The much better predecessor of 6330

Cargo Center? Looks more like a drug ring! I mean, just look at all those white bricks!

By in Australia,

very impressive for something from 1984

FBI, OPEN UP!

Another helicopter? C'mon, pick something different, @Huwbot!

If you squint really hard you can see it start to take shape.
People back then had to have a really great imagination!

With a landing pad this time!

That is a basic AF copter design though. I do tend to prefer the slightly later variant.

They rolled up the landing pad and stowed it when they saw this one approaching.

By in United States,

I so wanted this as a kid.

By in United States,

I remember drooling over this in the catalog. Never made sense to me, though, why it had a helicopter (aside from the fact that kids love helicopters). Who ships things in helicopters. Trucks, boats, planes, yes; but helicopters?

By in United States,

I had this as a kid! It was one of those sets that distracted me from SPACE. What I loved about it was the hinge feature. You had a nice wide building the one way, but a longer building with a side road the other way.

I just thought that was the coolest feature as a kid. Man I had a lot of good times with this set.

By in United States,

I got this for Christmas in 1984. I'm fortunate to still have it to this day, nearly 40 years later!

By in United States,

I wanted this bad as a kid, as a consolation prize I got 6377 Delivery center as Christmas gift, not a bad deal as I love that set too, but still wanted this one. Got one in a LEGO lot around 2000. Wonderful set with tons of play value and great parts (like sliding doors AND a garage door)

By in United States,

This is one of the true classics of 1970s through 1990s Lego Town. I was a little too old for this by the time it came out. I got the earlier 6383 Public Works Center set (which I still have) and that's great - but this one is on another level, basic/unnecessary helicopter and all!

By in Australia,

One of those old sets that's so beautiful to look at, it's almost painful.

By in Netherlands,

I found out about this set's existence and I must say I'm impressed. It was one of the largest from 80s Town, so I have no idea how it took so long for me to discover it, but ah well.

I only found out about it via Brickset.

I find it interesting that people say they drooled over this in the catalogue, because even though it is said to have been available in Germany, it was never in the catalogue over here, nor was it on store shelves of any of the many toy stores I went to at the time (and I went to many, because back then I was seven years old and it was the time I was the most into LEGO in my life, even compared to now). This set would have been at the top of my wanted list.

It must have been exclusive to some retailer that didn't have stores in our area or where I used to visit.

The other fun thing about this set is that the plates had hinges so you could reconfigure the building to the baseplates 'facing away' from one another.

HEY! I am also from 1984 - that's a good year!

By in United Kingdom,

After a brief modular blip I see we’re back to helicopters. Though as this seems to be their base perhaps this is the finale, and we’ll get a new trend

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It’s lovely. We need a new cargo centre in the City theme.

Gravatar
By in Jersey,

Ah man, I’d have been all over this if it was part of the range in the UK catalogue. 6377 and 6383 also, you lucky North Americans!

Ideal for “small size, high value” packages.

Gravatar
By in Croatia,

Lego should remake this set

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

It didn’t need the helicopter.

I can see them making a cargo center again, especially with the harbor set they are releasing

Yes, that’s exactly the reason why I sometimes think having all these detailed models these days has killed some of the LEGO charm. No imagination required anymore. And no analytical skills either for using the building instructions.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Useful parts park for your own creations and looked really great with some train track and a platform for a cargo train.

I wouldn't call it a remake, but Lego produced a very 'lightweight' cargo center some years back: cargo terminal 60169-1 no helicopter, though :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ah, here it is - the greatest Classic Town set of all time!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Funny, just a few days ago with the Flyercracker this set was mentioned as only one of three that used this kind of canopy design for the helicopter, even when it seemed so much more ubiquitous. That just can't be a coincidence....

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

I didn't like the color scheme even back then.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Baseplates! Something that many Legoland Town System sets were known for. I acquired this set as a Christmas gift, followed by the 6392 Airport the next Christmas. They would be the last two large sets I would get. As mentioned previously, it appears this set had a limited area release. I am still glad to have it 40 years later, in an almost pristine condition with the box and plastic inserts. From time to time, it gets rebuilt when I want to remember the simpler days of Lego.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

why a such wonderfull set wasn't released worldwide?

this, 6383, 6390 and 6393 were spectacular sets that we European people couldn't had! Luckly, we could had the "legend" reprint of 6390, 10041!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Top 5 sets I own!

This was absolutely my favorite set back when I was a kid.

Transformers also got its start in 1984, so yeah, good year.

What's inside of those white boxes?

Gravatar

As a kid, I always wanted this because it came with TWO road plates!

Ok. But, my "I'm in Miami, b--" gets deleted?!

Here's the radio friendly version, "I'm in Miami, trick."

Funny enough, it's my son's first favorite song. Mrs. StyleCounselor used to sing and dance around with him when he was a toddler. Mrs. StyleCounselor has some sweet hip-shaking moves, but she has questionable child raising ideas.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It’s amazing how beautiful of a set you can design with just the original basic colors: black, blue, red, white, and yellow (and a light gray baseplate and a green tree and flower stems).

I didn't realise that until you mentioned it! It's great when a set works both ways like this.
