New images of McLaren 720S

Posted by ,

Carscoops has just published official images of the forthcoming 75880 McLaren 720S.

I think they are new, at least I've not seen them before. You can view them after the break.

Thanks to Adyrenfurth for the news.

There appears to be under ten stickers which makes a change from the 30+ we often get burdened with on other cars.

It's great to see that the headlights on this, and many of the 2017 cars, are brick-built and not stickers.

The set comes with a designer at a drawing board rather than a driver.

It looks stunning, doesn't it. The best Speed Champions car to date, I reckon. Look out for it in shops from 1st June.

I like the inclusion of the desk in this set

Best thing about it is that it'll look good even without the stickers. Can't say that about many (most) Speed Champions sets, sadly.

Lovely! I can't wait to get my hands on it!

Tis' a thing of beauty! My second favorite Speed Champions car so far (GT40 still holds a 1 spot in my heart). It'll look great on my city's streets, although not sure how my minifigures can afford all of these sports cars...

I think I'll make this my first Speed Champions purchase

By in Sweden,

No-brainer. This and the Bugatti Chiron will make an amazing addition to my very small collection of cars.
I'm glad it includes a designer instead of a driver. Anyone knows if his head print is unique? I'll use his head to make a minifig that looks like me (:

I think overall, the builds look great in pretty much all of the Speed Champions sets. I haven't picked any up since I'm not a huge car guy, but at the same time I can appreciate these sets. I have considered a few of them, but other sets take precedence.

With that said, I'm not sure why this was such a big reveal. It doesn't seem any more special than any other sets. Am I missing something?

That looks freakin awesome! Love the desk/designer as something different for the additional small build, suits this set well. Def getting this.

@LegoSolo77 Minifigures just tend to be rich... I mean, the smallest bill they use is a $100 bill! :)

One of the best Speed Champions cars yet. Even if I weren't collecting the theme I would totally pick this up.

Awesome. I have a car loving friend who will buy this at sight!

Fantastic set. Can't wait

Would have been cool if the little skate/model car had been orange! Looks like a great set overall. The designer and drawing board are a nice inclusion.

Awesome! That's a surprisingly faithful recreation. Also Really glad to see them get creative with the figures/scenery they put in: I always thought it was kinda weird when they included race car pilots and pylons with sports cars (I'm looking at you Bugatti Chiron)

@Sethro3: The actual car was first revealed quite recently, so I assume McLaren wanted it kept a secret and so LEGO had to release it some time after the main product line.

Looks decent

@LegoSolo77: when we last discussed this, theories included the supercars being affordable kit cars, and Lego people work twenty jobs each (well, you rarely see them sleep). Judging by the numbers of police and criminals in Lego towns, there is probably a lot of movement of funds in the Lego economy (out of safes and into fast trucks). Several movie stars live in Lego land, they do alright. Major industries include mining, construction of police stations, movie making, deep sea diving, space exploration, capturing alien technology and selling coffee ($37). So it all starts to make sense. Yes I have thought about this way too much... Also I really like the desk lamp and 'model' car.

i'ii probably get it, but I wouldn't call it stunning.

By in United States,

@VaderFan2187: It should be like the rest of the other small sets, so $25 there, while UK is 13, US is $15, and Can $18, and AUS $23.

Oh man. I need this.

By in Canada,

The spare wheel caps are close enough to Borbet Type A wheels that I would buy this set no matter how horrid the actual vehicle is!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ugh, McLaren front end is horrible in LEGO. Its just not possible to capture all the curves of the car. But that desk is SOOO cool that I might just have to buy it anyway.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is it just me or does any one else think that it is down right ugly?
I will get this set to add to my collection (I REALLY like the theme) But this on will not be one of my favorites

By in United States,

Think this will be the second speed champions set I get. Like the fact that you can leave all the sickers off and the car still looks like a car.

@the creative box
No, it appears in at least one other set, I got one through 2015's city Square where it was on a tram driver. Plus, it seems to be an updated version of an older head which first appeared in 2008.

It does look great! Not sure whether it's the best one ever, but it is a sure buy. I also love the designer idea, but it seems he still has a helmet, so can drive off with the car any time :)

By in Australia,

Gorgeous. I'm definitely picking that up the first time I see it.

It certainly looks the part, though maybe it would help with the lights if they cast those new smaller wedge plates in clear. The designer's desk is a great touch.

The thing is, all these models have a similar overall brick shape, which suits some cars and not others. Only the Porsches showed some variation from the standard design with the curved-top bricks along the sides, and looked really good for it. Others often turn out too tall or not wide enough.

The Ford GT40 also showed some new design features, and looks great. Personally I'd love to see one of the Monte Carlo Rally Lancia Stratos HFs from 1975/77, in red with yellow hubs and all the spotlights. I think though we need a new curved windscreen that slopes out 45° to the sides as well as the front. That would suit some more Le Mans racers too.

Those extra rims look a lot lik the ones on a Ferrari F40, so maybe we will see one of those next season. I sure hope so.

By in Poland,

Not a car fan at all, but I'm pretty sure I'll buy this one. Car is not too weird, not too many stickers. and I love the desk.

Never got any Speed Champions set before, but I will get this one for sure. It's a work of art, and I like the real thing a lot too. Plus the addition of a designer table/desk is great, much better than some traffic light.

Need it. Nuff said.

I hate all the stickers on these sets normally but this is a must buy!

@CaptainRogers, don't forget they make change with gold doubloons! @AddictedToStyrene, lmao! Yes I remember our previous conversation Re: this mystery of so many middle class minifigures driving luxury cars. I find your logic is valid; also keep in mind the deep sea diving portion of their economy is mostly related to recovering sunken pirate treasure (thus they can use gold doubloons to make change). I'm glad I'm not the only one who contemplates the philosophical existence of tiny plastic figures :)
