Random set of the day: Coast Guard 4x4 & Diving Boat
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 60012 Coast Guard 4x4 & Diving Boat, released during 2013. It's one of 40 City sets produced that year. It contains 128 pieces and 2 minifigs, and its retail price was US$19.99/£9.99.
It's owned by 8,493 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $28.80, or eBay.

In response to @Purpledave from yesterday, since my comment was the last one:
That's where I'm at... Misery is an accurately named state. we had the most powerful 7.0+ earthquakes known to human kind (four in 1811 / 12), we get tornadoes, blistering heat, floods, droughts, thundersnow, and back in the thirties we had a dust storms that blew in from further out west, as in Kansas. (no joke!)
Also, if you don't like the weather here, wait fifteen minutes.... It'll change!
Effectively the same set as 7737 from 2008, at twice the price and even a few less pieces. Maybe I did have some reasons for a short dark age in the mid 2010s lol.
This is a modern remake of 7737, which i have. I think 7737 is better though!
@Murdoch17 that’s almost how Mississippi is, I can’t tell you how many times people thought MS was Missouri, the weather is extremely hot here. We get lots of tornadoes, the weather will occasionally go from 30 to 70 and sometimes even up to 80 degrees within a week in the winter. Sometimes rain will only last for 5 minutes and it’s extremely hot and humid rain.
A few years ago we got an ice storm and we haven’t gotten any snow in about 10 years.
Oof, product photo with a sticker that's not fully applied (I assume 2013 was before the digital renders)
I know stickers on curved can be tricky, like set 80043 : Yellow Tusk Elephant stickers on the elephant's shoulder "car" part tend to not be fully applied as well due to the shape, but this is still an official product photo.
I don't have this set, but I suppose 60286 : Beach Rescue ATV from 2021 filled a similar role, despite not being coast guard. (but the design is very similar to the vehicle in 60163 : Coast Guard Starter Set)
Also from 2021, the vehicle from 60290 : Skate Park is very similar to this coast guard car.
If that boat is diving, I think you've done something terribly wrong.

What sticker are you talking about? I can’t see it.
Edit never mind. It’s really hard to see it when you haven’t clicked on the image. I’m honestly surprised someone could see that.
Now this is how I like my city vehicles, 4 studs and with doors.

@Endermen39:
Now we just need a Minnesotan to join in to complete the trifecta of States That Think They’re Michigan (MI).
@TeriXeri:
Bionicle was 100% digital renders from 2001 on, as far as I know. In fact, sets like the Toa Mata can’t physically be posed to match their pod artwork. This might predate the cessation of product photos, though.
@NotProfessorWhymzi:
Submarines don’t usually fall into the spyder category, though.
Took me a moment that thing on the right was just a holder for all the diving gear and not some sort of wacky helmeted robot like we get in Alpha Team and Ninjago
@PurpleDave
I don't have the full context of this conversation, but I will throw in my state as a fellow "No, not that state," state. Iowa! Just need someone from Idaho and Ohio to complete the second trifecta.
On an unrelated note:
All hail the great Vehicular Trailer Set.
All hail the great Vehicular Trailer Set.
All hail...
This was a set we (I) got used early on in our (my) quest to get every City set. That is a never ending story, and there are still a lot of gaps!
But I like this set for what it is. That was when LEGO still did multiple accessories per figure (looking at you, BAM).
I always liked coast guard. It reminds me of sunny beaches and vacations. Also, the color scheme is pleasant.
Ugh, no! No more those horrible life jackets!
I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet, but the Coast Guard is the only military branch that has LEGO Sets, and it's because they're generally a non-combative branch unless called upon in times of war. Often times they are search and rescue, and law enforcement (people doing things on/with boats they shouldn't, or too many boats within a certain area capacity for safety as examples), at worst, they deal with folks smuggling contraband into the area.

Ohio, reporting for duty!
In regards to today's RSOTD, stickers at this period for Lego were trash. They wouldn't stay put. Also, that life jacket was trash as it wouldn't let the minifigure head seat on the torso.
I have lived in California, Tennessee, and now Ohio. Often I myself wonder, "What?" when there is any kind of weather. Surprised often when people here complain about traffic and crowding. If only they knew...
@MCLegoboy: The coast guard being organised as a branch of the military like in the US is far from universal.
Depending on country, coast guards can also be law enforcement agencies or purely search-and-rescue services, and are organised under ministries of transportation, commerce, or maritime affairs.
I like the 2008 version more as that comes with a smaller jetski and one minifig, which makes it feel like there's more as he has it all to himself. It just did more with less parts at a cheaper price.
Even though an inflatable boat is probably more useful when actually rescuing somebody.
@Spritetoggle:
Ohio? Seriously? It doesn’t even start with an “I”!

Oh, I know.

What's round on the edges and high in the middle?
The whole states conversation has left me glad I live in North Carolina, whose abbreviation (NC) is only going to be confused for another state if someone makes a typo and turns it in to North Dakota (ND).
@TransNeonOrangeSpaceman, @Rimefang: Yeah, who approved a life jacket element that makes the minifig look like they have a gaping neck wound?

Snoop Dogg?
@TheOtherMike:
Honestly, I just refer to them as “The Carolinas” because I don’t know enough about either of them to tell them apart, other than that one is north, one is south, and one is shaped like the Superman logo.

SC has even more conservatives, and every third billboard along the interstate is advertising a strip joint...
I like those old-style hats! Also, how are you supposed to fit 2 minifigures in that one truck?

So, just like North and South Korea then?

What? No. I can tell them apart. You can see where you’re walking at night in South Korea.

I don't know what "snoop Dogg" is, so I can't verify if it is or not.
But what *is* round on the edges and high in the middle is the afore-mentioned "Ohio" ;)
@magnumsalyer:
Snoop Dogg the rapper? I don’t think he’s pulled his braids up into Snoopy ears for several years now, so you could argue that he’s no longer found at both ends, but he’s most definitely high in the middle.
