Random set of the day: Monster Truck
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 60055 Monster Truck, released during 2014. It's one of 41 City sets produced that year. It contains 78 pieces and 1 minifig, and its retail price was US$9.99/£7.99.
It's owned by 7,852 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $10.70, or eBay.

And in the South, we'd just call that a truck.
Oh, I actually have this set! I loved making it so that the wheels section and the body would separate.
I did end up breaking the lime green 2x2s that were there to stop that, but...
I still had fun.
It doesn't look like it can do many stunts. It has no suspension, and is quite low to the ground.

while i would never even think of taking it through Moab, it would be perfectly adequate for playing in the mud."
It's a stunt truck not an off-roader.
I EMBRACE YOU, LORD OF TOY AUTOMOTIVES. I SACRIFICE MY FRIENDS AS OFFERING FOR THE REVIEW EMBARGO TO BE LIFTED ONE DAY EARLIER ON THE March 2024 Speed Champions SETS. SHALL I BRING YOU MY VILLAGE FOR TWO DAYS EARLIER?? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
If you think the truck does great stunts, you should see what that guy can do with the wrench!
Also, just Racers absorbed by City.
If Huwbot selects any more vehicle sets for RSotD before we get a Speed Champions review or two, I think @R1_Drift is going to have a brain aneurysm...

I knew, somehow, I'd end up being sacrificed for some religion. I guess, I thought it would be to our new AI overlords.

So basically your typical, average, Spontaneously Upside-down Vehicle. Built to look like it belongs off-road, but unable to handle anything larger than a pebble.

Yup. That sums it up pretty well.
Monster trucks do seem to sell well for Lego City, since they seem to be a constant presence, popping up every couple of years in new City lines. I've got most of them, and I can't lie, I do like them. They're big, they're colourful, they're a very visual thing.

In the poetic words of my thrice-great grandmother:
"Always the monster truck, never the truck monstrosity."
Is this the first 2014 set to be RSoTD?

THE DEVIL HAS TAKEN MY RIGHT ARM AND WANTS MORE
Ten years old, but looks like it may go on sale today. Nice, sleek design.
If this was a designer interview post I would have believed it too. I don't rembember this one. I guess at this point City started to blend together for me.

That's just City barely changing for a decade lol
Outside of the occasional innovation like 'roads' and 'actual buildings being the focus for once' or just aborbing other themes to be prduced in its own vehicle-focussed mould.
In fairness though, things started to modernize more after 2019 at least.
@R1_Drift : what's so special about the March '24 Speed Champions wave? Are they made entirely of chrome pieces? Can they levitate? Do they contain the secret to the meaning of life? A map to the Holy Grail?
I don't understand the enthusiasm.
They are going to be like all the Speed Champions sets that came before. A bodyshell, four wheels, a random minifig, and quite likely some randomly coloured pieces inside, sometimes more well hidden, sometimes less.
End of story.
Do we even need reviews for every Speed Champions set? They're all basically the same anyway, aren't they?

You forgot the ubiquitous stickers.
I do like the dark blue one. I don't have one in that color, and my deceased Uncle used to vroom us around in one when we were kids (Fastback model).
Then again, I'm not much of a racing guy. The beer and crashes are fun. Otherwise, I don't see the point. It's just a bunch of small, spolied, rich dudes peeing in diapers while the car does pretty much all the work.
Pretty tame and low-key for a monster truck, all things considered. What’s the degree of measurement below monster? Menace? Is this a menace truck?
Is it just me, or does this look rather small for a monster truck?

I blame Lego's strange policy on pre-orders... 5 in the US, 41 in the UK.
So, in the UK at least, Speed Champion fans have probably already pre-ordered all 4, obviously rather impressive, March releases and are just happily waiting for the (maybe a day or two early) delivery.
(Wait a few months for the inevitable price cut? Pah!)
No reviews needed... just a countdown.
I have very fond memories with this set, although I never got to buy it. Remember building it with instructions online
@Ridgeheart:
“Sunday, Sunday, Sunday…watch monster golf carts smashing regular golf carts, at Mini Monsterama!”
60402: Monster Truck 10 years later
Oh, huh, I recognise this set. Only because it passed through my hands when I was sorting a donated lot of Lego for the animal shelter that I was volunteering at for a while: I was helping them sort donated stock for their monthly barn sales. No-one else there had any idea what the lot was worth, so I took it home, sorted out the complete sets, cleaned them, and sold them on eBay on the charity's behalf. Made a fairly good turnaround for them too, certainly more than they would have charged for the lot if they'd sold it at the barn sale as it was.
This wasn't the only set in the lot by any means, but it was one of the few that I didn't have to do any sorting for whatsoever since it was already fully assembled and complete.
YES! This set really struck my childhood and took place several years ago! I had this set 3 times and I loved it! I really want this set again!
I think I may have admired this one back in the day. Either this or the white-yellow monster truck from a few years later also got implemented in the port of LEGO City: Undercover to all consoles when the WiiU, well... y'know. I played it on pc and whichever of the monster trucks it was, I remember it being an absolute beast there. At least it's got that. I might finish LCU one day, it really is a fantastic game.
Every time I refresh Brickset hoping for a reveal of the D&D set, I see this, initially read it as "Monster Manual," and then the crushing disappointment sets in.... Yes, that has happened more than once.
Not a fan of the color, but it looks better than 60251: Monster Truck...that looks like a moving violation, even when standing still...:)
Kinda' wished I got 4585: Nitro Pulverizer, that was one coolest looking monster trucks, esp. w/ its canopy; but alas...it was in my dark age...oh well.
I love the monster trucks in 60295 : Stunt Show Arena, they are big but the suspension works really good, and as a bonus, the purple Cyber Beast truck gets 2 unique printed 2x6 tiles and a currently yellow unique windscreen, but the Tiger stickers on the yellow truck aren't bad either.
31104 : Monster Burger Truck was even more giant in comparison, still an interesting set, especially with normal wheels, but 60404 : Burger Truck offers a more City sized food truck.
