Hmm. Topical.

Did you know that this set was the first to use those track pieces!

I didn't until I read the quick look at 42163.

I am so glad Technic was invented.

I did! The American version of this set, 951, was my second Technic set- my first being 961 Parts Pack.

By in New Zealand,

Fun fact: Those track pieces are still in use today! I learned this very recently.

I wonder where? 42163 must have something to do with it :-)

Quite possibly my favorite Technic set of all time. Brilliant and simple.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Huwbot must be using some RNG manipulation to give us this in such a timely fashion.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I had that set when I was a kid. The gear mechanism was very cool. Would raise the blade and dump the scoop. Wish I still had it

Gravatar
By in United States,

Are we sure Huwbotbusht alive?

There’s only so much RNG in the world.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

Yep, I'm gonna be that guy, I like how these old Technic sets look. Quite simply "Technic", no sugar coat...

Considering the parts available at the time, this set is incredible. Even today, it is hard to find a set of 370-ish parts which look that good and has such neat functions (no pneumatics back then but the designer figured out a way to make it work very realistically). Very nice indeed!

By in Singapore,

two yellow bulldozers on the front page on the same day, how about that!

By in Netherlands,

Nice Part use especialy the brickbuild "Excavator Bucket "

By in Japan,

Gosh, i remember going into my godfather's bedroom and seeing his Lego Technic bricks with all the holes in it, they looked so otherworldly..so unlike my measly Castle sets. Wouldn't mind having a go at building some of those old Technic sets now.

He can see the code, he’s in the system

He is the system. We're ALL the system.

By in Germany,

For me, this is the best of the early Technic sets. Despite the limited range of parts, it looks pretty realistic. All features work fine, and the design has no flaws.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Didn't have this set as a kid. But I did try to reproduce it. Only the chain links as an alternative for the tracks kept getting stuck in the carpet.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This set is glorious. Time to start hunting hunting on ebay...

Technic-shmechnic.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Clever use of two separate gear racks to lift or tip the bucket when turning the handles at the back. The four 40 teeth gears were quite rare and very useful for slowing really fast motors, as shown in the instructions when motorised to go forward or backwards, or if you had two motors you could turn as well. I also really liked the instructions for the 3rd alternative conveyor belt build, possibly hinting at a future GBC world?

By in Netherlands,

I think we accidentally summoned this one yesterday.

I'm not much of a technic guy and I'm not especially into the 70s-90s run. But this one's a classic. In fact I'd say this is up there with the likes of your 918 One Man Spaceship in terms of sheer classicness!

Pure coincidence I can assure you!

By in United States,

Hey, are those studs on a Technic set? Feels weird after seeing so many without for 20-ish years.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Oh Wow! Awesome! Technic!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Actually, this is a tracked loader, not a bulldozer!

Gravatar

.. you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $775.00

What is this based on? As there are none for sale, and none have sold in the past six months.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

My Dad had this as a child and gave it to me a few years back. I've still got it built as the oldest set in my collection, albeit in storage under my bed.

It's a nice set, but all the axles loosened over time so the functionality isn't great.

I don't even see the code. All I see is blonde, brunette, redhead. Hey uh, you want a drink?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have this set. I just found the instructions and the original box. True Technic!

The previous treads, that looked like 1x2 bricks, sucked mightily, as the clips were prone to breaking. These seem to have benefited from that knowledge.

By in Canada,

First proper big set as a kid. I was very much far too young to tackle it by myself, but will forever be grateful mom dropped it on me!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Legendary! Less than double the piece count of 42163 (though probably a bit more than double the price, to be fair), but just look at what was done with that! "Techniek zoals in werkelijkheid"! Okay, I'd think for that to be actually true it should have some hydraulics, but still. Also, not zero, not one, but two proper alternate builds with instructions, and a few more suggestions to do with either just this set or combined with others. And let's not forget the glorious boxes of those days. And then look where we got after 45 years of "progress"....

Gravatar
By in United States,

It fits for the random minifig for the day.

According to my notes it cost approx 70 DEM in 1982.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I remember ogling this in a toy store when it was new (and I was 10) but at the time Technic seemed too different from all my other LEGO so I held off on trying to talk my mom into getting it for me. Might have stuck with LEGO longer had I upgraded to Technic at that point. OTOH, I started playing AD&D that fall so maybe nothing would have averted my LEGO Dark Age.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

This was my 2nd technic set, bought with my own money. Still have it. Quite a few of the track pieces had broken. But when I bought a random lot of loose lego, 6 years ago or so, there were enough pieces in it to complete it again.

I have had the pleasure of owning a couple of these sets over the years. Great early designs, and love the yellow color like a Caterpillar Bulldozer
