21306 The Beatles Yellow Submarine revealed
Posted by CapnRex101,
LEGO has revealed 21306 The Beatles Yellow Submarine on its official Facebook page. The set contains 550 pieces and will cost $59.99, £49.99 or €59.99.
It includes John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr and Jeremy Hillary Boob minifigures; all of which are based on their appearance in the animated Yellow Submarine movie from 1968.
A video featuring the set has also been posted on the LEGO YouTube channel. You can view it after the break along with some more images and the official set description...
Take a surreal trip under the seas in the LEGO version of the Yellow Submarine from the iconic 1968 animated musical fantasy film inspired by The Beatles. Ideal for display or role-play fun, the Yellow Submarine features loads of cool, authentic details including a cockpit for the included minifigures of John, Paul, George and Ringo.
Kevin Szeto’s motivation for creating the Yellow Submarine:
“As an amateur musician and songwriter, I have always been drawn to the music of The Beatles. The creation of the Yellow Submarine model was really my way of showing my affection for The Beatles, as well as trying to pay a small tribute to The Beatles phenomenon. The Yellow Submarine is bright, fun, and colourful, which also made it a good subject to translate into LEGO form”, Kevin said as he shared his motivations for building the Yellow Submarine.
Justin Ramsden’s (LEGO designer) motivations were also very much centred around his love for the iconic band, as he was given the opportunity to refine Kevin’s initial model. “I watched the film when I was younger and was really inspired by how it oozed so much imagination – comparable to how I view LEGO elements. I’m also a massive fan of The Beatles having grown up with their music all my life so to see The Beatles in LEGO form is a dream come true.”
The set will be available on the 1st of November and Brickset will be publishing a review as soon as we are able.
Let us know what you think of the set in the comments.

Great... now all I need is a set based on Abbey Road, Sgt. Peppers, the White Album, Magical Mystery Tour, Rubber Soul...
AWESOME!!! :-)
Love it, a must purchase for me and maybe one for my parents.
One of the clone brands had a set of figs based on Yellow Submarine a few years ago. I saw them at Target next to some KISS figures. Kudos to LEGO for actually including a yellow submarine, but honestly that song is some of the Beatles' weakest work. I wish they'd licked Sergeant Pepper's or something.
Pity they didn't share pictures yet :-(
What I can see from the video though, the submarine looks small, smaller than the original Ideas design. I wonder if there will be room for the Beatles inside, and if there will be custom printed bricks as shown in the video.
Nevertheless, will 100% buy it for the missus :-)
Not to bad looking. Might get one.

@ Mr. Hobbles
Holy cow! That looks awesome. And I love how they used the sausages as railing!
Absolutely a must-buy.
Love the use of the end of the movie props for the minifigs there!
^^^ from what I can count, it seems to be roughly the same length as the Idea project.
To be honest, I find this one much closer to the shape of the original drawing, though. At least its profile.
This one is probably going to sell like hot cakes to all the Beatles fans out there and scalpers from HUKD.
Not to mention every AFOL who wants those minifigs ............
Sausages!
I think this goes ahead of the Caterham on my wants list.
Best looking lego box ever.
At last! How cool that it comes so soon! All you need is this set :)
Whatever that scurrier body is supposed to be is terrifying.
the Lego Ideas blog confirms the prices:
USD 59.99 / EUR 59,99 / GBP 49.99
Want this! And I shall even build and display it!!!
I have to have it! I voted for this!!!
Wow! This looks great. Probably worth a trip to the store on November 1.
I actually think this an improvement on the original design. Really loving the use of all those sausage pieces for the top railing. Overall seems smoother and more streamlined.
Looks nice, not a big beatles fan, so I am going to pass on this one. But congrats to all the beatles fans out there.
It looks cool, much better than I expected. As a fan of Beatles, I´ll definently get one. I wish their costumes were included too, though.
MUST... BUY
On one hand, this is really unnecessary and unneeded. Really who needs a brightly colored submarine that nearly looks like a Duplo design? On the other hand, this is extremely cool and funny, plus it involves the Beatles :) I'll definitely be getting this.
Who really needs ninjas that fight skeletons and ghosts? Who need futuristic knights that fight devils?
^^ You mean Jeremy Hillary Boob?
Am I the only one that thinks that Jeremy Hillary Boob looks like Violator/Killer Clown from Spawn? Anyway, I think the set looks great, not my cup of tea but job well done by the designers.
I'm getting this solely because HEADS OF RINGO STARR, PAUL McCARTNEY, JOHN LENNON, AND GEORGE HARRISON.
i,d well buy that, its proper detailed the figures look like typical 70's pop stars and also i saw the diecast version of this made by hotwheels last week in b&m and nearly bought it,
i,d also love to see the mini cooper from austin powers made from lego and a london telephone box in red.
Seems like, in the video, the bubbles from the sub are just screaming to be done with 1x1 round plates or tiles instead of hand drawn animation.
