By in New Zealand,

Came looking for a forest. Can't see it, too many trees.

Two types of trees in there I miss: The palm trees and the deciduous trees.

There are a lot of flags in this set so the appropriate name would be: trees, fences and flags.

Trees, Fences, Flowers, and Flags.

Trees, fences, flags, bushes, flowers, and flagpoles.

By in Germany,

Actually a mixture of 2 older sets from 1988: 6316 and 6317 (as well as the precursor to the last set in the series, 6318 from 1996).

While it does not contain as many fences as the older set, it does come with the new ones from Paradisa, that I think look quite good. Also one can never have enough of those palm trees^^

I was very surprised to get a new copy of this in 2005 :) A simple, but very charming and useful set.

A beautiful, tropical paradise.

With evergreens.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really like this box art, 10/10 would live there.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

I was so pleased to get it from a second hand lot, because my town was lacking trees and fences, no joke. It's these little things that makes the town look lively.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Remember when they used to put the round green 2x2 plate on top of the palm trees?

Does anyone know why they stopped doing that, with palm tree builds?

Gravatar
By in Poland,

It's hard to imagine, but even for a 5 year old me, this was a dream set! The palm tree was like a rare pokemon card, and this was the easiest way to obtain it. Same with the monkey in the pirate fig pack!

By in Netherlands,

I miss this kind of set.

That said, I'm more of a 6318 fan myself, but this one is certainly a nice greenery pack.

Also, those fences are quite well-camouflaged!

By in Poland,

I love accessory sets like this. They always brought some life to any Lego scenery.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Like looking at the background for a lo-fi video

Lovely set, my parents were kind enough to buy this.
Lego did produce sets like 40310 and 40376 but those I've never seen in my local toy stores.

I don’t even know why “Fences” even gets a mention, there’s 100 more flags and flowers to fences.

I vote “Fences” out of the title, until they can get themselves together and show up in greater numbers.

By in Netherlands,

Nice set, just a bit on the fence on the colour of the flagpoles.
Never realised that the bush already existed in 1993.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I don't know, I'm a bit on the fence about this one.

Just kidding, awesome little pack.

One Flag
Two Flag
Red Flag
Blue Flag

By in Italy,

From the era when Town was turning into Seaside Resort.

Too bad these packs were so small... you need dozens of these to make even a small half-decent town! But you were lucky if your parents bought a couple of them, so you just used the road baseplates and the entire town always looked like a distopyan giant slab of concrete with some trees scattered around...

Why do I feel so nostalgic just looking at a bunch of plastic trees? Is it the parts themselves or the art style, I'm not sure. Are these parts still in production?

The prickly bush is still in production. The antenna and flag have had minor changes. The antenna was changed from rounded top to flat top and the flag from left wave to right wave.

@johnnytifosi:

The palm tree trunk pieces haven’t been produced in nearly two decades, including variants of the stackable trunk section. Flower stems and sprues, not for six years. Deciduous, not for ten years. Large palm leaf, not for over two decades. Large pine, not for four years. Fence, not for five. Round-top antenna got replaced with a flat-top version four years ago. And the flag appears to have been replaced by its evil mirror universe twin over a decade ago.

Everything else, I think is still in production.

Nice that Xtra sort of revived this style of parts pack. They can make a set go from a fun build to a beautiful display!

Same!! I have exactly one of the deciduous tree, but I wish I had more.

And I'm a huge fan of that palm tree style. They way they build them now just isn't as satisfying for some reason. I have no idea why they quit using those two technic pieces (the base and trunk pieces), but I'd love to see it come back (which I expect it never will).

So, just the prickly bush :P

Also the small pine tree. I forgot to mention that one in my first comment.

Palm tree top, bush, small pine, round plate. And the antenna and flag are still essentially around, just with updated designs.

The mid-sections were made of a softer plastic (probably PE, like many Lego plants), that gets worn out if taken apart to often, so I guess Lego decided they were not worth the risk of complaints, similar to the old style three-finger hinges.

Although I have to say, that I never managed to actually break one of these myself (not even have them turn loose) after countless rebuilds, so maybe there is still another reason.

Also note, there was a single piece palm tree base (with single-piece top) from 1999-2004, that was introduced to replace them much earlier on. Although the idea in 1999 was most likely to fit better in the 'juniorized' style of that era.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Even if they were a little before my time (I didn't get into Lego until the early 2000s), the box art for early to mid-90s Town sets had such a pleasant vibe to it.

Like someone else mentioned, they almost seem like part of some resort town you'd actually want to visit in real life.

if you have some bacon, try rubbing it on the trees. the forest should show up after about 15 minuets. if that doesn't work, try asking an actual professional."

Does it matter which minuets you use? I tried ones by Bach, but all they did was attract more trees. Still can't find the forest. Please send professional help.

By in United States,

Pretty simple build here, but I'm not seeing too many complaints of juniorization. Just goes to show.

(Not sure what, but it shows something.)

Xtra 40310: Botanical Accessories and 40376: Botanical Accessories filled this role recently but that theme has been scrapped.

@Atuin:
I’ve heard of the palm tree sections splitting at the top. There were also two main styles, with either a short plug or a long plug. The short plug was more prone to popping loose if you got too aggressive with the bend in the trunk. The long plug was less likely to pop loose, which may have made it more likely to split the socket.

One advantage of the segmented trunk was that you could change the height. Another odd advantage, to me at least, is that I was able to put a few grey sections in a brown trunk, and make it look like someone was repairing a faulty fake palm tree (I did this on my first Moonbase module, not that that’s a thing anymore).

These days, I figured out how to use dinosaur tails to make a palm trunk, and came up with a completely original design for the fronds. Unfortunately, right after I got the design figured out, they changed the dinosaur tail so it won’t accept a bar through the pin anymore. The weight of the fronds is enough to make the trunk rotate into a lower position, so I had to pin the trunks together with bits of non-LEGO plastic.

I would have said the set should have been called "Fun with flags" but @Murdoch17 beat me to it.

Yes, I would tend to agree. It was always nice to be able to choose from the options available. Too bad the very tall cypress trees are no longer around....
