By in New Zealand,

Tournament of elements is one of the best Ninjago seasons, and it had some of the best sets in the theme too.

Welcome to Ninjago, where we have...

The only 4 established tribes of snakes (the later tribes were "somewhere else" I guess)
Purple snakes
Time-travel snakes
One specific pirate snake
One specific bleached snake
Fire snakes
Underwater snakes
CORE snakes (whatever the heck those are)

Basically it's a whole lot of snakes and not a lot of creativity

So you're saying movie franchises with only humans as villains aren't being creative?

I'm waiting for the Skeletal Snakes to show up. Yes, these guys have a bone aesthetic going on, but it's just guys with Snake skulls. I'm waiting for Ninjago to go to space, and out there is this Cosmic Four Armed Skeletal Snake that's like the precursor to the Great Devourer or something like that.

@MCLegoboy:
These are just humans dual-classing their snake cosplay with their skeleton cosplay. And some punk/goth makeup.

I generally like whatever rogue's gallery the Ninjago heroes have to fight *this* year, but I agree, they do tend to go back to the "evil snakes" well quite often.

It's been a few years since the CORE snakes (those were the orange ones, weren't they?). I imagine we're overdue.

The OG Skylor fig set! Wonder if the Dragons Rising team is planning on bringing her back anytime soon.

“What will our aesthetic be?”

“Purple and bones.”

“Rad!”

Funny you should say that... In the episode 'Project Arcturus', the ninja *do* go to space to try to stop the nindroids retrieve the Golden Weapons.
But that's not all...
Project Arcturus was originally meant to set up for season 4, which was originally going to be a space season. I'm not sure why they scrapped it, but they ran with ToE instead, and I'm so happy they did.

By in Netherlands,

For as far as Tournament of Elements sets go, this is one of my least favourites. 'Ancient temple' and 'helicopter-plane' don't mix all that well IMHO. At least it has three good minifigs including the original and only Skylor for quite a while. But other than that I'd rather have seen more of the actual tournament, which only had one set that was not even sold in my country.
Last year's sets at least had more tournament-focus with an entire modular system for the smaller sub-assemblies.

1: there were 5 tribes from the start. The 5th just had one survivor because he ate his brethren when they were entombed (yes, this is Pythor's backstory). So the purple snakes are part of the main tribes.

2. The bleached snake is also just Pythor, who is one of the purple snakes.

3. The pirate snake is a hybrid from two of the main tribes (at least the green Venomari).

I know at least on Bricksetter who'd definitely agree that that was a great aesthetic, at least as far as the purple went.

You're... *happy* that a space season and line got scrapped? I've never been so tempted to block someone... j/k

I like Classic Space and its children... I just don't think Ninja and Space mix well ;)

Look at it this way: it might have set a precedent and anything space-adjacent might have been lumped in with Ninjago.

By in Canada,

All this 'snake talk'...and nobodies brought up 'clown snakes'...although I guess we're too late for a Ninjago/Batman crossover :)

Should be noted: I have the set, as it's the "First" set with Skylor...I use quotes as looking up Skylor-sets lists 70651: Throne Room Showdown set with her first...even though it came out AFTER this set...:)

On the contrary, ninja pair with robots, and robots always mix with space.

@brick_r:
I mean, I _made_ snake-clowns several years ago. Does that count?
