Random set of the day: Police Boat
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 30017 Police Boat, released during 2012. It's one of 41 City sets produced that year. It contains 35 pieces and 1 minifig, and its retail price was US$3.99.
It's owned by 3,595 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $4.40, or eBay.

Another great entry of the Forest Police, even if the range from the station in the Undercover game was kinda slim.
I don't trust that smirk. This cop must be on the take.
I ended up buying a heap of these. Take the flashing lights and "police" sign off, and you have a nifty little speedboat (that made for great freight for my train carriages).
The sub theme is forest police. but that is the Lego city harbour not a river!
I didn’t know jet skis came in “innie” versions.
@Maxbricks14:
Forest is on the other side of the harbor. Obviously. Even though cities usually grow to encompass their entire harbor, when they have one.
The forest police wave was 11 years ago???
I love the forest police hats so much! I kind of wish we saw them in more colors than tan and dark tan. As to forest police being 11 years old...*cues Matt Damon aging meme*
I've recently built a boat just like this one. It looks nice and clean. Very handy if you have a town by seaside.
Soooo...this boat is part of the 'Forest Police' line...yet, that's a City 'coastline' silhouetted in the background...either this guy drifted 'down the river', or that ONE BIIIIIIG LAKE...:D
Also: How does the Forest Police (and again: RANGERS) afford a Chinook helicopter...come to think of it: how did they GET A CHINOOK HELICOPTER?!?!:D
Lastly:
Announcer: THIS WEEK ON "SMITH"...
"Ranger" Smith: "You have keep a sharp eye...Yogi could be anywhere...doing anyth..."
Sees a rustle along the lakeshore, with a patch of brown fur...
"R." Smith: "THIS IS SMITH: CODE BROWN, NORTH END OF THE LAKE; MOVE, MOVE, MOVE!!!"

I don't trust that hat.
Sure, it resembles a forrest ranger. Or, the racist State Patrol officers of the Deep South.

The only water in the forest is the river
This one was my son's introduction to Lego, along with 30228 and 30229. He had never been all that keen on Duplo, nor very excited about picking up a pen with which to draw stuff so his dexterity wasn't brilliant for his age. Building these little sets really helped, and triggered a significant City collection being built up over the following years. Its all currently dismantled and stored though, the draw of a Nintendo Switch means that dark ages started early!
30017 is a nice small build, and represents a modernisation of the boat from 6698, this was a great value buy for us at £2 from a market stall. Only complaint, the 1x2x2/3 slope on top of the engine broke early on and surprisingly I've never managed to find another one in black from any bulk lots we've bought since then.
Maybe its just the perspective but looks like the far side of the boat is missing, so he is leaning onto the side to prevent it sinking!

I have only one of these sets, 4436-1, and while I still have the roof piece, the stickered panels and the torso, I have no clue where the hat went! I love the look of these as well, I really need to look for it. I do have a dim memory of stashing it somewhere "safe" as a child, but don't ask me where that was...
I got one of these from a super city haul. Complete too. It's a nice little boat. The outboard motor even hinges up for when not in use!
@PhantomBricks:
That is called a “campaign hat”, famously worn by drill sergeants, park rangers, and Indiana Jones (when he was a Boy Scout). It’s notable for the fact that rain will drain off it in any direction. The brim is flat, and the way the peak is shaped there’s nowhere for water to pool.
@cm5878:
So submit for a free replacement part.
Proof that each man has his price. I have this as it was free with The S*N newspaper - which hurt buying as it is trash, but hey free LEGO.
Coincidently, I looked at this set just the other day, and considering it has been in a box for years, the white has yellowed so much it is hard to believe.
Got this one at my Walmart way back then when polybags were mostly just a seasonal thing. If I recall correctly, I had even built a boat trailer so it could be towed by a police SUV.

Is this a Doctor Who reference? I'm pretty sure I've heard the line in one of the 11th Doctor episodes with River Song...

Correct! It was a bit of a reach, I’ll admit, it was just the way Maxbricks phrased the original statement that made me think of it

"Demons Run when a Good Man goes to War"
Those headless monks (they really are headless, people!) from that episode scared me more than the Silence, Weeping Angels, Cybermen and / or Daleks ever did. Only the Empty Child from the 9th Doctor's run goes before them in pure nightmare fuel. Coming in for the bronze is the 7th to 8th Doctor's regeneration. (He basically melts from one to the other in the '96 TV movie)
