Random set of the day: Wave Cops
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 4012 Wave Cops, released during 1996. It's one of 3 Boats sets produced that year. It contains 99 pieces and 2 minifigs, and its retail price was US$20.
It's owned by 1,858 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $139.90, or eBay.

"Waves, put your hands where I can see them!"
"You have just failed to let that surfer ride you. We are taking you back to the station now"
What is this, the hottest new Hulu show or something?
This is but just the first wave. Waves 2 and 3 will put the real crackdown on crime.
Neither of them are waving, I want my money back
As opposed to the Hand Shake Cops, or Polite Nod Cops.
I had the last police boat, which was enormous and awesome, but I liked this one too. It was zippy and a little bit sexy.
Another set whose name is a complete sentence.

and the cold stare cops, or the unfriendly no talking cops.
this set can be motorized by a propeller module not built by lego, but the instructions are so cryptic about what to buy i don’t think anyone ever has ever done it
One of my earlier Town sets, featuring Officers George and Anthony, who ended up being first cousins.
It wasn't a particularly complex set--that hull is doing a LOT of the work, but there were some cool bits included with this set, including the printed 2x2 tile, the cop-on-phone printed 2x2 slope, and the sloped mast piece atop it all.

Yeah, the instructions for 4011 said those were available, and, while I had no idea where I would have used it (or, as you said, where to get one in the first place), I wanted one.
Part of the last wave (no pun intended) of Boats as a separately branded (and numbered) theme from Town, though it clearly matches the style of the police Town sets released the same year (https://brickset.com/sets/theme-Town/subtheme-Police/year-1996). When the next wave of floating boats came out in 1999 (including 6433) they were clearly incorporated into the Town (Jr.) line.
Wave Cops!
High-five criminals!
Handshake civilians!
Cave wops.
Are the cops waves, or do they police waves? Or both?
BAD BOYS BAD BOYS
Putting a new meaning to 'fighting against a wave of crime'
This set is nostalgic for me as it was featured in some catalogs I owned. It was so mysterious what was inside. Now I know with the power of the internet, but it and its fellow boats will always be special to me in that sense.
