So it runs about until a rescue is needed?

Sounds about right!

And where does the rescuee sit after being rescued?

They don't sit anywhere; they run about.

By in United States,

A runabout; I'll steal it! NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW!

By in Malaysia,

Is this a Honda CR-V (comfortable runabout vehicle) or RR-V (rescue runabout vehicle)?

Aren't our first responders just absolute geniuses? Let's give them a big hand!
(Totally not condescending at all)

Hey if I need help I don’t care if he gets to me by skateboard as long as he’s there in time.

Guys, guys. Obviously it's the runabout that's a rescue. It's just waiting to be adopted and find its forever home.

By in Australia,

32 years old and it still looks like it could be released today.

You can tell when school is out because the level of comments gets infinitely less interesting.

Stay in school, kids.

Always!

By in Turkey,

I'm all for classic sets but couple of things bother me with this set. I'ld have expected some kind of rescue tool or something in an emergency response vehicle. And also the front headlights, in the middle... Nope, this set doesn't work for me.

Cpt. Sisco: "I'll just take a Runabout...OH-COME-ON!!!" (well, they were the most prevalent vehicle on ST:DS9 until the Defiant:))

By in Belgium,

Normally this size of a fire car in the Town theme is called fire chiefs car. It seems to be more varied in the City theme

Gravatar
By in United States,

That firefighter goes all the way back to 1981 with that uniform! Uniformity!!

Nah, nowadays it would be studless design with round 1x1 tiles and some curved slopes.

Like a monster truck and a go-kart had a baby…

Sorry, I’ve been distracted by building my Mega-Mimic (frankly, I’m only here now because Bricklink is running the nightly backup, and I need to look up a couple more parts).

Nice to see the Brickset community making everyone feel included as always.

It's a disguised Danube Class Runabout from Star Trek , they didn't want to break first contact rules going to a lower tech planet, or timeline :)

Interestingly, the timeframe of the first appearance of the Runabout in Star Trek (episode 1 of Deep Space Nine), is quite close to this set, this set is 1992, while the episode first aired 1993.

If the designer had some more imagination with a winch in the front and a hosepipe reel in the back then this would have being more fun with the fire-person hanging down a mountainside while putting out a fire!

60393 in 2023 had a small rescue fire truck along with a separate tree build and came in at just 93 pieces and 30585 is not that different to this and has just 45 parts.

By in Netherlands,

I remember reading in a review that this set kind of sucks for what it depicts because it has no accesories. I never noticed it before, but it indeed has nothing. I'm used to 7241 Fire Car (which has a fire extinguisher and axe), so it's weird that this set skimped out on all that. As far as this often remade type of set goes, that makes it lose points fast!

As for some of the comments above and on the RPotD about 'the quality' of Brickset comment sections: what are you actually trying to say? Because it comes off as condescending to the ones posting. Would you rather that people leave? Do comments you find to be below your standards irk you so much that you have to call it out in at least two threads? EDIT: now 3 with the RMotD.

Personally I would rather educate people and try to raise the quality of disussion by leading with example if such a thing bothered me.

Let's just be nice to others. It's not that hard!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I remember getting this as a kid, it’s still somewhere in my collection.

To the comments about lack of accessories, I don’t think it needed any, imagination was enough for a firefighter and his 4x4

This was my first lego vehicle. Fun set!

So, you ascribe the least interesting comments in this particular comment section to school-age kids. I see. What grade are you in?

I assume the 200 piece count was satirical, but you just proved my point. All of these are studless and sloped.

Studless and Sloped is the name of the punk band I am making for my Lego city.

By in Sweden,

I was thinking I had a ton of these, but it turns out what I have is 1702. And when you compare them, oh boy, is this a much worse set. Welp, parts are parts, and you can make 4x4s and other stuff with them.

Confound those Dover Boys references! Oh, how I hate them! They drive me to drink! *Dashes off to the bar for rapid-fire shots*

That explains why I thought I had this one, I have 1702. So you're not the only one who's confused about this RSotD.

It's always nice to see sets with significance to you show up as RSotD, isn't it? I remember seeing 6235 (which was far from my first Lego set, but was my first Pirates set) show up here.