A lot of Beattles fans that will appreciate this set, let me help spread the world on Puerto Rico.
If we all lived in a LEGO yellow submarine... we wouldn't all fit.
But it's finally an Ideas set that even looks even better than the first draft.
the Nowhere Man is a great touch... can't wait for this one
Man, they're really getting liberal with those elbow bricks. Not complaining though.
OMG. Best.Lego.Ever. Awesome heads, instantly recognisable. Day 1 purchase, no doubt.
WOW. The set is much better than the Ideas project.
I really don't like the Beatles, but I feel I might have to buy one or two if only to sell on to people that do...
Nice one. Now...bring us... THE VILLAGE PEOPLE! YMCA! The fans have spoken!
Meh. Not a Beatles fan, always thought the movie was garish, and it seems an odd fit for the LEGO brand, almost as off the mark as The Simpsons. I'll pick one up to hold on to, to fund some other LEGO purchase down the road.
Oh man my dad would LOVE this.
I'm no Beatles fan, but I think I'll just have to buy this, it looks great!
Love how they used those red sausages!
That might be the most innovative use of the sausage pieces I've ever seen...
I really dislike the Beatles, but maybe if this sells well enough it would give Lego incentive to make more musicians. I know it would never happen, but I would pay obscene amounts for a Lego Alice Cooper with a guillotine, or Lego KISS with instruments, Lego Ted Nugent with guns, grill and lots of animals that can be rebuilt as steaks....
Day one purchase!!! Looking forward to it... By the way, are those double sided heads?
Looks really good! But I don't like The Beatles and I've never seen the film, so have no reason to get it.
This set doesn't do much for me personally, but it looks very well executed.
More importantly, I think that this is the kind of thing that the Ideas program is all about - brining us original, creative content that would never have been made through the standard LEGO licensing and design process.
This is a definite day one buy for me. Those minifigs are perfect!
Looks lovely. Very colourful. I probably won't buy as it's in my bit expensive range and I like the Beatles but I'm not an obsessive fan. But I think it's really nice.
Definite purchase for me - when it's discounted, obviously! ;-)
Gotta love the comments here along the lines of "Never liked The Beatles, never seen the film, so I won't buy it." Well I'm guessing you've never owned a Corellian freighter either, but is that any reason to not buy a fantastic LEGO version?!
This is up there with WALL*E (post neck-fix) as a lovingly recreated, genuinely iconic subject and beautifully rendered in our favourite bits of plastic. BUY IT !!! :-D
Love this! The box art could not be any cooler; and the periscopes look great!
such a exciting set! For me a graduate of UoL, this is definitely a must buy set...5 minifigs with stage are perfect for display...there's a question—whether this set contains the crystal shelf under the yellow submarine as the picture demonstrated above?
Will this be out in time for Christmas?
@blackdeathgr:
In 2011 when the indian from the Series 3 minifigures came out I built the Village People:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=566418
It also included parts of the traffic cop from Series 2 minifigures and cowboy from Series 1 minifigures, plus a soldier minifigure from Indiana Jones theme, as well as some regular minifigure parts.
Up next David Bowie Ashes to Ashes!
Complete with bulldozer, religious people, girl in dress, tin man and old lady!
I've seen this movie just two days ago! WOW! I forgot about this submission. It's awesome to see lego had a go at it :)
Anyway, as expected the figs are awesome. It's cool to see nowhere man included as well.
As for the submarine... 60 euro for THAT?! It looks cool, but come on! Did 40% go to licensing or something?
Sorry for being so negative but this price is rediculous! I don't care how many parts would be present (probably a good deal would be crammed inside), it doesn't look remotely like a 60 euro set.
It looks like 71075 elbow is back after a 10 year hiatus. Macaroni and Cheese coloured, no less.
This is fantastic! A must buy!
Nah I will skip this could never stand the Beatles think they completely overrated!!
^^^ It's been redesigned to prevent it being used illegally. It now has axle holes in the ends.
It's used in the Caterham, too.

Looks great. I'll be off to Liverpool to get mine
@Huw, Good to know! This is easily one of the top 10 useful new elements for 2016.
(I need to design a label for it soon @ http://brickarchitect.com/lables/ )
It's also interesting to note that new elements are being debuted in sets from the Ideas theme. This is an interesting development.
(In my best pirate voice) Arr! Tis' a beauty matey's! Some of my favorite things; the Beatles and Legos! Although I'm not sure about the tan color choice for Jeremy/Hillary/Boob (except his accurately blue face), and what instrument/nautical gadget is George holding? Aside from those minor slights, and wishing they had their proper wonderful instruments, this is a can't wait must buy!
^George is holding the motor from the submarine, all the props were in the live-action cut at the very end of the movie.
@henrysunset: Not really, that elbow piece appeared in http://brickset.com/sets/70589-1/Rock-Roader back in June before appearing in either this or the Caterham. The Rock Roader just isn't inventoried on BrickLink yet.
