Random set of the day: Cargo Truck
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 60020 Cargo Truck, released during 2013. It's one of 40 City sets produced that year. It contains 321 pieces and 3 minifigs, and its retail price was US$39.99/£24.99.
It's owned by 7,992 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $66.30, or eBay.

I'm pretty sure that I got this set to get a forklift, although that little engine build may well have served as added incentive.
There is something I really like about the early 2010 City vehicle sets.
Seems like a remake of 7733 !
I wanted a bunch of these because I love the box truck design, but the $40 price tag kept me to one.
Got this on sale. Great little set to help build out a city. Works great with the 6391 Cargo Center, 60052 Cargo Train, and 6377 Delivery Center. I like having a little cargo story for the police to protect. Or Super Heroes. Or whatever other characters I mix in for fun!
@markisnot:
I'd rather just have the superheroes. On average, I display with my club more than once a month, so they provide more "stuff to protect" than I could ever afford.
Now this is a well priced set, not this awful 60440
This minifigure is forklift certified!
Let me guess, another Target exclusive? Or do I just not remember the design somehow?

I'm not so sure about that 7733 was a tandem trailer, had different cargo on the pallets, and only came with two minifigs. It also didn't have a hand truck.

Availability is listed as “retail”, which suggests a general release. By 2013, if it had any sort of exclusivity, it should have been noted there.
I have two of this set! (the second one was donated by a classmate who didnt want his lego anymore).
Its an awesome set.
I wish we got more regular lorries like this. (the Removalist Truck GWP is another example)
So I only recently learned about LEGO forklifts, and they have a spring in them! Okay, well, this one looks like it has a rubber band, but still, I wonder how much air a palette could catch if you were to launch it.
To my knowledge we’ve never had a RMotD from what has also been picked as RSotD but oh man today gets close. If today’s minifig snuck into the cast of this set I’m not sure anyone would notice
Love this set. I made a few variations including this one:

I also did an aircraft loader with the scissor lift for the box and a platform above the half cab. Didn’t get that onto ideas though.
Wholesome set
For a moment I thought this was the 2008 cargo truck. It certainly looks similar. I also don't remember this one. Could it have been exclusive to certain stores, or was it just my memory that's lacking?
Cargo beep beep, not truck.

I was wondering about that earlier, after remembering that the rubber band meant that the forks only stayed in the lowered position if you kept pressure on them.

They've never happened on the same day, but many a set that has been chosen as RSotD later had one of the minifigs therein later chosen as RMotD, or the other way around.

As @PurpleDave noted, if the set was more limited than general retail, it would be noted on the set page.

Ah, yeah, I did mean on the same day. I remember recently we had that recycling guy who’s set had only popped up a month or so before he did. Don’t think we’ve ever had a same day crossover though

That is great that you display with your club! I can't imagine sorting after the display. I just take pictures for my nieces and nephews.
I find comedy in the juxtaposition or association of characters together. 71024-6 Scrooge and 40410-1 Scrooge arguing outside the 10251 Brick Bank. 21108 Ghostbusters chasing down the 75904 Black Knight ghost. 71023-18 Scarecrow being sent to 10937 Arkham Asylum on a mistaken identity case. 71017-3 Fairy Batman getting dance lessons in 10255 Assembly Square with 71033 Rowlf the Dog on Piano.
So sets like this one focus more on the fun comedy of the picture.
(These jokes don't make sense without the set numbers).
@markisnot:
About 20 shows a year (I usually do around 12-15), with our last two setups for the year taking place tomorrow and Tuesday next week.
Also, I didn’t have to check a single one of those set numbers. I’ve got characters like Beetlejuice and Moaning Myrtle packed with the Ghostbusters.

This was such an awesome set when I was a kid. So much potential for building stuff to stick inside the truck. (mostly armories lol)
Lego should bring back cargo trucks, those sets were absolutely peak fiction.
