Don't care if you're going to edit it later, it's not the OG Police Station. Get got, straight to jail, don't collect $200.

Oh crap! I thought it was 7744, which is the real OG police station. I own it as proof.

By in United States,

So anyway, this set was originally released with a light-up figure for a flashlight. Not nearly as cool as a lightsaber, but might as well make use of the tech, but it only lasted one year. The guy in the very center next to the dog is the figure in question, they didn't even edit the image.

Why does it look like they're imprisoning the bad guys in a literal cave? I think that's unethical...

That doesn't even make sense. This set came out two years earlier, and not only that, it's nowhere near the first Police Station, even in a modern sense like the one you had in mind. You have to go at least as far back as the 90s if not even earlier to the 70s depending on what aspects you're looking for that sets the tone for all future Police Stations.

So, are there two different sets with and without the light-up flashlight minifig? (Like 7261-1 and 7261-2).

7237-1 has a the light-up from 2005
7237-2 is standard in 2006
They did a similar thing with the Clone Turbo Tank.
7261-1 from 2005 comes with light-up Mace Windu
7261-2 from 2006 is with a standard Mace Windu, but as a consolation prize, they also added an extra Clone.

They were still doing STAMPs during this time. The van I think is one of them. But being the only police set (reissue notwithstanding) on a raised baseplate, I’d give it a pass.

Original gangster. I'm young and I know what it means, like you oldies. It doesn't have to be the first rendition of something to make it the OG it just has to be older and better than the newest version

By in Turkey,

Police HQ on the rocks works, kind of. But same year a hospital set also released, on the rocks! How does that work? That was insane, who designed that? Check it; 7892.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

It's not the best ever made, but it sure was unique, and it was a direct counter-statement to the juniorization era of police sttions whilst taking what worked from those. Interestingly it still uses quite a few of the chunky parts from that era, and the split up build in bags.

Yet, this is the start of modern town - Lego City. And for that I will always be glad this exists.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

This was the set that brought me out of my dark ages. Wandering through a department store with my girlfriend at the time and saw it. I remember saying "oh yeah, that's Lego, I used to love that when I was a kid" to which she responded by buying it. We built it, and the next day I was back at the store looking for more sets so I could build other stuff, and it was all downhill from there! I remember thinking the 3D baseplate was cool as it was the first one I had seen (having not looked at Lego from the early 90s through to the early 2000s.

They did the same thing with the police stations! The non-light up version has one extra police officer and one extra prisoner

7237 may be OG to you in the same way as 381-2 is OG to me. I don't own either of them, though I've got most of 7744 from a bulk lot and a 6384 which was a 6th birthday present awaiting rebuilding.

By in Poland,

This was THE Police Station of my childhood, but sadly, only in catalog. I had every Police set from 2005/2006 except this station and some promotional sets. The raised baseplate really made it stand out and above.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

So monochrome, and with things built straight into/out of the bare rock the thing’s sat on, gives it very strong dystopian future gulag vibes

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Can we please stop bullying someone over the definition of OG. Yes, it's not literally the first police station LEGO's ever made, it's not even the original City version, but it is the first one produced for the theme and the first police station I ever knew when I was a kid. That counts as OG for me.

It's not 'bullying' unless there's physical violence or the threat of physical violence. Otherwise, it's just 'teasing' or 'educating.' Are we really in such a perfect world that teasing is out of bounds? Personally, I'm saving my tears for kids with cancer.

A kid who insists on his own personal definition of 'OG' in the midst of a bunch of OGs, is asking for trouble/education.

That said, I like him. He's got a lot of moxie and gumption to stand up to these ol' heads!

Word to your mother!

By in Netherlands,

I learned something today. I always thought 'OG' stood for 'original generation', but apparently it's 'original gangster', which I also get when I google the term. I feel stupid for never once checking this.... it just goes to show how insidious ignorance can be: you don't even know what you don't know! Thanks for educating me :)

Weird, Yes but I still like it.
Got it a few years back when someone nearby was selling it.

Hospital had printed plants/greenery

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

My distinct memory of this (version of the) set is coming back with it from the Bluewater store in 2007, being driven home when somewhere along the M2 motorway the car hit a pheasant that had wandered into the road. I can still remember looking back and seeing a cloud of feathers.

As for the set itself, it wasn't too long before I dismantled it!

That's the original OG, aka OOG.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The base plate makes this one of the more interesting Police station versions with 3 levels for plenty of play, although does result in some dead space in the front and cell away from the main building which is a bit impractical.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

As much as I like those raised baseplates, this one feels a bit too specialized to me. While it works great here, in that hospital set it looks rather out of place, more like we *have* to use it if we want to or not.

But then again, later on it was also used in two rather different sets, first in a weird mess of a set for a movie that doesn't exist, and than once more but now in way that makes it look like it was designed for that particular set.

"OG" definitions aside, "bullying" definitely isn't limited to just physical violence. Emotional and verbal bullying can have an immense impact too. I went through so much emotional and verbal abuse under the guise of "teasing" and it severely distorted my view of the world for a long time. Just try to treat people with the respect and kindness you'd hope to receive in return, and recognise the damage that the wrong words can do."

Making a case for the potential psychological toll of teasing is your prerogative.

However, misusing terms like 'bullying' and 'assault' only weakens meaning to the point where people are likely to stop paying attention to serious harms.

I'm sure your experience was truly awful. The experience of the young gentleman on this thread was not. Both shouldn't be labeled 'bullying.'

Your situation sounds like 'harassment.' Certainly that is serious enough? Misuse of serious terms usually leads to over-saturation and then, general ambivalence.

If everyone has been bullied, then is it really of consequence or just a general human experience?

Of course, me wishing people were more careful with terms won't make it so.

Just my two bits. ;)

It could lean out to one side yes, I think it was so it didn't hit the main building but it's been many years since I last had it built so could be wrong, it may just have been like that because why not.

By in United Kingdom,

I bought this second-hand complete for £30 a couple of years ago. Built it as is, now I've converted it into a two-storey modular version on a 32x32 baseplate - which is still being amended from time to time. It's a great set.

IMO one of best sets of all time. However, it's 7237-2 and not 7237-1, so the photo with the policeman with a flashlight is a mistake.

Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect...

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers
For he today that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother, be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks

In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage;

That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day!"
- Shakespeare, Henry V

"I still had mine MISB bought in 2006 in my pile of Lego sets.

The box shows the big "7 Minifigures" at the top right, so is it with the light up Policeman or 2nd edition?"

I think you have 2nd edition. The minifig with light had a place in the front of the box where you could test it

By in United Kingdom,

I came back this morning to see where the conversation ended up and now we're exchanging Nietzsche and Shakespeare quotes. It's comments like these that make me love this website.

I feel stupid for never once checking this.... it just goes to show how insidious ignorance can be: you don't even know what you don't know! Thanks for educating me :)"

What about OP. Original poster or original prankster? "

OP obviously refers to 10302."

(THAT'S proper usage of the expression "OG")"

Overpowered. Like using a lightsaber hilt as the base for a flashlight.
