So you're saying it's less garbage truck, more recycled truck?
Bot’s on a vehicle binge this week
Gollum's fish... just sayin'
And someone's trashed a perfectly good banana.

The machine uprising must be imminent, and it’s sided with the smart cars.

I don't buy used lots. Ever. But I did buy this set at retail for parts, for some reason. Pretty sure getting the green radar dish for my Green Army Man Army is the reason I bought 3179, so no idea what I got this one for.
Ugh, just seems like they're recycling the same old garbage.
Love the comments about Gollum--I actually had this one on display with Gollum pulling that fish out of the trash!
Got this set...and two other Garbage Trucks, the afore mentioned "Trash Chomper" (Ah, Lego Movie you were just soooo much than your forbearer/follow-up), and the Junior/4+ one...that is more of an orange 'dump truck'...weird:|
But then again; I always thought it weird, especially at the time, that a year latter folk would go nuts for the 'first female scientist in minifig form' (she wasn't, that was debunked) and here we have a lady sanitation worker, something I'd believe even more rare than the 'accolade' "they" were trying claim...makes ya' think at times:)
This is sorted in my parts collection, but it was a cool set! It was kind of revolutionary back then because they hadn't really used bright green this predominantly in a regular set.
My biggest irritation is the fact that the container floor is studded; it desperately needed tiles so that the trash could be dumped out easily.
Nice referencing with the license plate
In the olden days of 6693 they could get in and out of the cab
One of the original Great Vehicles. Nice. An improvement upon the orange one from 2007.
Awesome set, can’t believe it was released so long ago now. We have two copies! Shame that 60386 didn’t really move the game on.
Clever use of the airplane tail-fin, and I see from the photos that the side bar is for the 2nd operator to hold onto as cabin is too small for two.

Now that I don't buy new LEGO sets anymore I have started to track down sets I missed, either from my childhood or from the first few years after I emerged from my dark ages. I typically buy used sets and did so with this one too. I try to finds lots where the sets appear to be in as close to as new condition as possible, and this one definitely was as good as new. Only the two license plate stickers were applied a little crooked, but that doesn't bother me. At least it was complete, the pieces and minifigs were like new, and the price was lower than the original RRP, so a win-win situation for me.

Like you and @AustinPowers, I don't buy used lots, unless you count the bucket of random parts (and a few non'Lego small buts) I bought at a Goodwill that one time. If I buy used Lego, it's in the form of a complete set, again excepting a Goodwill purchase: a mostly-complete 70144.

Agreed. I miss when LEGO sets used the set number for things like that. They stopped that quite a few years ago.
@TheOtherMike: you may have misunderstood my comment. I tried to say that contrary to @PurpleDave I do buy used lots these days. I only try to find ones in very good condition, preferably in as new condition, but definitely not new or MISB because the surcharge you typically have to pay for such sets is just not worth it imho.

No, I understood you, I just wasn't thinking when I commented, or misremembered, despite having just read the comment.

Now that you've mentioned it: we have got black sausage pieces from Lego, maybe it's time for dark brown bananas?
I just realized that I have never seen a woman working as a trash collector in my city.
2012 city sets were really peak
As much as I love space, City vehicles like this one and others from the Great Vehicles theme really hit the sweet spot for me.
The airplane tails and curved slopes to give the truck a rounded appearance are great details.
Back then, the LEGO Club magazine would include instructions to combine sets and there was one that combined two Great Vehicles sets. An orange one and a yellow one if I recall. It was over a decade ago so I forget which two.
