Random set of the day: Turbo Chopper
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 1437 Turbo Chopper, released during 2002. It's one of 14 Jack Stone sets produced that year. It contains 13 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 128 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $8.30, or eBay.

Is it possible for @huwbot to remove Jack Stone, Galidor, and Fabluland and a few related themes from the random set of the day randomizer? Few people actually want to see those themes.

They may not be very popular sets but they often have some of the most entertaining comments.

Speak for yourself. I may not be a fan of Jack Stone or Galidor, but it's always interesting to see the sets pop up because of just how bizarre they are.
Flying high and simultaneously driving the company into the ground.

This man does not speak for all of us. We must endure the bad to better appreciate the good.
Also, it's really funny to see stuff like this. It's Japanese Jack Stone for crying out loud! This is gold!

You do have a point I didn’t see the Japanese part that’s really cool, I have never seen a Japanese Lego box. The figure feels like a downgrade for the 80 technic figures though.
Very impressed by how his hat stays on despite being right under the propeller
It says 13 parts, but it doesn't look a day over 10.
I generally love those little mini-copters, but in this case, I'll make an exception. Although I do like those orange engine pieces. Question for discussion: Which is more airworthy, this or 1436 /4614?
@Endermen39: Why you gotta lump Fabuland in with those other two? I never had any of the sets (in fact I wasn't even aware of the line until the Internet age), but I definitely find the line charming, which is more than I can say for Galidor or Jack Stone.

I know Fabuland was made in the late 70s and was Lego’s first preschool theme, but it in my opinion it looks so bad, maybe even worse than Galidor. I will admit it does look better than the current duplo theme.
I’m not sour about 10928 being a duplo theme. I know Lego didn’t know they were going to remake 928 but it’s just an annoyance.
Also definitely 1436
GET TO THE CHOPPA!!!
Oh wait, not that one.
.....
GET ME A NEW CHOPPA!!!

To be fair, at least Jack Stone is a System theme. It's not much different than Friends. Same for Fabuland. it's not much different than Minecraft.
Even though Belville use some System pieces (and some popular System accessories were created for Belville), a lot of them are not compatible with System. And Galidor and Clickits are totally incompatible.
Wow, that set was definitely a choice. Choices were definitely made, there.

I really like Fabuland. I think we owe a lot to those creepy and somewhat sinister animals. Sure, most of the utensils were oversized, I still don’t know why those trees have holes in them, and certainly it’s not okay for captain walrus to be piloting a steamer with what can only be a giant tankard of wine set out with a waiting cup at the table behind him. But the theme gave us lots of new elements, even new colors, everything from the ship wheel to carpet beaters? Anyway, a lot of great stuff for MOCs. I tend to agree with you about Jack Stone and Galidor, but I’m always interested in learning about new elements for MOCs. Despite whatever cursed theme they came from (looking at you Jack Stone)
I don't know what's the japanese for "can do, will do, done" but they definitely could have done better.

Like you say "in my opinion".
You have every right to have that opinion, but why should it be the only one that counts?
In my opinion Bionicle sucks. It's an annoyance to me that it even exists.
Do I ask for it to be removed from the RSOTD list though?
Of course not. After all, I do enjoy the absurd Bonkle lore that pops up every now and again.
Oh and by the way, Fabuland was a classic Eighties theme. Sure it started in 79, but it ended in 89 and was available in shops up into the Nineties even.
Oooh, better watch your head there pilot guy

If you make a popularity / quality of comment graph, you will get a "U" shaped graph.
Gemstone set: Many comments about what great sets they are, why they love it, LEGO should re-release, etc...
Awful set: Many funny comments, how awful they are, ironic comments about loving them, comparing them to other awful sets, and which is the worst....
Average sets: A few comments, nothing particularly interesting

Thank Ole Kirk that 10497 hadn't already been taken, too. And while I live in the market where the original set's number was 497, I agree with you that it's a shame they couldn't reference the number that was actually on the side of the ship. At least they got to reference one of the set numbers. And they probably couldn't make the number 928497, since sets that get regular release only get five digits. There's probably no ironclad rule that the company refuses to violate, but a six-digit number would look odd among all the five-digit ones at Walmart or wherever.
@AustinPowers: As you say, they're entitled to their opinion, although they may be the only Bricksetter who holds that one in particular. Even if they're not, I think it's safe to say that those who think Fabuland is uglier than Galidor are in a very small minority.

Fabuland ROCKS and you know it.
Just don't stand up otherwise the chopper will chop your head off. At first I thought this would just spin around in circles without a 2nd rotor then I realized there were jet engines to counteract this, Jack's a clever lad. I would place the tail wings horizontal for more lift and aesthetics as not doing much placed vertically where they are.
Fabuland, Clickets, Galidor, Jack Stone, Belville, Scala and 'related themes' are GREAT!
At least, the RSotD experience they can give is. And believe it or not, but some people don't even know they exist. It's always educational to see what used to be and seeing their sets showcased might just reveal interesting part origins and/or historical context.
And as someone who experienced many of those themes, I can say it's definitely sobering to look back on what Lego once tried to do.

Clickets supposedly has some obscure ways to connect to system, but I can't say much about those. But Galidor? It pioneered the turning ratchet joint! If you want you could take 71454 or 80048 and 'glinch' limbs with Galidor parts. I'm not sure why you would want to, but you CAN! (in all fairness, I have seen some great MOCs using Galidor parts in large character builds for shaping.

