weirdest set image ever! I've never seen a set that has an image of both the box and build. And the box is huge for a set that size.

And it looks like something a 4 year old would build.

No, boat go in water, not air.

No cargo space. Cargo ground.

Nah. Have you forgotten all the Technic RSotD images that didn’t even show the set?

The box size is probably determined by the size of the included comic.

Eh, nobody died, and the pilot was exonerated. I’ll allow it.

Is that Axel from Rock Raiders?! What is he doing here?

Following the current RSotD pattern, tomorrow we will have a water car.

Well, a hydroplane is a type of boat, and a flying boat is a type of airplane, so yes, that's true!

Axle is canonically a three-time LEGO World Racing champion when he isn't mining on alien planets, so it's not too surprising that he also got a gig doing some high-speed stunts for LEGO Studios somewhere along the way.

In all seriousness, Studios reused a fair number of minifig pieces from Rock Raiders. The cameraman is Docs and the stuntman is Sparks.

Nope, it isn't. That size was the standard 'impulse set' (= 'early EU polybag') from 1999-2004. Interestingly enough it was almost the same as certain earlier standard box sizes (the 4th smallest if recall correctly) just a bit thinner than usual. But nice that you mentioned those comics that came in this 4 set series.

Regarding the comic it was a bit off-style from regular in-set comics of the time like Rock Raiders, Star Wars and Dino Island. I think I even read once about the studio who made them, but I don't remember fully.

The 4 sets were kind of a different color each (red, blue, green, yellow), but didn't really feel like having an over-arching topic (Studios basically being 'you can kinda do everything'). This set stood out a bit more, because it was the only one not to contain a regular Studios minifig, but a Rock Raider instead! I wonder why they choose 2 'stuntman' vehicles instead of including the missing Studios characters 'Grip' or 'Assistant'.

Also: Hey! One of the few times (maybe even the only one, not counting Racers 2) Axle appeared outside Rock Raiders!

Also I think that green 2x4 slope was a bit rare at the time...

Gaseous train?"

I’m running off the rails in a gaseous train!
Ahem.
Anyway, the pattern seems to be lowering the vehicle’s designed altitude (airborne plane to sea level boat) while attributing it to a higher one (a plane rising from atmosphere to space, boat rising from water to air). So logically the next set should be the Road Submarine.
It’s just science

By in Turkey,

Looking at the size of the set, it should have been US$3 or 4 tops. That added comic better be good for it's money.

Was that from Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Kahn: The V’GER Cut?

By in Netherlands,

In 2022 I found this set on a flea market, still in a beat up box. It was so nice to build something from 2001 in new condition again. I like the little set for that reason, but also for just looking great and having a cool minifig (Axel, but with an enclosed helmet with black visor. What's not to love?).

Perhaps it's become confused with the Seinfeld rendition.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CYcwqCsDeTo"

Considering that many parodies have Kirk screaming at the sky (which, again, he did not do in Wrath of Khan), very possible. Or maybe both elements were already showing up in parodies, and Seinfeld just went with what the writers considered more recognizable.

I've got both the DVD and the Blu-ray, plus a recording on VHS from a BBC broadcast in the Nineties, and in all versions does he draw out the name a bit. Maybe not as long as in the meme, but it's definitely drawn out.

I just love it on Brickset, because only on Brickset would a LEGO set containing an airboat spawn a comment chain about how Kirk responded to Kahn abandoning him on that 'dead' world. Don't ever change, Brickset... your wayward discussions are too precious to humanity.

(It was KHAAAAAN, by the way)
