City brand truck. City is a manufactuerer in LEGO City. That's gotta be a little weird.

The very tail end, evidently. They're just about done cleaning up the rubble.

Yeah, but that was the 90s. I mean, come on. At least these sets here weren't over-saturated designs like in the 90s, and are somewhat modern in design, compared to the juniorised 90s Town sets. Clearly though, nobody agrees with me.

By in Canada,

Don't have it...which is 'odd', as I have 4432: Garbage Truck, 4431: Ambulance, and even 4435: Car and Caravan (and that's just the land vehicles of the year:))...I guess it's just a case of not going after construction sets...which is an irony in and of itself. :D

By in Finland,

Pretty great little dump truck. This is firmly on my wanted list but I don't have a copy yet. Better head to Bricklink!

By in United States,

Oh I am always here for the Great Vehicles.

By in Australia,

I didn't buy this when it was released, but I tracked down a copy some years later, and I remember absolutely loving it. It's a brilliant set. Great to play with, and it looks beautiful.

It was the tail end of City's golden era. The vehicles from the early 2010s were dynamite.

By in Croatia,

It would be perfect if is 8-wide!

By in United Kingdom,

...but how do you get things from the wheelbarrow into the dump truck?

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

Nice design. It has been more than a decade since this came out but you can still blend it in with current sets.

Indeed.
Unfortunately I had just emerged from my dark ages a short while before back then (thanks to our daughter getting old enough for Duplo), but City wasn't in the focus at the time (see above).
I'm still in the process of tracking down many of the great sets that were released around that time. Compared to most of what we get these days, those old offerings were absolute gold.
This truck in particular is awesome. Looks highly realistic (and it even has doors).

By in Netherlands,

One of the first Great Vehicles. And great they were! More realistic and focussed on the subject matter than ever before. I never got any (I'm not a City guy), but that ambulance from this wave is one of my favourites. This set introduced a new panel type for the bucket at the back.

The 90s were 30 years ago. How is that ‘now’?

If you ask me, we’ve probably been in City’s Golden era since 2022 or so, whenever it was when they stopped overusing the police.

Similar to the truck in the mine 4204 which had a great way of loading the round bricks.

7998 was pretty cool.

By in United Kingdom,

Just ordered another off Vinted. Will go well with my recent construction modulars based around 60409, 60401, 60420 which are equally excellent.

Or, at the very least, somebody's getting kickbacks.

I added a second front axel and moved the rear wheels one stud back in keeping with European style dump trucks.

Actually, it introduced two panels, one of which is sadly no longer around.

One of the SOTD I actually have! I picked this up off eBay when I was establishing my town set up as part of a used job lot; its still a fixture of the town now, still looks good!

Gravatar
By in United States,

It’s pretty weird that city makes automobiles too. No wonder they only make 100 bills.

What the actual heck are you talking about? Two axles under the cab?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Really nice truck for its age. Although I would probably leave the City sticker off if I was building it today

I think they call that "Twin Steer". Supposedly, it's to give extra turning radius as I understand. It seems to show up in the US on larger semi-based dump trucks, cement mixers, and especially tow trucks.

Some European trucks even have three steer axles (two in the front, and the front rear axle as well).

This Scania 8-legger is basically a real life version of @GothamConstructionCo ‘s mod of today’s Random Set and what we’re talking about here.
