Oh he definitely reads the mail before delivering it. That's the kind of villainy you can come to expect in Fabuland.

By in New Zealand,

If it's describing Both Boris and the mailbox, why doesn't it mention the bike, or the telephone?

Perhaps Boris is a cyborg and those are just extensions of his form

Do you think Boris feels compelled to bark whenever he enters someone else’s yard?

Nobody marinates the neighbors in the bike or the telephone.

Looks like an animal crossing set; is this where they got their influence?

I once received a package in the mail emblazoned with a hand drawn Boris Bulldog delivering me a package... from the Brickset Secret Santa on our forum. Interested? Go on the forum and check it out.

And yes, Fabuland is fantastic.

Apart from dark secrets within the Fabuland, I love the vibrant colors of the land.

Using an illegal connection to carry the mail around? For shame Boris, I shall have to report you to your superiors

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Sooo...he's a dog...who delivers the mail...does he bark at and chase himself???:D

And well, yes 'Animal Crossing' kinda fills 'the niche'; I do believe a return of Fabuland in a Juniors/4+ capacity would be good, and if 'proper' minifigures...theme park mascots...sports team mascots...sidewalk advertisement...

No, he offers tea to journalists asking questions he doesn't like so he can get out of answering.

Because the bike and telephone don’t have a soul.

Was there also a Boris Bulldog with only the mailbox, and without the bike and telephone? Because i remember having him, but then as a even smaller set.

The best thing about Boris is that he looks like a cartoon character from the early disney days or max fleischer

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?M=fab2c&in=S indicates this is the biggest of 3 versions

It's a tile so is therefore legal.

That got me wondering if the red telephone is a direct line to Big Brother, based on what he found in the letter.

"Boris Bulldog reporting in, sah."

No. There are loads of stories, whether books, TV, movies or toys using anthropomorphic animals.

No, it isn't: this tile has not any groove.

Boris Bulldog eventually was fired for using his Job to help the mayor cover up "mysterious disappearances" of other Fabuland residents.

If anything, it all makes me think of the Richard Scarry books. He surely hasn't "invented" it either, but played a big role in popularizing anthropomorphic animals in a modern world. Loved those books.....

Or maybe he's the Post Office's solution to the problem of dogs attacking postmen. Fight fire with fire.

Holding a tile like that is not groovy, dog!

At the time, characters in Fabuland were similar to "Hector's House". But yeah, before that there was also Pinky and Perky, plus loads of clothed talking animals in Disney, and before that Victorian books with similar animals.

Yea, alot of the current Lego Animal Crossing Theme is taking cues from Fabuland. Similair big prefab pieces too.

I’m not sure if that actually does show one or more illegal techniques. Groovy tiles pinched between studs is okay because tiles aren’t as thick as plates. I don’t know if this is true of the older, non-groovy versions. And minifigs are only allowed to grip the edge of a tile because the groove reduces the size of the part they grip, but Fabuland hands have an open “thumb”, where minifig hands are fully C-shaped. This might be enough to make a difference.

Fighting dogs with dogs is called dogfighting and it's illegal!

Another thing to add to the pile of morally reprehendible things happening in Fabuland's dystopian neighborhoods.

Wow, reading peoples' mail? Espionage? Illegal dog fighting? I had no idea Animal Crossing had so much intrigue, I might have to play it.

Animal Crossing doesn’t. That came first, before the Orwellian Fabuland, and the post-apocalyptic Chima.

By in United States,

Normally Fabuland sets have gruesome undertones of prey and predation. But this set is devoid of any sweet little lambs to devour, so maybe it's finally the ideal of innocence and charm that Fabuland was obviously supposed to be. Let's see…

Oh, what's this? The mailman is phoning in on a hotline right after collecting the mail. That's, uh, not sweet and innocent.

So was the prey trying to organize a resistance, but weren't aware the mail was being searched? Are the carnivores spying on Lucy Lamb to see when she's planning to visit Auntie Bianca so they can eat her when nobody's looking?

Guess I'll have to wait for the next Fabuland set to finally get one that's not quietly diabolical.

All of those letters are filled with chocolate. They were an assassination attempt on the Dog Mailman.

Ugh. I was shopping the other day, and overheard a mother, who had just gotten off the phone, explaining to her young son that he'd left all his Halloween candy out, and the dog had noticed. Big dog, from the sounds of it, so she didn't seem too worried about its health, but it probably made two large messes to be cleaned up.
