By in New Zealand,

What a terrible image!

It also contains the Avatar minifig's design predecessor!

Yikes, it’s what, 12-wide? For extra-large warehouses only.

By in United States,

No thanks. I'm perfectly capable of lifting my own fork, thankyouverymuch.

By in Turkey,

Not the best Technic forklift, but it has a Technic minifigure. So it’s always good with me. Those are very hard to come by.

By in United Kingdom,

That’s such a blurry photo I can’t tell if the fig is sat in it or has outright fused with it like some sort of mechanical centaur

By in Australia,

I had a fixation with this set as a very young child... in retrospect, its forklift function is one of the strangest ones Lego has come up with (being mechanically much closer to a scissor lift...)

BRING BACK TECHNIC FIGURES!!

If only I could find my TECH003A that I got with set 8620...

Hey, my first proper Technic set!

Well, 8248 was; this is the 2001 re-release.

By in Poland,

That lifting mechanism is cool and unorthodox for technic forklifts. B model looks cool as well. Kind of strange how new and old technic pieces are mixed in this one. Solid set, if it was released now I would buy it.

42079 is far superior, and even features the same A and B models - forklift and tow truck.

I don't know man, there's something special about that scissor mechanism...

By in United States,

So what was the thinking behind this set getting a rerelease? Did the original sell super-well? To my--very untrained--eye, it looks quite unremarkable: just garden variety Technic.

I mean, I love that it comes with a fig, but that was more par for the course at the time.

Chronologically, it was the last set to include one.

I sorta wish my brother hadn't broken the https://brickset.com/minifigs/tech040a/technic-figure-blue-legs-red-top-with-zipper-blue-arms-black-hair-white-helmet that came with my 8640. I only say sorta because if that hadn't happened, I wouldn't have gotten 8712 so I could give 8640 a new pilot. Amusingly enough, that 8712 arrived on his birthday.

This was produced during a dark time for 'original' Technic. However, as Bionicle was also under the Technic banner and launched that year, so it was also a glorious time.

One could almost say It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

A re-release of a 1998 model. One of the few technic sets in 2001. Quite a transitional time, eh?

I always liked the scissor lift mechanism used here. This is what technic's all about if you as me. Not realistic recreations of specific models of vehicles, but cool mechnical functions that recreate real-life functionality.

Looks perfect to be lifting up pallets of supplies for some large scale Blacktron 1 ship.

I always loved the box art for this era of technic. I want to see more of the world suggested behind the sets. I wonder if the full res image exists of said backgrounds still.
