"You better drive carefully or I'll scrape the cab off that truck!"

I got this set for my 7th birthday in 1973. Still have it , excavator is still complete, but the big red plate and the special black plate from the truck are broken.

Wasn't that a James Bond movie?

Seeing this set makes me want to research the history of usage of strings in Lego sets...

Also I kinda like those printed clear doors. Though the ones I have show me why they are no longer in use.

And anyone who doesn't know that steering mechanism, look up this set's inventory xD

Love this one! Still have the other version. Among the coolest sets of its era.

Wait a minute, that Lego logo brick isn’t even connected! That’ll fly off the minute that low-loader gets up to speed!

That brick is how you steer the truck.
I remember having this set as a kid. I spent hours manouvering the truck and trailer in and out of tight spaces. A bit like taking an HGV test…

By in Netherlands,

I remember finding out about the steering from old sets from this era. My mind was blown!

That said, the front-facing position of that scoop feels wrong to me. Like it was put on the wrong way.

Did they include a printed brick with the old logo while the box used the later one?
Nice classic doors though, I didn't realize that the window stripe was exactly a brick tall and could create contiguous windows like that.

Doors, steering, so many functions. And it’s 50 years old!
