Random set of the day: Battle Droid on STAP

Today's random set is 30004 Battle Droid on STAP, released during 2009. It's one of 36 Star Wars sets produced that year. It contains 28 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 3,061 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $17.60, or eBay.

STAP in the name of the separatist allegiance!
Pretty solid design for the STAP because the stand was not integral to maintaining its design. You either had to clip something to the bar or insert a stud into the hole in the back of https://brickset.com/parts/4124425/brick-w-shaft-1x8x1 that didn't connect to the rest of the body. Now you could do all sorts of things with a free floating STAP, which is not much, but the option to display them flying by tall vertical surfaces with a different clear piece horizontally, or even just giving them a slight angle with the pre-supplied stand via a different connection point was appreciated.

As far as official sets go, it's certainly better than some other designs. I honestly wasn't happy with any of them, and got an idea on December 9th last year, so I ended up throwing together a much smaller design. It cuts two studs off the vertical spar, shrinks the engines to two plates thick, the wings are as tiny as possible, and I even added a footrest for the pilot. Now, my version is in Christmas colors, but it should be possible to build it in a more normal color scheme.
How is it that there are so many coincidences with RXotD? I was adding the STAP from 75372 to one of my MOCs earlier, and today - a STAP for RSotD!

My first STAP was 7121 an it looks very primitive compared to this. I've managed to build one in this style couple of years ago. Much better of course.

It is a polybag. If you want more droids, get more polybags. This is the ideal way to army build, as it allows you to buy exactly how many you want without needing to buy bigger sets with all those annoying bricks.
Always feel like these got underutilised in things like Clone Wars given how often we got shown skirmishes happening away from larger battles, where something like this could be a real terror. All those time the Clone Troopers hid from droid infantry behind convenient cover that something like this could have ousted them from in a few moments
Never seen this one in the wild. A great polybag as it actually allows army building and contains a vehicle that's canon!

just woke up why the heck do i have 7 notifications what happened all i did was say roger roger
I remember one time me and my brother were playing Lego Star Wars 3 and the console crashed on one of the battle levels. When we loaded back into it, he was a clone or something as player 1, but I was a STAP on it's own, as a character in the bridge of the ship.
