Random set of the day: Swamp Jump
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 70111 Swamp Jump, released during 2013. It's one of 58 Legends of Chima sets produced that year. It contains 91 pieces and 1 minifig, and its retail price was US$14.99/£9.99.
It's owned by 1,624 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $12.00, or eBay.

I must admit, those speedorz are quite fun.
I reckon they are the origins of the City Stuntz sub-theme. And the origins of these are Ninjago spinners, with the cards and all.
You can't fool me. That's not a swamp. That's a fox!
Just got this one off of Bricklink actually! The jump ability isn't the best, but... exclusive minifig

Still enjoying Chima averagely, huh? Although you no longer publicly admit it.
Just started watching Legends of Chima to see if I'll catch anything in Ninjago because of the merged realms and uh... yeah it's not good. I know I'm 30 watching a show that's 10 years old and was made for kids that were barely 10 themselves, but man, it is a rough watch. Still only 5 episodes in, I'll keep going because I am intrigued as to just how bad things can get or if it gets better, but I don't have high hopes.
The only reason I have this set (actually I have two) is because they were gifted to me, but just from watching the show, I likely would not have been enticed to buy sets.

The only LEGO show I currently watch is Ninjago, and I don't plan to change that.

Which itself looks like a really creepy costume.
Required to post my love for speedorz here :) . Great little concept and cool figure in this one!
QUICK LORE!!!
Furty was a Fox... and the only Fox we actually meet in the show, he's a nomad without a tribe
He competes in speedor races sometimes
The Ravens once hired him to steal things from the heroes... I think...
uh...
QUICK LORE!!!
Speedorz are fun.
I'm almost certain I bought this set -- like a lot of these smaller Speedorz sets -- purely to keep the figure, and the sell the other pieces back on eBay.
I found the sets hit-and-miss, particularly early on when the Chima set designers were still finding their feet. Some of them were wonderful, some, not so much (and I didn't care much for the Speedorz gimmick), but I showed up for the minifigs, which I absolutely loved. I think I ended up collecting one of everybody, even if I didn't buy the bigger sets.
Why did they make his head a minifig helmet instead of specialized head mold? The eyes being on a lower layer than his head makes him look more like Leatherface as a Furry than a Fox. Especially with the head color making it look like he got bloodshot eyerings.
This set is where Chima really jumped the... swamp.
It costs less to buy it now than when it was released! I guess it never could make the jump across the swamp in value.
I can understand why people tend to collect minifigures rather than sets. It's cheaper, takes very little space, plus they are very colorful and varied. But sometimes, Lego lashes out some very nice and interesting sets. Those I do not want to miss.
What a weird Fabuland set. I mean, they were all weird, but man…what was going on with this one???
I only got one Speedor set, but they were fun. Somewhat better value than the Ninjago Spinners as well.
I’m not seeing a ramp to actually jump from so I think this is going to be more of a swamp splash
I didn't get this one. What is the goal here? Is it like a high jump, getting over the bar without knocking it? The lime ramp looks a bit feeble.
What is the reason for the hinge plates?

To connect the plates when building and add some fun variety to your collection!

Likely a stronger right angle joint than using a corner plate - 2 studs of contact on each part vs. 1 and 2 stud contact leaving one edge weaker.
Could the speeder actually make that height? The ones I've found in bulk lots before I didn't consider using on jumps before I passed them on.

I believe, if you examine the evidence, it’s a fox wearing a fox costume.
@Eightcoins8:
Using standard minifig heads underneath allowed them to print two faces, so you’d have alternate eye expressions. Usually. I know the Croc tribe, at least, has one generic unnamed warrior with only one face print, because I used it to make Killer Croc from the first Suicide Squad film.

Hmm, I imagine using a 2x10 plate and fixing it with 1x4 plates at the sides would result in a cheaper production cost, so I wonder if there was more to it...
One of the two seedorz with exclusive minifigs from year 1. I remember at the time that this one might become a collectors item later because of the fox fig, which might be a furry magnet. Guess I was wrong.
Besides that, I find it fascinating how stretched out the budget was for this build. You build something substantial in footprint, but boy is it thinned. You don't see that too much nowadays. Now everything is smaller but built like it's a single brick.

But what does the fox say?
(I'm asking the real important questions today...)
Its Foxy from FNAF.

Okay, I've slightly spoken too soon. 10 episodes in and I'm starting to become invested. Someone please send help!
There's a store near me that still has these in stock, nobody wants them *smh*

I'd say the KK2 card/shields things were even more of a progenitor than the Ninjago spinners.

TBH I only watched it for background on the sets.
The humor was corny, the writing was meh, the voice acting was meh, the characters were decent, the animation was pretty good, and the soundtrack absolutely SLAPS.
Have this set, and only thing I question: why did Lego connect the tail at THE NECK...just weird...also, it was neat to see TLG recycle the figure (in the same 'wave' too) w/70107 Skunk Attack...re-'skinned' as it were...:D

"When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a ramp on a swamp, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. And that's what you're going to get, Lad, the strongest ramp in all of Chima."
@brick_r:
I know, right? I really would have preferred to use this tail for Squirrel Girl, but between the color scheme and the neck connection, it just wouldn't work as needed. And of course, they stopped making this style tail after two uses, which means there won't be any new color options going forward.
Furty here made us Star Fox fans very happy. Perfect head for the purist custom Fox MacCloud.
I was never a big Chima fan (too furry for my liking and the TV pilot didn't impress), but my younger cousin was slightly into it. The most interesting thing about it was picking up some of the 2014 Constraction sets in my trip to Europe because they didn't release them in the States (despite apparently showing up in Club Magazines??) which became even funnier because literally the day we departed to fly back home, TTV reported on the Bionicle G2 display leak.
The Speedorz had a bit too 2bular name made of cheez for me to take seriouzly, but those metal wheels could *zoom.* I bought 70101, mostly just for the new wing pieces since Kid Icarus Uprising was one of the most important games of my life at the time. The biggest problem (at least with the Year 1 ones, I didn't get any of the redesigned Year 2 ones) was that the rip cord wears against the themed "hood" piece that attaches to the generic chassis, and the fact that active play would damage the parts made me avoid investing in them like I did with Ninjago spinners in 2011-2012. Maybe that's why they were redesigned in Year 2 to have the rip cord go in horizontally instead of vertically? Any (average) Chima enjoyers here have the experience to say so?
I always thought it was interesting that this guy didn't have a chi orb on his chest, although he did have a bib covering where it would be.

The lime green 1x2 cheese slopes are meant to be the ramp. It works fine, but trying to clear the bars is the real tricky part.
I get last word on the Chima post OfC
I'm actually working on writing rules for Speedorz. I know it already has rules, but I'm revising them to suit longer games and get full use out of the various weapons, characters and challenges.
So... yeah. Kinda funny that a set I got a couple of days ago shows up as RSotD!