Are those 1x1 quarter round tiles in white, seen on the conning tower, a new piece?
It looks like there could be some great printed control panels on the inside.
My Dad isn't into Lego like I am but I think I'm going to have to get him this set! I grew up listening to his music and the Beatles were his favorite.
@FlagsNZ: They're new in White. They've previously appeared in Medium Azur in http://brickset.com/sets/41124-1/Heartlake-Puppy-Daycare, in Dark Green (Green) with a watermelon print in http://brickset.com/sets/41126-1/Heartlake-Riding-Club, http://brickset.com/sets/41130-1/Amusement-Park-Roller-Coaster, and http://brickset.com/sets/41134-1/Heartlake-Performance-School, and in Brick Yellow (Tan) with a lattice-top pie print in 41126.
Nice set for The Beatles fans but I'm not one of them. Too overrated. Legend says they were high as f*ck when they composed this song, so...
Basically the first two sentences of the above comment. I know... two Beatles songs, one thanks to Motley Crue. \m/
@ dougts, while I agree that Ideas shoukd be about original and creative designs (which the old fishing store is a fantastic example of), I don't think this is really original or creative. Someone made the Idea submission based on a property from looong ago that they had no involvment with, and the Yellow Submarine has even already been a construction set (though a fairly poor one, by the looks) made by K'Nex.
I think TLG is going to make a gazillion dollars on this. I shared this on my old little prince FB project page, and it's blowing up there. I'm definitely getting one - if you guys don't buy them all first!
This receives a solid meh.
1) I like the Beatles
2) I consider Liverpool and the Wirral my second home
3) I have been to the International Garden Festival in 1984 as a kid where I went inside the life-size Yellow Submarine they had there.
So, yeah yeah yeah, I will definitely get me this set, plus one as a present for an English friend of mine as well.
And to get into my alter-ego a little bit, just look at that box-art, it is so groovy and totally shaggadelic, baby ;-)
Quite a coincidence too, Mike Myers' parents were Scousers as well :-)
LEGO and LSD, never thought the two would meet...
Must have :-)
Not a Beatles fan but this may be one to scalp to flog to Beatles fans when it's retired. :)
They're not making new part shapes specifically for IDEAS sets. They never have, for any of what they call Direct-To-Consumer sets, which includes the Modular Buildings. IDEAS sets have a very limited budget that allow a few existing parts to be moulded in new colours.
However, if they can persuade other set designers working on other themes that a part would be useful to have, they can get the design done and sometimes the part will appear in a Direct set first because of the shorter production times.
Other examples would be the large train wheels in 10194 Emerald Night - these were designed for the 7597 Toy Story Train, but came out first in 10194. And the cows in the 10193 Medieval Market were designed for the 7637 City Farm, but came out first in Brown.
So expect to see this new tube-bend part in several Technic sets and a System theme or two going forward (is Nexo Knights ongoing?), to justify the cost of designing a new shape.
what do i think: this will be the FIRST lego set i will buy 2 of one to build and one to keep in the box forever. never done that before. As i side note i have told my wife that my lego collection is to never be sold. Only given away after my death.(not any time soon).
I'll be getting two or three if these just to make different versions of the Beatles and maybe some mods to the sub. This is a great set I love it.
I like it, despite Yellow Submarine being a movie the Beatles had very little to do with. John, Paul and Ringo, great. George, looks like and imposter. Needs an accessory set with Old Fred and some Apple Bonkers.
My hope is the set will be a huge success and will lead to Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper figure sets.
Please don't scalp this set!
As the son of a Liverpudlian, I had to vote for this one....so glad it's happened, just hurry up November 1st, I have a few christmas presents to buy.
There's a hole in my pocket.
Man, mini NES -and- Lego Yellow Sub on Nov 1. It's gonna be a busy day!
Not excited about the set. But, excited about the prospect of adding Beatles IP to the next LEGO movie. It brings to mind some of those old, weird scooby doo - monkees mashups that they did.
I wish Captain Fred had been included instead of Jeremy. But this does look really great.
MUST TO HAVE IT!!! SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!
Erm...
http://www.fsm-media.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/KNEX-Yellow-Submarine-Building-Set3.jpg
@Greendude: Your point? It's hardly the first license LEGO acquired after it was held by another building toy brand.
@Aanchir This is such an obscure concept that it must certainly have been copied from k'nex. I thought Lego was above that. Lepin?
Finaly. My favorit toy mixed with my favorit band. This is a must have for me.
@greendude: you do do realize this is a Lego Ideas set that Lego would have probably never made on their own, right? I mean, it was originally designed by a fan who probably never saw the Knex set before uploading it.
Anyway: Love the set and the original movie!
I like the submarine a lot, but not so much the minifigure.
Buy it now on eBay.co.uk before it's released!
http://r.ebay.com/wXJmdZ
Definitely need to buy this set.
