Bought this set on a discount during my first year of college, one of the roughest periods of my life. It cheered me up a lot in that lonely dorm room, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

So, ground vehicle. Two missiles, and then all it has is chompers and a sidearm.

Air vehicle. Also two missiles, also a sidearm, but also a spare sidearm. And unless you can knock it out of the sky, those chompers aren't much of a threat. If you can, well...

Finally, some Galaxy Squad representation. This is actually one of my favorite Space subthemes, if only for the theme releasing at the right time. I always felt that the Buggoid builds were a bit lacking compared to the 'Sqaud ones- with the exception of the magnificent Hive Crawler- but they at least nailed the color scheme and overall aesthetic.

Also, fun fact- I discovered this has one of my all-time favorite unintentional play features. Similarly to the jumpers from Hero Factory's Invasion from Below wave and the Visorak from the 2005 BIONICLE playsets, pressing down on the back carapace will make the Crater Creeper "hop"

I have PROOF!!!

Yeah but if you do it too much it breaks the legs. Luckily, I bought two and got more legs off BL.

I never got around to opening or building them, but I bought most of the Galaxy Squad sets. Still have them, too.

A Creeper-- Minecraft's Grim Reaper!

Back in 2013, my brother had the idea of a LEGO Galaxy Squad film, I don't remember much other than the protagonist getting imprisoned but being rehabilitated by joining the Galaxy Squad. He also had a moral at the end of the story that I don't remember but hated because I thought it was immature to have messages in movies at this point (I was 8 or 9). It might or might not have taken inspiration from Hero's Duty in Wreck-It Ralph, given the alien bugs, but I can't remember for sure, and this wasn't even my idea to begin with. Will we ever see a Galaxy Squad film in line with my planned live-action Alien Conquest-inspired one? Maybe.

Man, I loved galaxy squad. Or rather, I loved the human faction for galaxy squad. The interceptor and green tank are probably my two favorites. The color coded figures and robots were fantastic. The downside of galaxy squad was that I hated the bug faction. I didn't like the figures nor their builds. If only Galaxy squad's good guys could have been paired with Alien Conquest's aliens...

Regardless, I actually own this set! Or at least, most of it. I got it as a birthday present. I traded away the figures and the hovercraft, but never the big build oddly enough. Since then, I have picked up another green galaxy squad figure because the figures are incredibly versatile.

Ah, yes, the younger cousin of 70708, Hive Crawler. The Hive Crawler, when I move it along the tile floor, is the LEGO set that unnerved our cats. The rattling legs alone was enough to spook them in the other room. Fun times!

We need more bugs today.

Ah, Galaxy Squad. Lowkey one of the best modern Spacw themes. And sadly the end of the 2000s Space themes (the ones after would mostly be one-offs or from The Lego Movies). Good thing we now finally at least have a (more distinct than normal) City Space theme!

Over time I collected all but two.

The 70706 Crater Crawler is not the best. Four out of six legs are fixed. But those mandibles are fun. I always imagined that it supports the excellent 70708 Hive Crawler set with its pincers to move stuff. Speaking of, I actually only meant to get the 70705 Bug Obliterator in a lot that came with those two, but ended up loving the two bug sets too much to part with them. This one I had on sale for a while before deciding to keep it.

Fun fact: the GS vehicle fits in the 70704 Vermin Vaporizer as snugly as the mini car does in the set itself! Which is great!!!

By in Netherlands,

Yes to galaxy squad. The bugs/aliens are so damn good. And the side-kick robots as well. I wasn’t a very big lego collector at that time so i only have a few of the smaller sets, just to get me some of those fine aliens to join Jabba the Hutt.
Thanks huwbot for showing this set today

Ah, Galaxy Squad! The -Final- Space... This one has a speeder bike. And a six-legged walker. And an Alien. And a trooper. You could make franchise out of it.

"the theme that wanted to be Starship Troopers so badly, but without the political satire and all the Rated-R stuff."

"Rated-R stuff"??!!

To quote @WizardOfOss from yesterday, "[I]'m European. We ain't afraid of no boobs!"

[BTW, Galaxy Squad bug sets are crazy fun and well-designed. Anyone who says differently is selling something (probably on Bricklink)].

What are you afraid of? That Brickset, with their new anti-adult, Puritanical, policy position will erase your comment, or just edit out the parts they don't.......

By in Brazil,

I found that set for sale in a local toy store, brand new... in 2022. Still had the price tag from 2013 and all. The store's owner wanted to update the price based on the current pricing of sets but I convinced him that the correct was selling me for the 2013 price that was still on the box.

Got the set afterwards.

By in United States,

Galaxy Squad was a W theme. It'd be cool if LEGO revived it in a GWP set!

Honestly I'm surprised the sets haven't exploded in value. Most of the Bricklink prices are what the sets would probably cost today if adjusted for inflation.

I wish I'd gotten this one. At least I got 70708.
