Random set of the day: T-Rawket Sky Strike
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 79120 T-Rawket Sky Strike, released during 2014. It's one of 10 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sets produced that year. It contains 286 pieces and 4 minifigs, and its retail price was US$34.99/£29.99.
It's owned by 1,403 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $90.00, or eBay.

Hey, is that the classic 2x2 pizza tile I see? That thing was around for forever and a half, it's kind of sad to see it's no longer around.
Oh my god they have the Angstrom Levy minifigure in this set
And this is from the point when they started making seriously mismatched outfits for the Turtles.
I know I collected the entire range of TMNT minifigures, but the sets never really intrigued me very much.
At firts, I thought, "Hasn't this already been RSotD? What happened?" Then I realized that what I was thinking of the time one of the minifigs from this set (https://brickset.com/minifigs/tnt030) had been RMotD. As I said on that RMotD article, I like the retro flying saucer.
@MCLegoboy: Indeed, it would have been great to see that tile in 10312's pizzeria.

Yep. For me, it's a reminder of my failure to get that excellently creep minifig since he was RMotD (I already have Krang). Gotta make it a priority.
Hey that freaky villain was RMotD a while back
Huwbot seems to love TMNT. We have gotten quite a few of the sets and Minifigures selected.
I thought it was Alien Conquest at first, what with that UFO thingy and the convertible space speeder. Then I was disappointed.
I wish I had a set of the brothers, but the original kind, with the shell prints, not with jackets or anything. One day...
That UFO is now a classic. Some of the TMNT sets had strangely good builds for a theme mostly sold because of the minifigs. The turtle sub and transformation chamber were other ones.

The turtle sub has a pretty cool feature. Highlight of this theme for me has to be Shredders Lair.
Wish we had got more sets, I still want a Bebop and Rocksteady
My first though on seeing the photo was that Thunderbird 2 must have gone on a crash course diet
I remember buying this set for the UFO, and the minifigs were great too.
Given the fact that TMNT and ATLA characters got LEGO variants when they got added to Fortnite, a LEGO + Nickelodeon reunion is possible
That's a great looking set. I really like the flying saucer!
For a moment I thought the car was flanked with a STAMP, but judging by the sticker sheet it's actually one sticker per (side of) hull brick.

According to the Bricklink inventory it's the 4150p02 with cross support, which was in production from 1994-2016 and appeared in only 32 sets. Mould variant 14769pb011 with circular support was in production from 2011-2018 and was in just 17 sets. I don't think mold variants were exclusive to any set and since the production periods overlap, this set (from 2014) could have had either.
Compared to the replacement part 14769pb160 (2017-today) the old one almost looks like a citrus fruit with the red on yellow colours.
For me it adds to the nostalgia that the old variant is no longer around.
I remember seeing the bat guy in a Random Minifig of the Day not too long ago

Yeah, I think this was a really missed opportunity to include a 'Turflytle' Mikey minifigure. Although I have to admit, that the color-coded outfits in this set really brought back memories from the old '90s action-figures.
Other than the Turtles' outfits it is somewhat easy to identify as being based of a scene from episode 1 of season 2. Some other sets are a bit ore vague on that regard, especially when considering the smaller sub-builds. Im still struggling to find out what 79100 is actually based upon.

I bought set 31019 in 2014 when relatively fresh out of my Dark Ages. I just couldn't work out how to attach the monkey's eyes as shown in the instructions. It took me forever to realise that there must have been a variant of the 2x2 round tile with a circle support, whereas I had crosses. I never even knew variations of parts was a thing.
I also ended up with two different variants of curved pieces (4629913) in 10213 which meant they weren't perfectly smooth when placed together. At that point I also didn't realise that contacting Kego for replacement parts was a thing either.
The set with the creepy Minifigure we’ve all seen but don’t know the name of! Also has an ATLA glider.
The Mutated Dr. O'Neal might be the ugliest fig ever produced!

Regarding the 2x2 Round Tile:
I got a 79104 Shellraiser (the later version with Technic base) around 2015 (via Lego.com) that had both the cross and round connector version in the same set.
I’ve literally NEVER seen this set before, and I’m pretty familiar with probably 99% of LEGO sets over the past 40+ years!….

Even Shadow Leonardo and Battle-Damaged Kraang? Those and the pizza slice are all I’m missing.
@GSR_MataNui:
He’s not a villain. He’s April’s father.
@Brainslugged:
Oh, that sucks. Hopefully you eventually got the right versions. These days, when they make such a drastic design change, they retire the old Design Number and assign a new one to the new mold. That prevents any mixups like that from happening again.

I never thought I'd see a One Percenter as RSotD...
