of smaller sets. Hoth echo base was better than this IMO.
I'm rarely disappointed in Lego sets (I'm a pushover), but this one definitely fits the bill. Heck, I'm buying the Batcave '66 even though it's a bit underwhelming because I love that show. But a UCE set with so many separate parts is strange to me.
No leg printing for those Imperial Snowtroopers? Most displeased.
I don't know. Yes, LEGO probably made it worse for itself by using the UCS tag on something that is not on par with "traditional" UCS sets (this probably should have been advertised rather as Ultimate Play Set). Yes it is not as good as the Ewok Village was.
But pricewise it fits the Lego SW formula quite a bit. Piecewise it is bigger than the Ewok Village (1990 vs. 2144 pcs). Very obviously it is aimed towards new LEGO SW fans who do not have the older sets (hence the inclusion of the Wampa cave). If you read reactions of these people they are quite positive of this set as it covers all the main scenes of Hoth (minus hangar and bacta - but you can never fit in every single thing). A bit of empathy for newcomers would be in place.
I understand being disappointed because we didn't receive something brand new, may be something more like the EV. I frankly don't understand people ranting about rip-offs.
As for the disjointed scenery - it's LEGO! That's the beauty of it - you can modify the set exactly how YOU want it :)
Feels like a weird thrown together set, sort of disjointed -- doesn't feel 'epic' enough at that price. And I'm sorry, TWO snowtroopers don't exactly scream big assault...
Does Han come with a hood? For that price, he should.
Rebels, tremble.........before the glorious majesty of TWO SNOWTROOPERS!!!!!! There is no possible way 10 rebels can beat two snowtroopers. None whatsoever.
Interesting, but hardly a "UCS" caliber set.
Side note: How in the world did they manage to cram 2,100+ pieces into something that should have been twice as big?
Is this UCS though?
It has a 75xxx number, not a 10xxxx number like normal UCS sets. Maybe we thought a UCS set was coming, but this is the reality, an expensive "normal" set.
Looking at the set, I already have some components, but if I can find some 32x32 White baseboards to build this on, I might be interested in creating a nice scene. Otherwise, I'll give it a miss.
Meh. TBH this set is just basically a $250 4-in-1 Hoth pack.
LEGO I AM DISSAPOINT
It looks good but it's an underwhelming UCS set. I love Lego but the prices seem to be continuing to rise. What was a £30 model say 10 years ago is now a £65 set today and I wouldn't say it looks twice as good. Yes I'm aware of inflation but they need to start stabilising their prices or this is one AFOL who will continue to keep his money firmly in his pocket. Barely any set is worth paying full price for these days IMO. I still love building the sets but almost every one leaves me feeling that it isn't worth the full RRP anymore.
I like the Baron's take on this set. Like the old Micro-machines...
https://flic.kr/p/gXw4H6
Even though this set is essentially a Hoth 4 in 1 pack with some nice extras (ion canon and shield generator) I'll pick this up and add/moc and mod it to the other Hoth sets for a nice diorama.
