Random set of the day: Boat
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 7218 Boat, released during 2004. It's one of 48 Creator sets produced that year. It contains 26 pieces.
It's owned by 80 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $7.50, or eBay.

Ooh, a thing to research!
1549-2 , 1778 , 1913 , 2139
4035 doesn't exist, and 2025 & 2069 technically don't have names.
Toy Boat.
Toy Boat.
Toy Boat.
Toy Boat.
Toy Boat.
...
I'm done.
Somehow the colours are a mismatch for me. Maybe eliminating the black 2x4 plate for a red one would have looked better, or eliminating the red slopes for black ones. For so small a part count it still manages to look busy.
Hmmm...packaging's 'glossiness' makes it look like it's already under water BEFORE an operator stepped on to it...ohwell:)
Truly, one of the BOATs. (Boats Of All Time)
Aren't recursive acronyms just the best?

Body Odor Armored Transport?
Creator Boat, Creator Boat,
Gappy and thin and doesn’t float!
Can it speed,
on the tide?
Not in real life,
Believe us we tried!
Watch out! Here comes Creator Boat!

It does not float my boat.
Its brother from the same year 7911 looks far superior.
It says designer set, I wonder what that denotes. It does fit the 2004 Lego aesthetic, simple builds with not too much thought put into it.

Gotta be honest, I had higher hopes for "Boat" when I saw my feeder's notification. Not only is the scale of this unlikely to support a $200 remake, it's going to be a VERY narrow subset of fans for whom this figless polybag was a definitive memory. Polybags in general have a narrower pool of memory, since they obviously don't attract the admiring eye the same way that larger showpieces do, and they don't make it in as many catalogues or adverts.
And as polybags go... this STILL isn't a stand-out.
Nemo's gonna go touch that now
It's Boaty McBoat Face!
Ah... I love me some Designer. Creator existed bore this as the Max and Tina basic builds and as parts buckets. But from 2003-2005 we had the Designer set theme. It was basically what Creator is now, just with a LOT more alternate builds. Each set was more of a general theme with parts you can use to build anything within. There were 'main' builds, but those were rarely one single model and they rarely used up 100% of the parts. So much love and care was put into the sets!
The builds were rougher-looking than what we get now, but boy were they imaginative!
This however, is a polybag from the theme. Specificaly the kind you could get free with Duracell batteries or something. So there was not as much you could build with it. But in some cases three of them could build a super combiner model!
And guys what? This little set still has two alternate models! https://www.toysperiod.com/img/cache/58/0x0/d4e4o5g414f4w5w5n4z5m44426a4k4l4y5v2b4w26433u234x2w2z3j4l4f4s2u204q2.jpg
@Koentinius:
Designer was kind of a premium format for the Creator line two decades ago. The polybag/small box sets were nothing to sneeze at, but 4101, 4506, 4507, 4508, 4402, 4403, and 4404 were all pretty highly regarded at the time. They appear to be the spiritual predecessors of Creator 3-in-1, except many of the larger sets allowed you to build the 2-4 signature models at the same time, and included instructions for several other alternate builds.
Once again a distinct lack of eels. Two days in a row
How did I get your phone number? Er, I don't remember. I was just coming back from shopping for a boat.
I'd be on a boat, but I need to be a ballerina to stand on it.

You need to get the Florin expansion pack for those.
