Random set of the day: Red Four Wheel Driver
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 1273 Red Four Wheel Driver, released during 2000. It's one of 45 Town sets produced that year. It contains 20 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 361 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $7.00, or eBay.

Yeehaw!
I guess Huwbot's on a bit of a racing kick.
thats a new one, the driver having the wheels instead of the car
huh
That's so dumb it's cool.
"All wings check in." "Red Four Wheel Driver standing by."
Having collected all six of the major retail Race sets, I keep feeling like I want to get this and the three other small box/polybag sets to have absolutely everything but it's so hard to care. The only one that's particularly interesting is 1285 because it was a Kabaya exclusive and is the only Race set that isn't some kind of car.
This looks like the "after" photo of some stupid Youtube stunt video.
"How many set numbers do you need?"
"Yes."
No way that thing has a big enough engine to make it go that fast
Race was one of the best subthemes of Town. This year is special for me because it was featured in Lego Stunt Rally which I played a lot as a kid.
I later collected 4 of the 6 retail sets from this lineup. I wish I could collect them all but finances don't allow me to. At least I got all 4 of the characters that were playable in that game.
It feels a bit like an all-terrain go-kart or a B-Model of another car. Not that it's bad, just an unusual setup.
Has anybody ever authored a bricklist of vehicles under about 30 parts with 2 axles and 2x6 plate? Starting with 886 there must have been dozens.

And, honestly, minifig aside, you could probably build that from pieces in your spares bin.
The title of this set sounds like the description of a minifig.

I’m just going to point out that a minifig skateboard is approximately 2x4 with two axles, and leave it at that.
@Zordboy:
No, while I can’t prevent someone from breaking into my home and doing that with my collection, I couldn’t possibly bring myself to do it. Not voluntarily, at least. Maybe with a gun to my head. I’d have to take some time to weigh the choices first.

I actually couldn't, since I don't have the yellow wedge plate or 1x4 slope brick that are about 50% of the thing.
You never know what you're just not gonna have until you start lookin'.
Red? check
four wheel? check
driver? check
Most accurate set description ever :D
The four wheels are not red, they are yellow. SMH
All you need are two airtanks for driver and front bumper, and this would make a far cooler space vehicle with those balloon tires.
That's a doohickey
@TransNeonOrangeSpaceman: I'm thinking someone went to the Optometrist that day: "Read the first line...""6..6..1..9.." :)
Also: Would the...design (yeah, let's go with that:)) not be improved if the slope brick at the back around to the front, and everything else there was move back...just me? :D
Two racers in one day?
Lore time...? For what little lore there is, I suppose...
This guy was called Wrench. His racing logo was the scorpion, which I hadn't thought anything of before but now wonder if that gives him some association with Vladek, the villain of Knights' Kingdom II, who also used a scorpion motif; although despite that similarity, Wrench was one of the protagonist racers of the Stunt Rally world.
Apparently his regular helmet with the ice-planet-style visor in solid red was just too cool for such a tiny set so he got a regular visor here instead (Chip and Lucky also got downgraded helmets for their sets of this size too). I'm fairly sure these tiny 'cars' were non-canon; Wrench's main vehicle in the game and in comics was the 6602-2 Scorpion Buggy instead, and of the (admittedly pretty minimal) Stunt Rally media I've seen, none of these tiniest sets got featured.
Um... personality? I don't honestly remember if it was ever fully defined beyond the Adventures Magazine comics characterising him as The Tough Guy. Out of the protagonist racers to be featured in Adventures, he was the only one who never actually got to win a race in the comics: Lucky won in the first issue to feature Stunt Rally, Barney won in the second, and Chip was simply not present at all; meanwhile Wrench was present for both comics and both times was taken out of the race early by the tricks of the villain racers (who were in the game but never got physical minifigures).
Um. That's about all I've got...?

No, no, see, his name is Red "Four Wheel" Driver. I mean, his friends weren't very imaginative when it came to giving him a nickname, but what are you going to do?

I watched the New Hope last night, thought of this then lol
Ahh 2000, that explains the "'$%^ it, lets just take a steering wheel, a 2x6, a couple of bits behind the driver, and put four big tires on it and call it a '4 wheeler" mindset.
