Random set of the day: Jet Scooter
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 7303 Jet Scooter, released during 2001. It's one of 24 Space sets produced that year. It contains 24 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 649 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $19.90, or eBay.

You guys were mean last time. Give Life on Mars a chance. It's great.
I have a nostalgic soft spot for this set and LoM in general. It was available during the first year or two after I had left my Dark Age behind for good. At the time, I was disappointed that a more direct successor to Classic Space wasn’t around, but I’ve come to appreciate the sets from this theme more now that it’s as old as Classic Space was then. Whoah! That realization just blew my mind!
It's no Blacktron, but Huwbot still manages to be somewhat thematic.
Fun fact: in LEGO Battles, there's a deceased Blacktron Future Generation astronaut on Mars in its Mars Mission campaign. It's the wrong generation of Blacktron and the wrong Mars theme, but at least Huwbot knows what's relevant today.
And yes, Life on Mars is a gem that always deserves more love. I finally got one of my white whales 7317 last year and I absolutely adore it. This Jet Scooter might not look like much, but it still carries the same DNA of friendly Martians living life with their cool sand-colored spacecraft.
Vroom vroom
Just 1416, 7314, 7317 & 7301 left from this theme, although most of the sets on the list are just repackaged versions of another.
I found one of the alien figures in a random box of lego once and I had absolutely no clue what I was looking at. I'm pretty sure the orange battle droid torsos didn't even appear anywhere outside of the theme.

Wait, do you mean "last time" a week ago, or "last time" six years ago? Regardless, threats of floral molestation aside, calling out impending attempts to violate the laws of physics isn't mean. Mean is submitting video proof to America's Funniest Home Videos.
Anyways, on a topical note, I used Arcturus' torso to make a Santa STAP. STanPta? One of these days I need to make some in traditional colors.
@Somestalgia:
Closest orange comes to being released outside of the LoM theme is an alarm clock...that's LoM-themed. But it's classified as gear, which means it's not technically a LoM set.
I love Life on Mars to bits, though mainly just the Martians themselves rather than the fairly average human builds. It’s got possibly my favourite minifigure ever in Cassiopeia, along with all those lovely sand colours and mechs.
These tiny sets are giving me a lot of trouble though. I’ve got all the main Martian sets, but this one alongside Double Hover and Worker Robot are proving basically impossible to find anywhere. I must’ve been searching for two years at least and I still haven’t found a single copy of any of them in this country. It seems likely to me that they weren’t actually released over here? I might just part them out at this point, even if I would prefer them to at least have the instructions
I always adored the aliens from this theme. Still haven't managed to get many of them though
QUICK LORE!!!
Astronauts go to Mars!
They meet friendly aliens with mech suits and tube systems!
QUICK LORE!
I kind of like how this looks like some sort of maintenance vehicle for 7313 and it's matching docking bay.
Also that light grey M:Tron tool holder is pretty neat^^ Funny though, how it has Riegel's umm whatever it is on it (that tile is also rather rare, as are Riegel's black legs).
This is also my only version on Antares I have. I wonder why all these impulse sets had at least one orange figure part in them...
What is it with polybags(/boxed equivalents) and mismatched/nonstandard minifigs...
Looks like it and the Mono-Jet from a week ago are about to charge into each other!
Scooter! Respect to the Man in the Ice Cream Van!

I'm here for it. LoM was great! Bring back sand purple.
Can't wait till we deport Elon and Melania there.
I like this little build. I think it’s sitting in my Martian garage MOC with half its components removed for maintenance.

Have been wondering this myself a long time.
It often feels like you only got the "demo version" of the minifig - but probably this is exactly the point. If you liked it, TLG wants you to buy the "real thing" as well.
Castle was especially "plagued" by this, with cloth capes and plumes missing. But hey, at least it makes the figures from big sets feel a bit more special.

I can confirm it's great.
I can nerver get used to these alien minifigures. Scooter, although simplistic, gave me some ideas. I'll keep parts of the build in mind.

I can't. I don't have any.
Life on Mars is great and this is one of the best polybags of the theme. It looks great and quite complete. And those SW blaster parts in Sand Blue areotherwise only available in rare and way bigger sets.

Chances are, the Aliens from Mars Mission drove the native Martians to extinction.
(Both LOM and MM had an energy crystal story going on)
Terrible

Am I right in thinking you're in the UK too? I can confirm that they were released over here; today's set was my only Life on Mars set for a long time, and I think I remember getting one of the others as a birthday gift for a friend around the same time. I know I bought them from Woolworths, although I don't know if they were sold in any other shops at the time... that was the only place I remember seeing them. If they were exclusive to that chain over here, that might explain them being harder to find now.
Have to say that I also absolutely 100% agree with you on this theme; it may not be 'classic', but it was my childhood Space theme and I loved it just as much, I'm sure, as older AFOLs love Blacktron. The Martian figures were perfect to me as a kid, and I still have a massive soft spot for them, and especially for Antares here.
Even this set, simple as it is, was an absolute childhood favourite of mine. This little guy is currently zooming around my Aero Tube Hangar that I got second-hand a coupe of years ago; I feel like the addition of the little sets like this really makes the scene feel more alive, and I love it ^^

It depends on you. I've bricklinked all of them, and occasionally, you can find the instructions as well. Alltogether, the parts shouldn't be expensive.

If that's true, it's probably among the darkest stories in a Lego IP...
Would make sense though, if we assume all those themes are truely set in the same universe.
Btw I really liked that LoM "crystal" piece. Those were called "Biodium".
Sand colors! What I wouldn't give for sand red to make a comeback... though sand purple is cool too.
Coming in after the Blacktron announcement makes me want Lego to remake of some LOM sets. This was my childhood space theme.

Sounds like they needed protection, should have built more of 7313. Actually, I think there was some connection between the two themes, but not quite that dark of one.
A blast from the past!
The best design of the starter-sized LoM set (and of the bonus part it shares with them). Not that that makes it a GREAT set, but it's a pretty decent little set.