The worst sets always bring out the best comment threads.
Anyone who says that "My Dad" wasn't the greatest day ever on Brickset clearly just wasn't here that day.
I'm more than happy for the occasional Jack Stone or Galidor or Fabuland set to slip through. Hell, I'm bothered that we don't get Duplo sets. They're more compatible with Lego bricks than, say, Clikits, and where would we be without Huwbot's love of Clikits?
Early Fabuland buildings were boxy, can't deny that, but later sets are beautiful and very colorful. I've always loved the characters and the vehicles. Can't say the same for Jack Stone sets. Aside from larger figures nothing appeals to me one bit.

Which makes total sense. After all, why else would it be called a chopper? ;-)
Wow! I’m one of the 128 who has this set … or who admits to having this set! I found it going through the garage the other year. The minifigure is not so mini.
Jack Stone. Yeah right. The Someone who invented this mistake was obviously into pott in the early 2000's. Shouldnt be his name Jack Brick?
@Binnekamp:
Clikits had exclusive male and female connections, and the female connections would sorta connect to a stud. There were also transition elements that were purposefully designed to link studs to other Clikits elements.

If the RSotD is from a theme you don't care for, then just skip it.
Maybe people don't like these "maxifigs" as they were sometimes called, and the designs aren't groundbreaking, but why the hate? Is it the internet that makes you so angry? These sets were the precursors of today's 4+ sets that use a lot of big, chunky parts and are overpriced.
Also, "can do, will do, done."

Check out Duckbricks recent Bionicle Fanon Golden Skinned Being contest. There’s one MOC that uses Clickit bracelets for energy rings. It looks amazing.

Ehm... according to Bricklink Chrome Green was only used in two sets, ever: 6454 and 6456. And only for that one crystal with 5 points!
So unfortunately Belville doesn't get this point.
Also, thanks! I'll check out the MOCs there later, but I look forward to it! Those contests can bring out the best in MOCing! :D

Ok. I watched a video about unique elements, specifically chrome a few months ago, from SpitBrix and he goes somewhat fast and I probably wasn’t paying attention after I saw the chrome green and since it was a second after the chrome pink, which is actually a good color although I prefer yellow green and purple, I thought the chrome green was from Belville.
The Chrome Blue looks awesome from that space line too.

Well, your original comment was
"Is it possible for @huwbot to remove Jack Stone, Galidor, and Fabluland and a few related themes from the random set of the day randomizer? Few people actually want to see those themes."
which sounded quite absolute. Especially that last sentence, which as the majority of comments on the subject have proven definitely isn't the case.
And yes, you said late 70s, which is true for the beginning of the theme, but the majority of Fabuland hailed from the 80s.
Come to think of it, Classic Space also started in 1979. Quite a good year I would say.
@Ridgeheart said:
"The arms on Fabuland-figs and minifigs are 100% compatible and interchangeable. Weirdly, the same is true for the Fabuland neckjoint (which would also accept minifig-heads on its stud-side) and Technic-heads. You could quite easily make a proto-version of Jack Stone by giving a Fabuland-body minifig-arms and a Technic-head (you monster).
Now I kind of want to take Jack Stone apart. Not necessarily to check the compatiblity of the individual parts with that of other figures, I just want to destroy Jack Stone."
Wait... HOW can you take apart the Jack Stone-ish figures without irreversibly breaking them? I thought the idea behind them was to not be able to so that the 4+ olds won't swallow any small parts. Unless of course they irreversibly break the figure...

Yeah 1978 and 1979 were good years. 375-2 and 928 are my favorite sets. I was unfortunately 30 years too late and my first set was 7639 . I did get a bunch of old 80s sets from my dad such as the Galactic peace keeper, Alien moon stalker along with a few 80s technic and town.
In hindsight I meant to say like those themes instead of wanted to see those themes. That was my bad. Sorry. I was never good at wording things.
The guy does not like these themes, fair enough...
But, at the very core, this page is to showcase a former Lego set.
This is not important, necessary, life-saving information that may have national security ramifications. It's just a (somewhat) older Lego set picked at random (tomorrow it will be another one), that's all.
Could a randomly chosen old Lego set potentially totally ruin the day of someone ??? (I doubt it)

No. That’s never what I thought. I like seeing old Lego sets, sometimes even Galidor but Jack Stone, as cool as the Japanese packaging is, I absolutely hate it. Juniors sets look horrible, my first Lego set was a 2009 camper from city when I was 3, I didn’t have any Duplo or 4+, the figures look like a downgrade from the 80s technic figures and the sets themselves look just bare, probably even worse than the juniors Jays electro mech from legacy.
Look, I don't love Jack Stone and I will happily mock it as one of LEGO's worst themes, but if Huw removes him from the algorithm, I will boycott!
Which, maybe, is what should have happened in-universe when this was designed: someone's clearly trying to take out the pilots: do NOT stand up when that thing is running!
@Endermen39:
Don't really agree w/dropping those categories, nor Homemaker, Scala, or other stuff. I Don't hate Fabuland for example; in fact: I'm of the mind TLG should bring it back with proper antho-minifigures as a 4+, and chuck Disney...but that may be just me.:)
The chopper though reminds me of one by Fisher-Price:

I meant that as a joke. Normally the stereotypical mad scientist looks like/has been struck by lightning.
