Cloth pieces in a Creator 3-in-1 set are a pretty rare sight

By in United States,

I remember this (and the green one) feeling like it was such an amazing dragon design, but now all I see is triangular sailcloths.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

whoa, never seen this one before

mid to late 2000s creator was such a vibe man

By in United States,

This is definitely not Gandalf’s flying firework over The Shire (tm).

By in New Zealand,

Very good for its time but dragon sets have evolved so much since then. just look at 31161.

By in United States,

My, but whoever named this set thought highly of it.

This set name is so metal, I love it. More set names in the vein of FIERY LEGEND, please!

For example, Majestic Tiger is a pretty good name. But what if it were FLAME-HUED NOCTURNAL MANEATER? I feel it would sell even better.

Pretty sure this one is supposed to be hidden, and the other one crouching.

Same color scheme, I like 31073 better.

Smaug? Is that you?

I was coming here to say the exact same thing! It's cool.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I see neither of it's alt build manage to incorporate the cloth wings, that's kind of a shame. Could at least have been some sort of battle standard raised from the back of the ogre

Gravatar
By in United States,

The promotional image is a hot mess.

How to those wings look good and bad at the same time? The cloth is cool, but the shape is… something.

By in Netherlands,

I have this one. Unfortunately brittle dark red is real, especially on ths set because of the color scheme.

It's a cool one though. Just put it standing in a Bowser-esque pose.

Still, 4894 Mythical Creatures is superior. Better alt builds (the cloth is actally used as a troll's onesie), more variety, and the man build is more threatenig and better proportioned (this one's head is almost as big as its torso). Those triangular cheeks aren't great either. The stance on that one maks it feel bigger, whlst thi doesn't look great out of the aforementioned pose.

That said, it's a cool model. The alts are decent as well, although not great. I just fear to rebuild it right now.

I built this one recently, having bought it on eBay a few years ago and can agree about the brittle dark red!

Weirdly, I also had trouble with the yellow horn pieces, of both sizes; they're now almost all held back together with careful application of Kragle.

Persisted with the build though because it is, indeed, cool and very metal.

AKA The poor man's Smaug.

By in United States,

For being a legend, it doesn't look like it's very legendary. No ratings, no video reviews, people making fun of it here, Fiery Flop is more like it.

By in United Kingdom,

I have 31102 and I like the brick ball joints in these sets as very posable (see dragon man alternative build), rather than the small arm ball joints in 31032 , although the cut out circular blue plate wings in 31102 don't look that great. Glad they have improved on this in the latest 31161 dragon, waiting for review?

IMO the best time of Lego, best City, Creator, Technic, Star Wars, original themes (like Agents, Mars Mission, Aqua Raiders, etc.) and first Modular Buildings...

I would love to see an ICONS lego Smaug diorama

Tell me about it. My Maz Kanata minifig's toe recently snapped off. I was hoping to get a replacement from LEGO's broken pieces service, but they didn't have that color as an option last time I checked. They've been using that color legs on a lot of Rocket Raccoon figs lately, so hopefully it gets put on there soon.

@ambr: I have 31032, and it's one of my favorite Creator sets I own. Still have to build the alternate models though, lol.

I agree. I have 4894, but not this one.
6751 2009 $39.99 479pieces - Fiery Legend / dark red dragon
4894 2006 $29.99 588pieces - Mythical Creatures / green dragon

I didn't think 6751 had a light brick but it does. They both do. Anyway, I also think the green one is superior. Piece to price ratio is better, the dark red bricks are really brittle (I don't have that 6751, but I have the problem with other dark red pieces) and the alt builds are better (particularly like the hammer and mace wielding dragon and the 3-headed dragon)

That would be sick. I would love a whole line of Lord of the Rings / Hobbit dioramas; there's a ton of possibilities.

Sounds like it just has one weak point to me. Only this time, it’s roughly the same size and shape as the dragon.

By in United States,

Are those wings sails?

*goes to Bricklink*

Huh, yeah, basically.

I've gotta assume ship-builders were on board with buying dragons then.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

My favorite is still 31032.
One of my first Creator 3 in 1 sets and I love everything about it.
For 15 Euro RRP (I think I got it for 10) it was a bargain too.

..and yet 1010 members of this site say they want it, so not so much a flop.
