By in United States,

Not 2009 Bionicle. Huwbot knows just how to mess with us.

Also I know I said I wasn't going to be here because of the UK time change, but Discord and YouTube are time vortexes...

Ans speaking of time vortexes, what a throwback with a number of pieces in OG Purple; the best Purple.

600 pieces for US$15. Why can't they still be around today.

Lego packages with giant studs on the top are so nostalgic...

By in United States,

I don't see much of a challenge in building the bucket, but creating it is a bit beyond my experience.

@MCLegoboy:
As the reigning expert on such matters, it was a sad day to see regular purple go away, but dark-purple is far better.

Better get a bucket.

I know most buckets have plain pieces and those sets tend to be kind of basic, but I like them (the buckets). They stack thanks to the 2x2 studs on top and underside recess, hold a lot more than the set it was designed to store, and are as durable as the bricks inside.

To echo comments about the value here, not only do you get a bunch of pieces cheap but you also get a high-grade extra piece in the form of that container. Last time I saw a non-Duplo bucket was I think the City and Friends ones from a couple years ago. And the value wasn’t the same. Those seemed to be less sturdy.

But...the bucket is already 'built' and 'created'...seems kinda' redundant there Lego :D

By in United Kingdom,

Oh dang that’s a lot of purple! I could imagine this selling like hot cakes just from AFOLs wanting that colour

@NotProfessorWhymzi: I'm reminded of a math game my family had on our computer back in the '80s or early '90s called "Funnels and Buckets." My brother decided to make a spoonerism out of the name once and didn't think about what you get if you replace the "B" at the beginning of "Buckets" with an "F."

Ahhhh. This set was current when I emerged from my dark ages, and I wound up getting three copies from an Amazon sale.

It’s wild to think now of how much of a mind-blowing innovation purple bricks seemed at the time. Such things were unheard of when I first played with LEGO back in the ‘70s and ‘80s.

By in Germany,

It's "Bouquet" dear!
;-)

I guess most Americans (or Germans for that matter) won't get that reference, but I loved that show (and still do).

@AustinPowers: I've never watched the show (can't even call its name to mind right now), but I got the reference.

By in Netherlands,

I've never seen this one before. So pretty, all that purple...

And a black cat, therefore it's a halloween bucket! (Totally)

By in Turkey,

Saw the set number first. Instantly thought "12v trains". Clicked the link. Was disappointed. Not as good as 7838. Or 7839.

Waiter: Care for after dinner mint?
Mr. Creosote: I could possibly. I'm stuffed...
Waiter: It's wafer-thin!
Mr. Creosote: Well alright.
*waiter puts wafer in the customers mouth, then dives for cover*

(If you've seen Monty Python's Meaning of Life's 'Mister Creosote restaurant' scene, you will know what happens next. If you haven't seen the scene, don't watch it during any meal, or right after any meal.)

I had a similar bucket-with-giant-Lego-studs as a kid - not this one, 4146, my probably first-ever non-Duplo set (which I was only able to identify because Bricklink has a set image for it where Brickset doesn't) - but I've no idea what happened to it in the end. I had it around for a while when I was very young, but definitely by the time I was building a more serious Lego collection in the early 2000s it had vanished into the void.

I wonder if it maybe got lost when we moved house in 1997. Either that or, I vaguely think, I may have used it to store some toy that wasn't Lego, and when I decided I had no interest in said toy anymore and gave them away, the bucket went with them because it was the only container I had for them, even if it didn't match its contents.

I also am fairly certain I had a couple of the Duplo versions of such buckets too, shorter and stubbier than the Lego one, one in yellow and one in red. But that's only a vague memory so I have no idea if it's accurate or not.

Oh dear, I've gone and stepped in Mr. Creosote's bucket.

@AustinPowers:
I thought of that before even reading your comment. However, anyone I know who has watched them (since they always seemed to be paired into an hour block) agrees that As Time Goes By was by far the superior show (but, to be fair, it’s hard to compete with Dame Judi Dench).

There are still two Classic sets with similar buckets available nowadays. Both solid sets.

I wish there was a Blacktron bucket set.

By in United States,

@bue_car: That is a pretty nice one. And it's from the days when the buckets had handles, too. 4105-2 didn't have the handles, but it did have gold 2x4 bricks, which is why I got it. Maybe someday I'll get back to trying to collect a 2x4 brick in every color they've been done in.

By in Germany,

That really was the best shade of purple... I got the boxed version of this from 2002 - really worth it for the parts, also some funny although very simple models.
