I wonder how fast you'd have to run to justify that weapon...

GO GO GO! Run like your life depends on it, because it does. If you don't you will die! because the enemy will take over your territory.

Anyway, not sure this weapon would be effective. It's not very manoeuvrable, so an enemy swordsman would dodge the blades and attack from the side. And there is quite a big gap between the two swords, so a minifigure would be able to fit in between them and remain uninjured.

Well, they’d probably get at least a bruise when the cart slams into them.

By in New Zealand,

those vintage sets are pretty cool

By in United States,

Given that the new version of Shogun is currently airing on Hulu, I'm gonna call this one rigged by Huwbot.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nothing like that classic samurai tactic of taping two swords to a wheelbarrow and running at the enemy!

By in Australia,

Watching the TV show Shogun (the one about Japan in 1600) at the moment.
Ninja was a really cool theme taking from the Tokugawa shogunate with reasonably accurate samurai and ninjas with both traditional Japanese weapons and muskets (tanegashima, Japanese copies of Portuguese matchlock muskets).
It's a shame in a way we got Ninjago and Monkie Kid with the overused mechs and dragons and similar tropes, a more realistic exploration of Japanese (and potentially Korean) culture would have been really interesting for a theme.

Don't you just hate it when you enter the comments sections and realise that all the silly jokes you came up with have already been done?

Excellent little army builder set, especially on deep clearance at my local big box.

Hulu-Huwbot cross-promotion.

Movies tell me that things that go in a straight line can only be dodge by running away in a straight line until you find a hole to dive into. 3 dimensions are fake news!

Just like the LEGO Express. Yeah, I already know it's LEGO, I don't need to be reminded.

By in United Kingdom,

Plot twist; this isn’t a weapon, he just got fired and this is him carting his belongings out the office

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

The non-kabaya version is annoyingly hard to find for a decent price.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's a cavalry charge without the cavalry.

The other entry for the same set is less enthusiastic, but more descriptive: 1186

By in Sweden,

Shogun had to walk so the ninja could go.

I do love how Ninjago sets sometimes have a little throwback to this theme. I recently built 70751 and it has the little dragon/bat wing glider from Ninja, which feels nice.

Someday I'm hoping to get a few more of the buildings from this theme. It was the first real non-Euro architecture in the Castle theme, and it was lovely to see. The ninja headpieces didn't really hold swords well; I'm glad they sorted that out with the Ninjago parts, though I wish there was a nice way to combine the old colors with the new katana holders. Ah well.

Ninjago? Naw, it should've been Shogungo!

In all seriousness though Ninjago would've been better with samurai

Having multiple shoguns in your collection sounds like a recipe for a new Sengoku period!

Shogun Go! should not be confused with another going thing from Japan, Pokémon Go. There, see? Not all of them. Allow me to demonstrate further:

By in Germany,

What a weird set name.
At first I thought it's a translation error by the fansites, but apparently it's seems to be correct, the box spells out the name as: Lego Shogun GO (with the 'GO' in romaji for some reason).

It's the rarer Kabaya version of set 1186 which simply got the boring name 'Cart'. I also think the Kabaya version came earlier, as there was a second series for the red ninja wave in 1999, whilst the standard version was released alongside the 1999 release of the first Ninja wave in Europe (yes, Ninja was a 1999 theme for Europe).

It was interesting to see that you got a 'full version' of Shogun Gi-Dan, complete with chrome gold horns and armor, as typically those smaller sets often lacked those accessories. It was neat to get him as such in a small set, but actually there were two other small sets in 1998-1999, that had a complete version of him, so the only other interesting thing about this set is the uncommon brown ladder/fence/front bar piece.

It is weird that all characters of the first wave got names, except the leader of the Robber faction, who is either completely ignored or simply called 'The Robber Baron'.

Oh, and I don't think it's a good idea to use katana the way it's mounted on that cart....

No. Cannon. Cannon always wins.

It’d be cool if they ever managed to produce a replica of this crazy suit of armor:

They could 'cheat' by printing those blade things on a transparent foil.

It's hard to imagine walking with this thing on xD

@Atuin:
If you’ve been watching the new Shogun miniseries (but not the old one), they showed a shot of a suit of armor that looked remarkably like this. There was a flashback, I think leading off the second episode, where Toranaga is attending the old Taiko (whose then-impending death resulted in the power vacuum that everyone is trying to fill). That guy was based on the one whose replica armor I linked to. Neither was Emperor, nor were they Shogun, but the Taiko was effectively another rank/office/whatever that meant you were in charge of the whole country. That being the case, you’d have the potential to be incredibly powerful (or you might soon be incredibly dead), and you’d have all kinds of wealth if you were successful. And if you were successful, you’d probably have some powerful allies and vassals who could go fight the battles for you, so your armor would be largely for show. Armor for show kinda needs to be showy, and that sword-helmet thing certainly qualifies.

Also, a hat that big proves that you’re a schmott guy.

Didn't expect to see a reference like that at the end of that post. Not that I'm complaining at all.
