Random set of the day: ARC-170 Starfighter
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 75072 ARC-170 Starfighter, released during 2015. It's one of 69 Star Wars sets produced that year. It contains 95 pieces and 1 minifig, and its retail price was US$9.99/£8.99.
It's owned by 9,777 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $33.50, or eBay.

So far, I own all the Microfighters to be RSotD. Wonder how long that will keep up.
Fantastic ship to turn into a Microfighter. It translated so well with all the long bits being shortened, it already had fat engines, and it still kept the functionality of the triple wings.
But enough about that!
Visions Volume 3 is coming on October 29th with sequels for The Duel, The Village Bride, and The Ninth Jedi.
And then in 2026, The Ninth Jedi is getting its own spin-off series.

I will forever be disappointed I never got more of the early microfighters
but this one, heck yeah. so cool ;-;
I also loved the fact they came in pairs, so fun to collect the other one- or not, and fork out over 3x the price for it many years down the line...
Pretty sure this one's called the ARC-1.70.
I have all of the Microfighters from Series 2 except for this one and the Vulture Droid. Kinda sad I missed out on this one — it's a cool ship with an even cooler minifigure.
Wow, this micro fighter and new ARC-170 out this year are just about the same size…
I've been collecting the microfighter range on eBay and Bricklink lately, and I'm glad, because I never bought the earlier ones when they were available ... but they're frickin' adorable, and I like them a lot.
Was never entirely sure why the clones piloting these fighters get the big face revealing helmets that I’d assume are for vision when they’re in a compact metal box with fairly limited visuals of their three dimensional battleground
Looks like the new one. All SW sets are now either display or microfighter. Sad.
It was and still is so adorable. This was a perfectly done microfighter! It even retains the 3-cockpit windows!
In ten years time they can sell this again as the new System set for $50.

I had no idea there was even a second volume of Visions! I'd been thinking of rewatching it anyway, that thought just became definite.

I wish a much larger percentage of the line consisted of Microfighters. Lego, at the very least, give us a Jango Fett's Slave I/Starship/Firespray (whatever you want to call it) Microfighter!
I don't like the front of this. Maybe its the studs.

But no gritty R-rated Vader film with a 2-hour hallway scene? :(
I've been recently trying to build some of the microfighters like this one in Stud.io, and doing so as far as I can without using the instructions. I never owned any of them myself, so there's no memory involved here; I'm working entirely from what I can deduce just from the combination of the part inventory and Brickset's pictures. They're just about the right level of challenge for me: small enough that the piece selection is manageable, but still with enough substance that I can't see everything from the main picture and have to figure some parts out for myself.
So far I've done all the prequel ones and only just started on those from the OT. With some of them I have actually succeeded in getting the build almost completely right, but the ARC here wasn't one of them: I had to check the instructions in the end because I couldn't quite figure out how the back should go together. Still, it's a fun little exercise, just doing one at a time every now and then ^^
Is this at all connected with Advance Recon Commando troopers, or is the name a coincidence?
The figure is quite good, but I'm not too fond of this MicroFighter. It's nice that it has exclusive printed parts but the exhausts of the engines do not line up properly.

Aggressive ReConnaissance-170, so commonality in that both involve Clone Troopers and reconnaissance. But these are crewed by Clone pilots, while ARC Troopers are more likely to be ferried around in troop transports.

It will For as long as I live for me. I own them all and will continue to buy them all. They are a fun range of sets.

That's awesome! Which one's your favorite?
I'm missing a few of these. Most notably, I never got the exclusive tin sets that were released at events like SDCC and SWC (offhand, I know they did Boba Fett's Slave I, Luke's Landspeeder, and Darth Maul's Sith Interceptor this way). I also pointedly skipped any sequel sets. No regrets there, but it's still irritating that they did _three_ tin sets. If there'd only been one, I might have been able to justify springing for it.
