By in New Zealand,

Mindstorms was a very good move by Lego, they were a lot of fun. I remember programming them back when I was at school.

That robot is rocking one epic mohawk.

I wish the Zamor Launcher could stay for more time after the EV3...

NXT's weird brother. Not much to say except it looks way less inviting and I don't regret the fact it came after my Lego League tenure.

"Johnny 5, is ALIVE..."...well, that's who it reminds me of...or Wall-E...or the the Nokia-bot from "Transformers" (funny how many 'bots' this makes me think of...:))

By in United States,

This seems like the last time Lego has done a subtheme focused exclusively on heavily implied bad guys rather than the modern "conflict in a box." It's strange to put this in the same category as Blacktron, but EV3 is obviously just "NXT but Ev3l and cooler now."

By in Spain,

I’d love to introduce my kids to robotics through Lego, but it’s really hard to justify any investment knowing they’ll likely keep changing the standard every iteration.

You might want to consider makeblock (I receive NO compensation for this). Robotics can become expensive really quickly. These kits are reasonably priced and you will see if your kid are interested before committing the big money (I bought all sorts of expensive toys/educational kits for kids who had not even a passing interest for them - so I suggest starting small but with an option to grow)

By in Turkey,

I remember hearing so much about this set, how advanced it is and what not. But I do not do power functions because sets with power are, lack of a better word, a brick without batteries. Other than that one of the builds in this set was a sweet scorpion robot, which was extreeeemly cool. I don't know what it does though :)).

I paid $1k for a bs certificate that my kid received for a summer robotics class at a private college.

When there were five college-nerd kids clapping and chanting, and doing their best to invoke high-school cheerleader enthusiasm at the 'graduation,' I bothered to ask Mrs. StyleCounselor how much this boondoggle had cost.

Make your kids suffer work and/or boredom. You'll see what they're truly made of.

P.S. Kid sports is infinitely more expensive than robotics.

By in Poland,

It was the peak.
Why they decided to make new one so Baby-coded? Noone knows.

By in Ukraine,

Truly a legendary set for its times.

By in Netherlands,

What a terrible ppp....

....yet still an awesome set! Never got into Mindstorms, but seen so many cool stuff using those components. Too bad it got discontinued.

By in United Kingdom,

The set lasted 7 years and was useful for home use for kids who wanted to continue with the Mindstorms that they had come across in school and summer clubs. Now there is just Education Spike which is too expensive for home use or for most schools to swap over to when there are cheaper alternatives.

This is what would happen if you fused WALL-E and EVE. Got on it, Pixar!

Pretty sure this version prefers to be called Johnny Jive.

I'd definitely agree that sports for kids has totally gotten out of hand. I was hardly ever in team sports myself but I was into alpine skiing: initial equipment purchase can be steep and the season passes were not cheap either. My father certainly put me through the work/boredom phases - I suppose it works.

I remember getting this Christmas day in 2014- I was so excited. This set served me well until a few years ago when one of the large motors burned out- I still need to buy a new one.

Could be worse. You could have gotten into polo, and then you’d have to worry about feeding your equipment as well.
